    Abstract
    This paper develops a behavioral analysis of freight mode choice decisions that could provide a basis for an acceptable analytical tool for policy assessment. The paper specifically examines the way that truck and rail compete for commodity movement in the US. Two binary mode choice models are introduced in which some shipment-specific variables (e.g. distance, weight and value) and mode-specific variables (e.g. haul time and cost) are found to be determinants. The specifications of the non-selected choice are imputed in a machine learning module.     Abstract
    This paper introduces a novel low-complexity multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) detector tailored for single-carrier frequency division-multiple access (SC-FDMA) systems, suitable for efficient hardware implementations. The proposed detector starts with an initial estimate of the transmitted signal based on a minimum mean square error (MMSE) detector. Subsequently, it recognizes less reliable symbols for which more candidates in the constellation are browsed to improve the initial estimate.     In Cognitive Radio (CR), in order to avoid interference in the Primary Users (PU), some subcarriers need to be deactivated. In systems based on Multicarrier Code Division Multiple Access (MC-CDMA), this causes losing orthogonality among different spreading codes, leading to poor Bit Error Rate (BER) performance. The performance of such system can be improved by using Generalized Hadamard Codes (GHC) instead of conventional Hadamard codes which avoids the loss of orthogonality.     In this paper a single stage structure is proposed for realizing a three-phase unity power factor rectifier. This topology utilizes a forward/flyback transformer to allow the high-frequency isolation. The principle of the operation and the applied control concept is discussed. Space vector modulation is used in order to achieve unity power factor and to have the output voltage be regulated.     Abstract
    This paper presents a comprehensive study on the Full-Rate and Linear-Receiver (FRLR) STBC proposed as a newly coding scheme with the low decoding complexity for a 2×2 MIMO system. It is shown that the FRLR code suffers from the lack of the non-vanishing determinant (NVD) property that is a key parameter in designing a full-rate STBC with a good performance in higher data rates, across QAM constellation. To overcome this drawback, we show that the existence of the NVD feature for the FRLR code depends on the type of the modulation.     In this paper, the Line-Modulated Fixed Off-Time method is used as the current control strategy for a Power Factor Corrector (PFC) pre-regulator. A zero voltage switching PWM (ZVS-PWM) auxiliary circuit is configured to perform ZVS in the switches. Soft commutation of the main switch is achieved without additional current stress. In this paper, a single degree of freedom model of orthogonal turning process is used to set up the delay differential equation of motion with considering the tool wear effect as a contact force between the workpiece and tool flank surfaces.     In this study power transmission modulation for different fibers in a fiber-to-fiber design using two different light sources is reported. A fiber-to-fiber arrangement is used in which the source light is directly coupled to the first fiber and the second fiber delivers the light to a power meter.     In this paper, we present a novel approach to generate images of extended depth-of-field (DOF) to support realization of three-dimensional (3D) imaging systems such as integral imaging. In our approach in extending the DOF, we take advantage of the spatial frequency spectrum of the object specific to the task in hand.     In this research, nonlinear dynamics of an air-ehandling unit (AHU) is studied for tracking objectives, in the presence of harmonic perturbations. Three arbitrary realistic set-paths are considered for the indoor temperature and relative humidity. Two controllers based on feedback linearization (FBL) and pole placement approaches are designed to preserve the dynamic system around the desired tracking paths.     Abstract
    This paper introduces a high efficiency AC voltage regulator based on an AC/AC buck converter cascaded by a transformer in series with the input voltage. The AC/AC converter uses an overlap time in the gate signals to solve the commutation problem. Non-use of any snubber circuits and current sensors leads to lower cost, smaller size and simpler hardware. The converter generates only the compensation term which results in smaller switches and, thus, lower cost. Simulation and experimental results verify the performance of the proposed topology

    A novel two-level signaling technique in OOC-based fiber-optic CDMA systems is proposed. Users of the system are categorized into two classes. Users of class 1 and 2 transmit the optical pulses at power level P and 2P respectively. We study two kinds of receiver structure for the proposed two-level system. For the first structure we use ordinary AND logic gate and for the second one we use optical ADC with AND logic gate structure. We obtain the system performance and we show that for the two-level signaling multi-access interference is considerably suppressed.     In this paper the direct torque control (DTC) of the induction motor fed by four switch three phase inverter (FSTPI) is investigated. A modified space vector modulation (SVM) approach with optimal voltage vector sequence is proposed to compensate the effect of dc-link voltage variations caused by circulating phase current through the capacitor bank. SVMDTC scheme of FSTPI fed induction motor is based on stator flux oriented control.
