, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Moshtaghi, Behnam (Author) ; Ahmadian, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The injection process on cell is a very accurate and sensitive operation. This method is used for several new invented approaches such as tracytoplasmic Cell Injection or drug delivery. Controlling the injection force in micro scale is one of the problems of mentioned operations. Current huge and expensive laboratorial devices are helping the operators to do injection operation with :nore success. In this study a simple and novel microelectromechanical (MEMS) mechanism for doing injection process automatically on the biological cells is proposed. In order to controlling this device properly, we should model and simulate the operation condition from initial position to final condition. This...

Performance and Rheological Characteristics of Modified Binders

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Tabatabaee, Hassan Ali (Author) ; Tabatabaee, Nader (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The ever increasing usage of modified binders in road construction requires that the effect of different modifiers on the performance characteristics of the asphalt binder be determined through laboratory testing. The current Superpave protocol for performance grading asphalt binders has proven to be insufficient to properly characterize modified binders, thus researchers have searched for other testing methods to complement or possibly replace some of the Superpave tests. Most notable are the time sweep test for fatigue resistance, the multiple stress creep and recovery test (MSCR) for rutting resistance and the direct tension test (DTT) for low temperature cracking characteristics. In the...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Charkhtab Basim, Mohammad (Author) ; Esmaeil Pourestekanchi, Homayoon (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In recent decades, most of the codes have placed a high value on Performance Based Design of structures; however, these methods are computationally complex and time-consuming, and caused researchers to seek new and efficient methods to investigate performance of structures under different intensities of seismic loading. This issue is much more obvious when optimum design of structures, which requires repetitive analysis, is investigated. In the present research, using Endurance Time analysis, we are trying to provide better insights into the dynamic behavior of structures in continuous performance levels. Then, as a first step, we will use the verified method to find the optimum outline of...

Analytical Problems of Prestressd Post-tensione Concrete Slabs

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Javanmardi, Mohammad Reza (Author) ; Khaloo, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Recently in civil engineering prestressed concrete slab applications is increasing, and typically results in overall economy and provides satisfactory structural performance. In The present work, two-way prestressed concrete slabs have been considered and during designing process with the ACI-2005 code and due to economic plan, prestressed slabs were studied in transfer, service and final conditions. ACI code insists that two-way prestressed slabs shall be classified as class U (without cracking) that means section must be untracked in all conditions (code reference 18.3.3). In addition, two-way prestressed slabs must be prestressed in both directions for 100% of load, and this means that...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Niroomandi, Arash (Author) ; Borghei, Mahmoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Water hammer is a pressure surge or wave resulting when a pressurized fluid in motion is forced to stop or change direction suddenly. This phenomenon can cause great amount of damage to the system and should be considered in designing of pipe systems. So, researchers have derived and proposed numerous models using different approaches. In this study a one-dimensional model using Time Splitting Method (TSM) and Double Sweep Method (DSM) are proposed to simulate transient flow in deformable pipes in networks. To solve the equations of momentum and continuity TSM is applied. In addition Brunone model is used to study the effect of unsteady friction on water hammer wave shape and attenuation. To...

Experimental Study on Aerodynamic Deformation of Flexible Wings of an Ornithopter

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jaberi, Pouyan (Author) ; Mazaheri, Karim (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Flapping motions of flexible wings generate dynamic forces. These forces include aerodynamic forces and inertial forces due to angular acceleration of wing mass, that cause aeroelastic deformation of wings. In this thesis a method is presented by use of a software and some experimental test conditions to study elastic behaviors and aerodynamic forces of flexible wings. A high speed camera records motion of wings in hovering condition and then these images is processed with software to recognize deformations (such as deflection, torsion, etc.) and aerodynamic forces due to them. Afterwards aerodynamic model and deformations is combined for better modeling. Finally we can compare results with...

    Abstract
Considering that automobile weigth reduction in industry is important, improvement the strength of low carbon steel sheets is important. These sheets can be supported the service condition in lower thicknesses. Bulk nano-structured materials have been mostly attracted in materials science due to their unique physical and mechanical properties. Severe plastic deformation (SPD) is one of the most efficient methods to produce ultra fine grained or nano-structured materials. Materials produced by SPD are of great importance because of (1) non-porous structure, (2) great mechanical properties such as high strength and toughness and (3) proper dimension for mechanical and physical testing. ...

