    , Article Electrochimica Acta ; Vol. 147, issue , 2014 , pp. 136-142 ; ISSN: 00134686 Jokar, E ; Shahrokhian, S ; Zad, A. I ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Performance enhancement of supercapacitors has been recently discussed. In this paper a novel and facile procedure for functionalization of graphene with some electroactive molecules is presented. The graphene has been functionalized by catechol-based molecules, which are electroactive molecules with electrochemically reversible properties. The functionalized graphene exhibits very effective pseudocapacitor behaviorfor charge storage. For the first time, with the aim of an electrosynthesis procedure, catechol is covalently attached on graphene sheets. This attachment has been investigated by electrochemical, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and attenuated total reflectance methods. Catechol...

    , Article RSC Advances ; Vol. 4, issue. 85 , 2014 , pp. 45174-45179 ; ISSN: 20462069 Alimirsalari, S ; Tajabadi, F ; Salehkoutahi, S. M ; Ghahary, R ; Taghavinia, N ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
A TiO2replica of ZnO nanosheet films is synthesized using a chemical replacement process. ZnO nanosheets are grown by electrodeposition on fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO) films, and a dissolution/deposition process is used to convert the ZnO template into a TiO2replica. Electron microscopy shows the final TiO2structure follows the morphology of the initial ZnO template. X-ray diffraction and energy dispersive spectroscopy verify the total transformation of ZnO to TiO2. The as-synthesized TiO2sheets are amorphous and after annealing turn into the anatase phase. The film of TiO2nanosheets is used as the photoanode of a dye sensitized solar cell. Despite the low roughness factor of 100, a...

The electrochemical behavior of MD at GNS-CNS/CS modified glassy carbon electrode has been investigated using cyclic and differential pulse voltammetry in aqueous media at different pHs. The prepared electrode showed an excellent electrochemical activity toward the electro-oxidation of MD leading to a...

Toxicity of graphene and graphene oxide nanowalls against bacteria

    , Article ACS Nano ; Volume 4, Issue 10 , October , 2010 , Pages 5731-5736 ; 19360851 (ISSN) Akhavan, O ; Ghaderi, E ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
Bacterial toxicity of graphene nanosheets in the form of graphene nanowalls deposited on stainless steel substrates was investigated for both Gram-positive and Gram-negative models of bacteria. The graphene oxide nanowalls were obtained by electrophoretic deposition of Mg2+-graphene oxide nanosheets synthesized by a chemical exfoliation method. On the basis of measuring the efflux of cytoplasmic materials of the bacteria, it was found that the cell membrane damage of the bacteria caused by direct contact of the bacteria with the extremely sharp edges of the nanowalls was the effective mechanism in the bacterial inactivation. In this regard, the Gram-negative Escherichia coli bacteria with an...

    Abstract
TiO2 nanoparticles were physically attached to chemically synthesized single-layer graphene oxide nanosheets deposited between Au electrodes in order to investigate the electrical, chemical, and structural properties of the TiO2/graphene oxide composition exposed to UV irradiation. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy showed that after effective photocatalytic reduction of the graphene oxide sheets by the TiO2 nanoparticles in ethanol, the carbon content of the reduced graphene oxides gradually decreased by increasing the irradiation time, while no considerable variation was detected in the reduction level of the reduced sheets. Raman spectroscopy indicated that, at first, the photocatalytic...

    Abstract
Graphene thin films with very low concentration of oxygen-containing functional groups were produced by reduction of graphene oxide nanosheets (prepared by using a chemical exfoliation) in a reducing environment and using two different heat treatment procedures (called one and two-step heat treatment procedures). The effects of heat treatment procedure and temperature on thickness variation of graphene platelets and also on reduction of the oxygen-containing functional groups of the graphene oxide nanosheets were studied by atomic force microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. While formation of the thin films composed of single-layer graphene nanosheets with minimum thickness of...

    , Article Journal of Physical Chemistry C ; Volume 113, Issue 47 , 2009 , Pages 20214-20220 ; 19327447 (ISSN) Akhavan, O ; Ghaderi, E ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Graphene oxide platelets synthesized by using a chemical exfoliation method were deposited on anatase TiO2 thin films. Postannealing of the graphene oxide/TiO2 thin films at 400 °C in air resulted in partial formation of a Ti-C bond between the platelets and their beneath thin film. By using atomic force microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analyses, UV-visible light-induced photocatalytic reduction of the graphene oxide platelets of the annealed graphene oxide/TiO2. thin films immersed in ethanol was studied for the different irradiation times. After 4 h of photocatalytic reduction, the vertical space between the platelets decreased from about 1.1 to less than 0.8 nm and the...

    Abstract
During the last decade, fabrication of high-quality graphene films by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) for nanoelectronics and optoelectronic applications has attracted increasing attention. However, processing of large-area monolayer and defect-free graphene films is still challenging. In this work, we have studied the effect of processing conditions on the self-limited growth of graphene monolayers on copper foils during low pressure CVD both experimentally and theoretically based on thermokinetics and kinetics of Langmuir adsorption. The effect of copper pre-treatment, growth time, and carbon potential of the atmosphere (indicated by the methane-to-hydrogen gas ratio, r) on the quality of...

    Abstract
Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), a two-dimensional transition metal has a 2D layered structure and has recently attracted attention due to its novel catalytic properties. In this study, MoS2 has been successfully intercalated using chemical and physical intercalation techniques, while enhancing its surface properties. The final intercalated MoS2 is of many interests because of its low-dimensional and potential properties in in-situ catalysis. In this research, we report different methods to intercalate the layers of MoS2 successfully using acid-treatment, ultrasonication, oxidation and thermal shocking. The other goal of this study is to form S[dbnd]O bonds mainly because of expected enhanced...

    Abstract
A facile hydrothermal method and subsequent electroactivation have been developed to fabricate three-dimensional (3D) CuO nanosheet arrays on the copper foil substrate, which can be used directly as a binder-free electrode for supercapacitor applications. Under optimum conditions, by using this facile method, a high capacitance of 125 mF/cm2 at a current density of 0.3 mA/cm2 is obtained. The prepared supercapacitor showed a good rate capability (46.4% capacitance retention, when the current density is increased to more than 30 times) and an excellent cyclability (more than 88% capacitance retention after 3000 cycles). © 2017 Elsevier B.V

    Abstract
Bioactivity of Escherichia coli bacteria (as a simple model for microorganisms) and interaction of them with the environment were controlled by their capturing within aggregated graphene nanosheets. The oxygen-containing functional groups of chemically exfoliated single-layer graphene oxide nanosheets were reduced by melatonin as a biocompatible antioxidant. While each one of the graphene (oxide) suspension and melatonin solution did not separately show any considerable inactivation effects on the bacteria, aggregation of the sheets in the melatonin-bacterial suspension resulted in trapping the bacteria within the aggregated sheets, i.e., a kind of inactivation. The bacteria trapped within...

    Abstract
Demand increasing for next generation portable and miniaturized electronics has aroused much interest to explore microscale and lightweight energy storage devices. Herein, we demonstrate successful development of flexible wire-shaped micro-supercapacitors (micro-SCs) based on novel CoNi2S4/E-NZP film@Cu wire electrode. The etched Ni-Zn-P (E-NZP) film was synthesized by directly deposition of NZP film on Cu wire, followed by a chemical etching process. Alkaline etching treatment provides a micro- and mesoporous structure with high surface area and facilitates the penetration of electrolyte ions into the electrode matrix. Then, CoNi2S4 nanosheets as electroactive material are electrochemically...
