, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Heidari, Sepehr (Author) ; Zabihollah, Abolghasem (Supervisor) ; Behzad, Mehdi ($item.subfieldsMap.e)
    Abstract
Rotary machines including gas turbines have been widely used in many industries like gas reducing pressure stations and power plants. Blades are important components of gas turbines which are subjected to failure due to different kind of damages like crack occurrence. There are various reasons for crack occurrence and its propagation in blades. Presence of crack in the blades may lead to major failure, which in turn, result in emergency shutdown of the system. Therefore condition monitoring is employed to check the possibility of failures. In recent years, condition monitoring techniques have been developed to prevent unnecessary shutdown of the systems. The present thesis aims to...

Designing and Implementing a Cluster-based Energy-aware Routing Algorithm for Wireless Sensor Network

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohseni, Mina (Author) ; Miremadi, Ghasem (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) consist of sensor nodes that are connected to each other and are widely used in many applications to acquire and process information. WSN nodes are battery powered, therefore energy management is a key factor for long live network. Node radio transceiver unit uses the most part of energy resource of the node and as a result limits the network lifetime. One way to prolong lifetime of network is to utilize routing protocols to manage energy consumption. To have an energy efficient protocol, we can apply cluster organization on the network, where sensor nodes are partitioned into groups called cluster. Then, the whole cluster data is sent through Cluster Head...

Hardware Redundancy in Fault-Tolerant Digital Systems: A VHDL Approach to Evaluate TMR Robustness

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Samsami Khodadad, Farshid (Author) ; Jahed, Mehran (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Triple Module redundancy (TMR) is a commonly used approach to increase reliability in space applications. Applying this method, triple modules and voting circuits are implemented in a field programmable gate array (FPGA). In TMR systems when a single event upset (SEU) occurs, the voting circuit neglects the failure value of a module receiving the SEU and takes a correct value from the other two modules. The present TMR approach utilized for the combinational and sequential logic on the gate level shows that it is possible to write hardware description language (VHDL) code in a structured yet high level coding style to obtain the required redundancy. However using VHDL, the level of required...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Shirmohammadi, Zahra (Author) ; Miremadi, Ghasem (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Recent advances in Very-Large-Scale Integration (VLSI) technologies have enabled designers to integrate a large number of Processing Elements (PEs) on a single die. According to International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors (ITRS), the number of PEs will reach 5000 on a single die in 2021. Although the main achievements of such rapid advancement in chips are high processing speed, shrinkage of technology size has made chips highly sensitive to different challenges. Networks on chip (NoCs), as an example of these systems, are not exempted from these challenges. Crosstalk fault is one of the major fault resources in NoCs. Crosstalk faults occur due to coupling capacitances between...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Asadinia, Marjan (Author) ; Sarbazi Azad, Hamid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) has been the leading main memory technology during the last four decades. In deep sub-micron regime, however, scaling DRAM comes with several challenges caused by charge leakage and imprecise charge placement. Phase Change Memory (PCM) technology is known as one of the most promising technologies to replace DRAM. Compared to competitive non-volatile memories, PCM benefits from best attributes of fast random access, negligible leakage energy, superior scalability, high density, and operating in both Single-level Cell (SLC) and Multi-level Cell (MLC) storage levels without imposing large storage overhead. Unfortunately, density advantage of MLC PCM devices...
