    Abstract
    MIMO (Mulitple Input Multiple Output) localization has attracted much attention recently. In such schemes, using multiple antennas at transmitter and receiver sides provides spatial diversity. On the other hand, Passive Coherent Location (PCL) by using the illuminators of opportunity (such as FM, GSM, DVB transmitters) has shown a number of advantages. In this paper, we explore the possibility of achieving diversity gain by using multiple non-cooperative transmitters. In earlier works on MIMO localization, cooperative transmitters were assumed, so that orthogonality between transmitted waveforms could be granted.     Abstract
    In this paper, the problem of coarse timing synchronization in orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) systems is investigated, and two new timing metrics with better performance are presented. The new metrics take advantage of two novel differential normalization functions that are based on the fourth-order statistics and are designed depending on the value of carrier frequency offset (CFO). The proposed timing metrics are theoretically evaluated using two different class separability criteria.     In this paper, we evaluate the saturation throughput for an IEEE 802.11 based wireless network considering capture effect at the receiver, while nodes transmit with random powers. In this respect, we consider a scenario consisting of a specific number of wireless nodes. Then, we derive the transmission as well as collision probabilities with respect to the perfect capture effect. In order to maximize the saturation throughput we set up an optimization problem and obtain how to compute optimum values for the probabilities corresponding to different power levels.     In this paper, we propose a new packet prioritization scheme in order to exploit the full-duplex (FD) capability of the access point (AP) more efficiently, in an asymmetric IEEE 802.11-based WLAN, i.e., only the AP has the in-band FD communications capability.     Wireless body area network (WBAN) is composed of miniaturised sensors that operate in the vicinity of the human body for recording the vital physiological signals and wirelessly transmitting them to a central hub for further processing.     In this paper we introduce a novel cross layer design between MAC and physical layers. Our novel design is based on controlling the adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) transmission mode at the physical layer according to the queue length of finite buffer at the data link layer and each transmission mode of AMC.     Abstract
    The smart antenna technique as a method of improving the physical layer performance of OFDM WLANs is studied. For this purpose, a comparison of the smart antenna architectures for IEEE802.11a WLAN system using pre-FFT and post-FFT array processing with different parameters is represented. Simulations are performed on a new Simulink model for IEEE802.11a system using a spatio-temporal channel modeling which is based on the measured wideband channels in the 5GHz band.     Abstract
    The IEEE 802.11 contention-based distributed coordination function has been used in ad hoc networks, and so far, a comprehensive mathematical analysis of such multihop systems has not been reported in the literature due to complicating factors such as hidden terminals and the unreachability problem. In this paper, we propose a new analytical model based on the parallel space-time Markov chain for IEEE 802.11 medium access control (MAC) in multihop ad hoc networks. The proposed scheme is able to model the hidden-terminal and unreachability phenomena. Extensive evaluation is conducted to demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed framework. © 2009 IEEE
