    Effect of gamma ray on poly(lactic acid)/poly(vinyl acetate-co-vinyl alcohol) blends as biodegradable food packaging films

    Abstract
    Poly(lactic acid) (PLA)/poly(vinyl acetate-. co-vinyl alcohol) [P(VAc-. co-VA)] blends as new transparent film packaging materials were prepared at various blend compositions and different vinyl alcohol contents. The blends and pure PLA were irradiated by gamma rays to investigate the extent of changes in the packaging material during gamma ray sterilization process. The miscibility of the blends was dependent on the blend composition and vinyl alcohol content; gamma irradiation had little effect on the extent of miscibility.     Abstract
    Propagation of a chirped laser pulse with a circular polarization through an uprising plasma density profile is studied by using 1D-3V particle-in-cell simulation. The laser penetration depth is increased in an overdense plasma compared to an unchirped pulse. The induced transparency due to the laser frequency chirp results in an enhanced heating of hot electrons as well as increased maximum longitudinal electrostatic field at the back side of the solid target, which is very essential in target normal sheath acceleration regime of proton acceleration. For an applied chirp parameter between 0.008 and 0.01, the maximum amount of the electrostatic field is improved by a factor of 2....

    This work aims to develop a chemically modified sol–gel synthesis pathway for obtaining various barium titanate nanostructures. The method is able to prepare different BaTiO3 nanostructures such as highly stable nanoparticle embedded colloids, highly transparent amorphous nanolayers, nanocrystalline BaTiO3 powders and ultrathin BaTiO3 nanostructured films directly from a precursor solution. All the products have been prepared at a lower temperature and in a more cost-effective way in contrast to other established sol–gel methods.     In this paper, we propose a circuit model for two-dimensional arrays of metallic square holes located on a homogeneous substrate, in order to propose a new scheme containing this type of metamaterials to obtain transparent electrodes with simultaneous terahertz transparency and low electrical resistance. The results of the introduced circuit model, which is a fully analytical model with explicit expressions, are in almost complete agreement with the full-wave simulations.     Abstract
    Indium tin oxide (ITO) thin films have been deposited using RF sputtering technique at different pressures, RF powers, and substrate temperatures. Variations in surface morphology, optical properties, and film resistances were measured and analyzed. It is shown that a very low value of sheet resistance (1.96 ω/sq.) can be achieved with suitable arrangement of the deposition experiments. First, at constant RF power, deposition at different pressure values is done, and the condition for achieving minimum sheet resistance (26.43 ω/sq.) is found.     Abstract
    Gold nanoparticles are widely used as high efficient photon-thermal energy converters in a broad range of applications. This paper presents a theoretical investigation on using the optothermal properties of gold nanoparticle arrays to generate nanoscale molten and rubbery regions on the surface of an amorphous polymeric film. Nanoparticles are assumed to be embedded in a transparent silica layer and illuminated with a 7.5 ns pulsed laser at 532 nm. Simulation results are presented for systems with single gold nanoparticles, dimers and chains.     Abstract
    In this research, response surface methodology (RSM) was applied to study the effects of Na-Montmorillonite (Na-MMT) and glycerol on some functional properties of corn starch films. Films were prepared by casting method according to central composite design (CCD). Originally image processing technique was used in order to estimate transparency of the films. It was found that Na-MMT absorbed UV light from 216 to 266. nm. No antimicrobial activities were observed against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. This paper presents the results of a theoretical study on the utilization of laser-induced heating of a gold nanoparticle (GNP) to melt a region of a transparent material with sub-wavelength spatial resolution.     Formation of transparent glass-ceramic in the system MgO-SiO 2-Al 2O 3-K 2O-B 2O 3-F with and without addition of LiF and NaF has been investigated. Crystallization of glass-sample was conducted by controlled thermal heat-treatment, at determined nucleation and crystallization temperatures. In this regard, the effects of addition of LiF and NaF were investigated on the crystallization behavior and transparency of the samples.     Effect of NaF on crystallization kinetics, microstructure, and mechanical properties of mica glass ceramics were investigated by the differential thermal analysis (DTA), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and microhardness tests. Non-isothermal DTA experiments showed that the crystallization activation energies of base glasses are changed in the range of 235-246 KJ/mol, while the crystallization activation energies of samples with addition of NaF are changed in the range of 263-367 KJ/mol. The reported instrument measures the transmitted output power depending up on the medium refractive index in the light path of a fiber-to-fiber design.     In this study, the effects of TiO2 addition on the physical and photoelectrochemical properties of ZnO thin films have been investigated. The (TiO2)x-(ZnO)1-x nanocomposite thin films were dip-coated on both glass and indium tin oxide (ITO)-coated conducting glass substrates with various values of x, specifically 0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.25 and 0.5. Optical properties of the samples were studied by UV-vis spectrophotometry in the range of 300-1100 nm.
