, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Gandomkar, Amir Reza (Author) ; Saeedi, Mohammad Hassan (Supervisor) ; Shafii, Mohammad Behshad ($item.subfieldsMap.e)
    Abstract
Pulsating heat pipe (PHP) is a two-phase device for the means of transferring high heat fluxes and is used extensively for the electronic cooling. In this study the different flow regimes in PHP with different fluids have been investigated. In this research, 3 different fluids including: Pure fluids, Ferro-fluid and surfactant solution with %50 filling ratio have been used. For ferro-fluid, 5 different concentrations and 3 type of magnetic fields have been operated in 2 different heat pipes. Results show that ferrofluid is more stable in Pyrex made-heat pipe for long period of time and no magnet mode has the best thermal performance due to high conductivity of fluid. In copper made-heat pipe...

Design and Fabrication of a Novel Mercury Micropump Actuated Electeromagneticaly

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Karmozdi, Mohsen (Author) ; Shafii, Mohammad Behshad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Considering the advantages and disadvantages of reported micropumps, we aimed to introduce a novel idea to diminish the disadvantages and promote the advantages of PiezoElectric micropumps. This novel idea operates based on a mercury slug actuation in a microchannel. This cyclic motion of the mercury slug which is similar to a piston, push the fluid in the microchannel and pump the flow. However, to bring this idea into the practice, a control system must be designed. This system contains: LABVIEW code, DAQ board & a switching Board. The pattern of actuating mercury is drawn in LABVIEW. DAQ Board produces electrical signals according to LABVIEW code. Switching board will transform the...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Poureslami, Parham (Author) ; Shafii, Mohammad Behshad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Encompassing an interaction between the phase change material (PCM) and the droplets of a heat transfer fluid, the direct contact (DC) method provides a state-of-the-art solution for the meager melting and solidification rates of PCMs. In the DC procedure, when impinging on the molten PCM pool, droplets evaporate, solidifying the portion of the PCM. For the first time, the impact of single and simultaneous double ethanol droplets, having an average diameter of 2.68 mm, on the molten paraffin wax has been scrutinized exhaustively. Experiments have been carried out through high-speed imaging for various Weber numbers ranging from 179 to 464, pool temperatures from 70 to 95°C, and horizontal...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mirnia Kolaee, Mohammad (Author) ; Shafii, Mohammad Behshad (Supervisor) ; Hajilouy Benisi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Increasing fossil fuel consumption has led to serious problems in energy supply and environmental issues such as global warming, air pollution, ozone depletion, and security issues. A strategy to improve energy consumption requires recycling wasted energy and preventing it from being released into the environment. A wide range of available heat sources such as heat dissipation in the transportation industry, solar heat, biomass and geothermal have low-temperature, which contain large amounts of energy but they do not have enough temperature to make them economically viable and cost-effective. Several applied technologies have been proposed to utilize these resources, among which the organic...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Merdasi, Arshia (Author) ; Moosavi, Ali (Supervisor) ; Shafii, Mohammad Behshad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this research, two important mechanisms were discussed including droplet generation and jumping mechanisms using electro wetting-on-dielectric. For these purposes, the finite element method (FEM) was used to solve the unsteady Naiver-Stokes equation. In addition, the level set method was applied to capture the interface between two phases. In the current study, first, droplet generation in a T-junction fluidic channel device was studied through using electro wetting actuation. The efficacy of electro wetting on the droplet generation frequency as well as droplet diameter is visible in a T-junction fluidic channel since after applying voltages, specified with non-dimensional electro...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Moradi, Sepehr (Author) ; Shafii, Mohammad Behshad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Heat sources with temperatures less than 100 °C are available in various processes in the form of waste heat and from renewable sources such as solar energy. One of the methods of gaining benefit from these ubiquitous and abundant heat sources is using thermal harvesters that convert low-temperature heat into electrical energy without the need for the power grid. Portable harvesters can be a reliable and low-cost option for providing stable energy for low-power electronic devices such as wireless sensors. Many studies have been conducted at the global level to design and develop efficient low-temperature heat harvesting mechanisms. However, each of them is associated with fundamental...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohammad Rashidi, Mahbod (Author) ; Shafii, Mohammad Behshad (Supervisor) ; Taghipoor, Mojtaba (Supervisor) ; Bijarchi, Mohamad Ali (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
Liquid marbles are droplets enwrapped by a layer of micro/nanoparticles. Due to the insulation of inner fluid from the environment, the lower evaporation rate of the fluid, and the capability of motion even on hydrophilic surfaces, these liquid marbles, as an alternative to conventional droplets, have attracted the attention of researchers in digital microfluidics. Utilizing ferrofluid as the liquid core of the liquid marbles enables remote control over the liquid marbles by an external magnetic field. In this research, the dynamic behavior of ferrofluid liquid marbles under the magnetic field generated by an electromagnet is investigated. In this research, governing physics on the motion of...

It can be a suitable solution to solve drinking water problem....

An Experimental Investigation of Liquid Droplet Impingement on a Molten Phase Change Material as a Direct-Contact Solidification Method

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Faghiri, Shahin (Author) ; Shafii, Mohammad Behshad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Improving the discharge process of phase-change materials (PCMs) is of great importance. In this study, the process of acetone drop impact on molten paraffin, as a direct-contact solidification method, is experimentally investigated. Four Weber numbers (corresponding to heights of 10, 20, 30, and 40 cm) for the acetone drop and six surface temperatures (66, 68, 70, 75, 80, and 90 °C) for the molten paraffin are considered. As the acetone drop impacts the molten paraffin, the drop absorbs heat from the melting paraffin and boils, solidifying a portion of the molten paraffin. Two important parameters that govern the acetone drop dynamics and the solidification of the molten paraffin are the...

Simulation of Residual Oil Displacement at the Pore-scale

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Farrokhnia Hamedani, Bahareh (Author) ; Moosavi, Ali (Supervisor) ; Shafii, Mohammad Behshad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
EOR (oil enhanced recovery) is very important as oil is a nonrenewable resource. Depending on the characteristics of the rock formation, primary production can result in the recovery of up to 20% of the oil originally in the rock. This means that at least 80% of the oil may remain in the rock unless additional technology is used to increase the recovery. Before finding best way to do for EOR, scientists must study properties of different porous media that oil is trapped between its grains. Most of research and studies investigate networks of porous media but this work focused on oil movement through a pore space in porous media lonely not in network by waterflooding. Studying a pore space is...
