    Abstract
Effect of NaF on crystallization kinetics, microstructure, and mechanical properties of mica glass ceramics were investigated by the differential thermal analysis (DTA), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and microhardness tests. Non-isothermal DTA experiments showed that the crystallization activation energies of base glasses are changed in the range of 235-246 KJ/mol, while the crystallization activation energies of samples with addition of NaF are changed in the range of 263-367 KJ/mol. The increase of crystallization temperature is helpful for the increase of aspect ratio, and the microstructure of the glass ceramics becomes interconnected, which contributes...

    Abstract
A circuit model has been proposed for two-dimensional metallic arrays of metallic square holes located on a homogeneous substrate. Although the proposed circuit model holds true, the surface admittance between the metallic hole array and the cover was erroneously calculated since the presence of the cross-polarization terms had been neglected. Furthermore, there have been mistakes in numerical simulation and in analytical calculations based on the presented formulas. The correct formulation is now given, and erroneous figures are replotted

Enhanced Kerr nonlinearity in a four-level EIT medium

    , Article Journal of Nonlinear Optical Physics and Materials ; Volume 19, Issue 3 , 2010 , Pages 503-515 ; 02188635 (ISSN) Sahrai, M ; Asadpour, S. H ; Sadighi, R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The linear and nonlinear response of a four-level EIT system driven by three coherent fields is investigated. It is found that at appropriate atomic parameters, the Kerr nonlinearity can clearly be enhanced. It is also demonstrated that the maximal Kerr nonlinearity enters the EIT window, and the corresponding linear and nonlinear absorption suppress. Moreover, we show that nonlinear absorption and Kerr nonlinearity can also be changed via relative phase between driving fields

    Abstract
One of the methods introduced for establishing hidden communication is steganography. Steganography is the art of hiding information in a cover media without attracting attention. Text documents are one of the common cover media used for steganography in past. Steganography in text is more difficult than other media because there is a little redundant information in text documents. In this study, we propose a high capacity text steganography method. Our method can hide about 400 bits in each kilobyte of text. In Persian and Arabic, each letter can have four different shapes regarding to its position in the word. In this method this feature of Persian and Arabic languages is used for...

Hot electron generation enhancement by long duration positive chirped laser pulses

    , Article Physica Scripta ; Volume 93, Issue 10 , 2018 ; 00318949 (ISSN) Souri, S ; Sadighi Bonabi, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Interaction of the chirped circularly polarized laser pulse with ramped density plasma is presented by particle-in-cell simulation. The obtained results indicate that the laser penetration depth into the plasma target and hot-electron generation can be improved by chirped induced transparency (CIT). Positive chirped pulses penetrate more deeply in the plasma leading to the hot electron enhancement and improvement of the maximum separation accelerating fields at the rear side of the target. For laser pulse with 150 fs time duration, there is 40% increase in the laser penetration depth in the target and the maximum amount of the electrostatic field is improved by a factor of 5 in the present...

    Abstract
All-solution-processed multilayer ZnO/Ag NWs/ZnO/PVP/PVA composite is introduced as a transparent conductive film (TCF) for optoelectronic applications. Unlike conventional film formation methods that impose high investment expenses, scalable spray coating is applied over the layers using a hand-made spray apparatus. The resulting TCF exhibits high transmittance (T, 86% at 550 nm) and low sheet resistance (Rs, 6 Ω/sq), which is comparable to the sputtered counterparts. The bending test demonstrates the flexibility of the multilayer TCF with no noticeable increase in Rs, even after 1500 bending iterations. Moreover, chemical stability test (exposure to a corrosive agent) and adhesion...

Excitation and propagation of surface polaritonic rogue waves and breathers

    Abstract
Excitation and propagation of the surface polaritonic rogue waves and breathers are investigated by proposing a coupler free optical waveguide that consists of a transparent layer, middle negative index metamaterial layer, and bottom layer of the cold four level atomic medium. In this planar optical waveguide, a giant controllable Kerr nonlinearity is achieved by sufficient field concentration and a proper set of intensities and detunings of the driven laser fields. As a result, various kinds of temporal surface polaritonic solitons, rogue waves, and breathers can be propagated in the narrow window for electromagnetically induced transparency. We find that the giant intensity and extreme...

