    , Article Materials Chemistry and Physics ; Volume 289 , 2022 ; 02540584 (ISSN) Ghayoor, R ; Yousefi, M. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2022
    Abstract
Monitoring the oxygen in the fume and controlling its amount at high temperatures is an efficient way to regulate combustion efficiency. Zirconia can be an attractive candidate for use in oxygen sensors due to its good physical and chemical properties. The crystal structure of pure zirconia nanopowder due to the lack of cubic phase cannot be used for the fabrication of gas sensor electrodes. Moreover, the change of temperature during ceramic processing and application can promote structural and phase stresses. In this work, to achieve a pure cubic phase, yttria was successfully added to zirconia by a large-scale and effective method called Pechini. The yttria-stabilized zirconia nanopowders...

    , Article Thin-Walled Structures ; Volume 179 , 2022 ; 02638231 (ISSN) Taati, E ; Fallah, F ; Ahmadian, M. T ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2022
    Abstract
A nonlinear fluid–structure interaction (FSI) model is presented for nonlinear vibration analysis of sandwich cylindrical shells subjected to an external compressible flow by considering the curvature nonlinearity in impermeability condition and bending. The sandwich shells are made of two face sheets and a central core of advanced materials including functionally graded (FG), metal foam, and anisogrid lattice composite. Based on the Kirchhoff–love hypotheses with the geometric nonlinearities in the normal strain and curvature of mid-surface, one decoupled nonlinear integral–differential equation is obtained for axisymmetric bending vibration of sandwich cylindrical shells. For the first...

The principal purpose of this paper is to select the models with the maximum accuracy for the prediction of microhardness of CHA/ZrO2 nanocomposite. For this purpose, three models, including gene expression programming (GEP), gray wolf optimization algorithm (GWOA), and least squares support vector machine (LS-SVM), were implemented to predict and optimize the microhardness of the CHA/ZrO2 nanocomposite. Finally, the results showed that the data obtained from the LS-SVM model were closer to the preliminary data than the others. According to the results, the LS-SVM could...

Band-structure calculation of SH-waves in 1D hypersonic nano-sized phononic crystals with deformable interfaces

    , Article Mechanics of Materials ; Volume 171 , 2022 ; 01676636 (ISSN) Jam, M.T ; Shodja, H. M ; Sanati, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2022
    Abstract
Nanoscopic interface deformations between the layers in a superlattice have a great impact on its phononic band-structure. This work aims to study the SH-wave band-structure in one-dimensional (1D) multilayer hypersonic nano-sized phononic crystals with consideration of local deformations at the interfaces of the layers. At this scale, the traditional theory of elasticity is unable to capture the realistic forbidden and permitted frequencies. Thus, in light of surface/interface elastodynamics theory for nanostructures with deformable interfaces, a mixed variational method which accounts for the notion of interface elasticity, deformability, and inertia is introduced in the present work. For...

    Abstract
The creation of surfaces with various super nonwetting properties is an ongoing challenge. We report diverse modifications of novel synthesized zirconia-ceria nanocomposites by different low surface energy agents to fabricate nanofluids capable of regulating surface wettability of mineral substrates to achieve selective superhydrophobic, superoleophobic-superhydrophilic, and superamphiphobic conditions. Surfaces treated with these nanofluids offer self-cleaning properties and effortless rolling-off behavior with sliding angles ≤7° for several liquids with surface tensions between 26 and 72.1 mN/m. The superamphiphobic nanofluid coating imparts nonstick properties to a solid surface whereby...

    Abstract
The fabrication of supported noble metal nanocrystals (NCs) with well-controlled morphologies have been attracted considerable interests due to their merits in a wide variety of applications. Photodeposition is a facile and effective method to load metals over semiconductors in a simple slurry reactor under irradiation. By optimizing the photodeposition process, the size, chemical states, and the geometrical distribution of metal NCs have been successfully tuned. However, metal NCs with well-controlled shapes through the photodeposition process have not been reported until now. Here, we report our important advances in the controlled photodeposition process to load regular noble metal NCs....