Stress Analysis of in Cross-ply Laminates in Bending

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Yazdani Sarvestani, Hamid Reza (Author) ; Nosier, Asghar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In the present study, an analytical solution is developed to calculate the interlaminar stresses in long generally cross-ply laminated composite plates subjected to bending. At first, upon the integration of the strain-displacement relations and using the existing patterns in deformation of the long laminate, the general displacement field is extracted and simplified to the final form. Presented solution is based on a combined method containing the equivalent single-layer (ESL) theories beside the Reddy’s layerwise theory. In this method, the equivalent single-layer theories are utilized because of their simplicity and low computational efforts rather than the layerwise theory in evaluation...

Numerical Analysis of Buried Pipelines Subjected to Normal-Oblique Faulting

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Razavi, Omid (Author) ; Rahimzadeh Rofooei, Fayyaz (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In existing societies, transportation of water, oil, gas and other liquids in great amounts between distant locations is economically feasible only through pipelines. Design of buried pipelines against static loads is an established and straight forward process. On the other hand, because of difficulties in predicting the behavior of buried pipelines under seismic loads and also lack of sufficient studies in this field, there is no specific code oriented approach for performance analysis of buried pipelines under seismic loads. Due to insufficient three dimensional numerical analyses on the behavior of buried pipelines crossing active normal and normal-oblique faults for different dip angles...

Parametric Investigation of the Behavior of Buried Pipelines under Reverse-Oblique Faulting

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Baie, Reza (Author) ; Rahimzadeh Rofooei, Fayyaz (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Buried pipelines are among the most important elements of lifelines that are used for distribution of water, gas, petroleum, etc. Previous studies indicate that the severe damages that resulted in complete disruption of pipelines, is mainly due to permanent ground displacement caused by faulting. Previous studies on this subject have mostly focused on strike-slip and normal faulting. Since it is reported that damages due to reverse faulting can be more severe than damages caused by normal faulting, a comprehensive study on the behavior of buried pipelines subjected to reverse faulting is needed. In this thesis, the effect of various parameters including burial depth, pipe diameter, pipe wall...

Panel Flutter Analysis of Cylindrical Constrained Layer Damping (CLD) Panels

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sadeghmanesh, Mostafa (Author) ; Haddadpour, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analytically study the aeroelastic characteristics of the cylindrical shells fully treated with passive constrained layer damping (PCLD) to indicate the effects of various parameters on the behavior of such structures. Constraining the viscoelastic layers increases the amount of dissipated energy and the bending stiffness of the structure without considerable change of the weight.
A thin shell theory in conjunction with the Donell assumptions is employed for the shell and the constraining layer (CL) and the first order shear deformation theory (FSDT) is used for the viscoelastic layer to construct the model. The effects of rotary inertia and shear...

    Linear Hardening in FCC Alloys

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Hamdi, Farzad (Author) ; Asgari, Sirous (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Previous observation and models on the origin of linear hardening behavior in FCC polycrystals are critically reviewed. To reveal the draw backs of the previous models, selected results of an investigation on the evolution of microstructure during simple compression testing of two FCC polycrystals, Inconel 625 superalloy and AISI 316L stainless steel are reported. It is found that while a number of FCC polycrystals show linear hardening behavior, the evolution of the underlying microstructure may be quite different. It is argued that, in contrast to the current belief, deformation twinning may not be the sole cause of linear hardening in low SFE FCC polycrystals. It is suggested that only...

The mechanical and microstructural investigations on aluminum tubes which have been processed up to 5 passes shows that ultimate strength increases 1.7 times and sub-grains size reaches to 360 nm. Applying final...

Consistent Strain Energy Functions for Transversely Isotropic and Orthotropic Hyperelastic Materials

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Fereidoonnezhad, Behrouz (Author) ; Naghdabadi, Reza (Supervisor) ; Sohrabpour, Saeed (Supervisor) ; Arghavani, Jamal (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Process Variation is seen as statistical variations in leakage current and delay of transistors in nano-scale technologies. The amount of process variations increase as the size of transistors decrease by technology scaling such that those effects can be seen in frequency of MPSoC (Multi-Processor System-on-Chip) cores and their leakage power deviation. These variations cause the tasks duration and power consumption fluctuate in different processors in an MPSoC instance. Consequently, some chip instances of the same MPSoC may consume more time and power than their considered limitations. Hence considering the process variation is necessary and required for MPSoC optimization at different...

    Abstract
Several studies are already on severe plastic deformation of wrought and cast aluminum alloys. Among these studies, no evidence of applying severe plastic deformation on the structure of rheocast or rheoforgedaluminum alloy can be found. So, in this research A356 alloy with globular structure was achieved using electromagnetic stirring and rheoforging. The optimum condition of globular structure with high sphericity was achievedafter holding the produced structure in semi-solid state for 10 min. Then, the effect of severe plastic deformation on mechanical and microstructural properties of this alloy and cast alloy was studied. The results show that with applying 3 passes of multidirectional...