Stability and Performance Analysis of Human-Machine Interaction in Haptic Systems

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Tajaddodianfar, Farid (Author) ; Ahmadian, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor) ; Vossoughi, Gholamreza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Transparency is a measure of performance in haptic devices. In order to improve transparency and reduce the difference between the impedance transmitted to the user and the target impedance it is necessary to compensate for the dynamics of the haptic device. Due to stability reasons improvement of transparency is limited. Passivity as a stability criterion has been used widely in design and analysis of haptic devices. Since passivity is a conservative criterion, it acts as an obstacle in improving transparency of the haptic interfaces. In this project instead of passivity, robust stability of the interaction is studied in the presence of parametric uncertainties due to variations in user...

    Abstract
The durability of novel metallic artifacts and buildings is an open issue, and the role of smart protecting coatings in extending these artifacts’ lifetimes is crucial. In this paper, the role of γ-Fe2 O3 nanoparticles and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanosheets on enhancing the self-cleaning properties of composite TiO2 films and reducing metal alterations due to contact with acid rain and pollutants is investigated. The photocatalytic assessment of the TiO2 based films indicates that there are optimum contents for γ-Fe2 O3 and rGO, which confer the film lower bandgap and tune the TiO2 anatase/rutile ratio. By adding a proper content of γ-Fe2 O3, wettability is reduced both in dark and...

Electron heating enhancement by frequency-chirped laser pulses

    , Article Journal of Applied Physics ; Vol. 116, issue. 10 , 2014 Yazdani, E ; Sadighi-Bonabi, R ; Afarideh, H ; Riazi, Z ; Hora, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Propagation of a chirped laser pulse with a circular polarization through an uprising plasma density profile is studied by using 1D-3V particle-in-cell simulation. The laser penetration depth is increased in an overdense plasma compared to an unchirped pulse. The induced transparency due to the laser frequency chirp results in an enhanced heating of hot electrons as well as increased maximum longitudinal electrostatic field at the back side of the solid target, which is very essential in target normal sheath acceleration regime of proton acceleration. For an applied chirp parameter between 0.008 and 0.01, the maximum amount of the electrostatic field is improved by a factor of 2....

    Abstract
In this paper, we propose a circuit model for two-dimensional arrays of metallic square holes located on a homogeneous substrate, in order to propose a new scheme containing this type of metamaterials to obtain transparent electrodes with simultaneous terahertz transparency and low electrical resistance. The results of the introduced circuit model, which is a fully analytical model with explicit expressions, are in almost complete agreement with the full-wave simulations. Thanks to this analytical model, we can employ standard binomial matching transformer in order to minimize the reflected power from the structure at a desired frequency. Furthermore, taking advantage of this model, we...

    Abstract
Exoskeleton robots are developed for human rehabilitation and power augmentation. Human and robot interaction is an important issue involved with these robots. In this paper, the interaction force reduction is considered leading to the transparency of a lower limb exoskeleton during swing phase of walking. Achieving this goal, a robust Lyapunov based motion control method has been developed. The desired reference signals for motion control are generated using a direct force control approach. Robot accelerations are estimated by an observer to be employed in the control loop. An adaptation procedure has been proposed for the bound estimation of uncertainties. As part of assumptions, the...

Coupler-free surface polariton excitation and propagation with cold four-level atomic medium

    , Article Journal of the Optical Society of America B: Optical Physics ; Volume 34, Issue 9 , 2017 , Pages 1787-1795 ; 07403224 (ISSN) Asgarnezhad Zorgabad, S ; Sadighi Bonabi, R ; Hang, C ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The possibility of the direct excitation of surface polaritons (SPs) by the free-space laser fields at the interface of negative-index metamaterial (NIMM) layer and a bottom layer of cold double Lambda-type atomic medium is investigated. The giant field enhancement (up to jE∕E0j2 ≈ 4.1), together with suppressed ohmic loss of the NIMM layer in a wide transparency window of a double electromagnetically induced transparency, results in the SPs generation. The excitation efficiency of these SPs can be effectively enhanced by applying the unidirectional atomic motion, modulation of the coupling laser characteristics, and using a probe laser with proper incident angle. Based on the special...

The dependency of optical properties on density for hot pressed MgF2

    Abstract
The effects of the most important parameters of hot pressing, including temperature, time and pressure on densification, microstructure and infrared transparency of MgF2 ceramics are discussed. The results show that the absorption or scattering of incident radiation is strongly dependent on the amount of porosity. By increasing the temperature or the pressure, transparency at infrared wavelengths has been increased due to the rise in density. For the longer hot pressing times, a continuous increase in density and infrared transparency has been seen as well. Cold pressing before hot press has minor effects on the density and infrared transparency of MgF2. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights...