    Abstract
The use of ZrO2 nanoparticles is common in the Cu matrix to manufacture Cu/ZrO2 nanocomposites. Many approaches and parameters produce Cu/ZrO2 nanocomposites with an appropriate wear rate and other properties. Hence, proposing an accurate and reliable model was imperative. The main goal of this paper is to find out the best models among the ant colony optimization (ACO), gene expression programming (GEP), artificial bee colony (ABC), and gray wolf optimization algorithm (GWOA) to predict the wear rate of/ZrO2 nanocomposites. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first research that predicts Cu/ZrO2 nanocomposites wear rate using group modeling. To develop models, 105 data were collected...

    Abstract
Nanoparticle halo mechanism is a stabilization method for microparticle suspensions. This study investigates suspension pH and nanoparticles–microparticles collision effects on the stabilization of an aqueous binary suspension. The long-term turbidity measurements show that for the nanosilica suspension stability is directly correlated with pH values; however, in the cases of zirconia and binary suspensions, it is not a monotonic function of pH. It is shown that for binary suspension, the halo mechanism is the primary method affecting the stability of the suspension. The suspension is best-stabilized at pH = 5 that is associated with high halo mechanism efficiency, while increased repulsive...

    Abstract
LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 (NCM811) has been considered as a promising cathode for Li-ion batteries (LIBs) due to its high electrochemical capacity and low cost; however, poor cycling stability is one of the main restricting factors in industrial applications of the NCM811 cathode material. Notably, the capacity fading and low structural stability of NCM811 are intensified at elevated temperatures. ZrO2- and composite rGO-ZrO2-coated NCM811 were fabricated by a facile wet chemical method and evaluated at 25 and 55 °C to overcome these impediments. The ZrO2 coating provides superior cycling and thermal stability and perfectly protects the cathode active material from deleterious side reactions, and...

    Abstract
We report on the response of a monolithic high Tc transition-edge bolometer to about 3 mmWave for the first time. The detector structure consisting of 400-nm YBa2Cu3O7-x(YBCO) film on buffered yttria stabilized zirconia substrate without any coupled antenna, shows bolometric type responsivity to the 3-mmWave radiation at its transition temperature. The YBCO thin film Ce0.9La0.1O2 buffer layer are both fabricated by the metal-organic deposition method. The meander line pattern of the bolometer is designed for obtaining maximum absorption and responsivity possible when the polarized radiation of the source is aligned with the pattern. Meander lines are 50 micrometers wide and 1.5-mm long. We...

    Abstract
In this study, zirconia antistatic coatings were synthesized by a simple dip coating sol-gel route on glass substrates, then applied to polymer-based composites to potentially improve their dust or water repellent capabilities. The coating solution contained a precursor (ZrCl4), solvent (isopropanol) and coupling agent. FTIR spectra confirmed ZrO2 and ZrO compounds in both solution and antistatic coating. FE-SEM images indicated ZrO2 fibers’ thickness was controlled by changing ZrCl4 concentration (150 g–15 g ZrCl4/l) or relative humidity (20%–60%) during coating drying. Fibers grew thicker when decreasing the former or increasing the latter. The surface electrical resistivity for all...

    Abstract
Yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystals (Y-TZP) have been widely applied in fixed partial prostheses as well as dental uses i.e. a substructure for crowns. However, Y-TZP has limited applications, which is due to the presence of defects in its microstructure introduced during the manufacturing process. Accordingly, due to Y-TZP limitations, the novel (X)Y-TZP- 20Al2O3-(80-X) SiO2 (X = 65, 70 and 75) ceramic nanocomposites were successfully fabricated via the powder metallurgy method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns of commercial powders showed the stabilization of monoclinic zirconia (ZM) by increasing the silica content. In order to determine the fracture load and micro-bending...
