    Abstract
With the rapid development of biotechnology, peptide and protein drugs are now playing an increasingly important role in therapeutics. Compared with chemical drugs, peptide and protein drugs have some limitations such as low stability and rapid deactivation. Biodegradable and biocompatible polymeric micro carriers have been shown to have a high potential for the delivery of peptides and proteins. Among these polymers, alginate has been widely investigated as a biomaterial. Alginates are natural polysaccharide polymers isolated from brown seaweed. Bovine serum albumin (BSA) loaded calcium alginate microspheres produced in this study by a modified w/o emulsification method. The influence of...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mehmanchi, Mohammad (Author) ; Bagheri, Reza (Supervisor) ; Shokrollahi, Parvin (Supervisor) ; Ataei, Mohammad (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Synthetic polymers have a high capacity to provide and manufacture the pieces used in tissue engineering. However, optimizing the biocompatibility, bioresorbableility and mechanical properties simultaneous with processability of material is complicated and requires a lot of effort at designing different parts of the system. On the other hand, due to existence of secondary bonds (such as metal-ligand coordination or hydrogen bond) supramolecular polymers are able to respond to some stimuli such as temperature, pH, or pressure, which is important in terms of dynamic nature of interaction between the living cells and the external matrix of cell. Recently there have been extensive studies on...

Experimental Investigation and Theoretical Modelling of Swelling and Solution of Coated Polyacrylamide Particle in Porous Media

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ashrafizadeh, Marjan (Author) ; Ramazani Saadatabadi, Ahmad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The main purpose of this study is simulation of in-situ release of nano-size coated polymer particles at the water-oil interface during the polymer flooding. Reaching at the flooding interface, the hydrophobic coating starts dissolving into the oil phase. Subsequently, the hydrophilic core polymer starts diffusing back and simultaneously solves into the water phase and increase the in-situ viscosity of the flooding interface. Because of the in-situ release of the polymer and consequently the viscosity reduction of the injected fluid, the driving force for injection of the polymer as well as the amount of polymer used in flooding will reduce. In addition, smart coating can decrease the...

Modeling of Yield Behavior of Rubber Modified Epoxies

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Abbasi, Mohammad (Author) ; Kuchakzadeh, Mohammad Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Because of increasing usage of modified polymers and consequent necessity for investigation and modeling of mechanical behavior of these materials, it is important to get a yield criterion for these materials. For this purpose the Gurson yield criterion presented for porous metals, was modified with regard to mechanical properties of polymers. Indeed pressure sensitivity of polymers and their large elastic strain during deformation, makes using of Gurson yield criterion problematic for modified polymers.
For modification of Gurson criterion, macroscopic hydrostatic yield stress equation was derived for a thick-walled spherical shell of epoxy and then Gurson criterion was modified with...
