Optimization of Nanostructures for Electron Emission

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Yasrebi, Navid (Author) ; Rashidian, Bizhan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The need for better characterization systems (electron microscopes) and high resolution lithography systems, have made electron beams systems an interesting choice for research and development. In fact, all of the above applications require ideal electron beams (beams with minimum energy spread, maximum current density, and minimum spotsize), and electron-optic lenses (simple lenses with minimum aberration). In this research, theoretical aspects of electron emission and lens systems are reviewed. Field emission array (FEA) electron guns are introduced as electron sources with minimum energy spread, and a new simulation method is presented in order to minimize the complexity, and reduce the...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Kafaie Shirmanesh, Ghazaleh (Author) ; Mehrany, Khashayar (Supervisor) ; Khavasi, Amin (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
In several electro-optic and optoelectronic devices, we require the structures with simultaneous high electrical conductivity and optical transparency so as to transmit the incident light. Transparent Conductive Electrodes (TCEs) that are both highly conductive and transparent were introduced to be an answer to the mentioned challenge. Periodic arrays of metallic holes are amongst the most important structures that are used as transparent electrodes. Using the metals with low electrical resistivity, such as Au and Ag, provides these structures with high electrical conductance. On the other hand, since these micro/nano structures support the propagation of guided electromagnetic waves, light...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Navadeh Toupchi, Morteza (Author) ; Sadighi Bonabi, Rasoul (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this work a theoretical overview of Parity-Time symmetry and its application in multilevel atomic systems are presented. Because of equivalence between the Schrodinger equation and the paraxial propagation equation, complex index of refraction plays the role of complex potential. On the other side, the possibility to manipulate loss, gain and the index of refraction simultaneously, Optics is a fertile ground to investigate Parity-Time symmetry and one of this symmetry’s applications is reduction of loss in optical systems. Furthermore, In order to realize Parity time symmetry a four level atomic system under electromagnetically induced transparency condition is proposed. Optical gain...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nazari, Kianoosh (Author) ; Farahmand, Farzam (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Common fracture treatments include open reduction and intramedullary nailing technology. However, these methods have disadvantages such as intraoperative X-ray radiation, delayed union or nonunion and postoperative rotation. Robots provide a novel solution to the aforementioned problems while having new challenges. The robotic system used in the study by providing more precise motion and exerting higher amount of forces makes the operation procedure more straightforward. In a normal operation 300-400 N of extension force would be needed which is fully provided by the surgen which leads to physical his/her (khastegi), by using the robotic system however, this force is simply provided without...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohammadi, Sina (Author) ; Taghavinia, Nima (Supervisor) ; Abachi, Parvin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Zinc oxide is a wide band gap semiconductor material with wide applications as conductive oxides used in electro-optical devices. Thin films of doped zinc oxide (e.g. Al:ZnO, B:ZnO) are already used in thin-film solar cell technologies as electrodes. Chemical bath deposition (CBD) is a promising method for fabricating transparent and conductive ZnO layers at low temperatures (<100 °C) on nonconductive and temperature-sensitive substrates. Having a natural crystal habit, ZnO readily grows rod-like arrays when grown in an aqueous solution by CBD, posing challenges when attempting to deposit dense and conductive layers. The purpose of this study was to deposit dense and conductive zinc oxide...

Fabrication of Transparent, Superhydrophobic and Self-cleaning Coatings for Glass Substrate Using Nano-particles

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Liravi, Mohammad (Author) ; moosavi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Although using solar energies have some limitations, such as low efficiency, require a large space and high starting cost, they are one of the most attractive source of energies. The reasons that cause efficiency of the solar panels decrease are contamination of dust particles on them and formation of water droplet on solar panel surface due to humidity of the air. Also, a solar panel can absorb only 25% of incident light and the others are reflected by the cover glass. Therefore, fabrication of a self-cleaning surface that can inhibit the aggregation of dust particles and also transparent that doesn’t reflect the incident light is crucial. In this work, we aim to obtain a transparent,...

Effect of Quantum Emitters on Propagation Length and Optical Properties of Surface Polaritons

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Asgarnezhad Zorgabad, Saeed (Author) ; Sadighi Bonabi, Rasoul (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The abstract is the most important section of the thesis because many readers limit most of their reading to abstracts, saving in-depth reading for specific theses. It should give the reader a "preview" of what's to come. The abstract should emphasize new and important aspects of the study or observations. The purpose of the abstract is to allow researchers to decide whether or not to read the whole thesis. The abstract is what researchers read first to decide if the thesis is important, interesting, and it allows them to assess the relevance of a thesis to their own research, without having to read the entire thesis. Thus, it is crucial that the abstract both summarize succinctly the key...
