  7. Abstract:
  8. Alavand Oil field is located 50 Km away from west of Siri Island and includes DPG and DPH platforms. The production from Alavand field started in 1998 and till now 11 wells have been totally drilled .Since a production peak in 2001, the oil production in Alvand field has decreased. Water cut is increasing and reservoir pressure is decreasing gradually. Considering poor reservoir characteristic of this reservoir, productivity indexes of wells are relatively low. In addition; natural depletion of reservoir caused the wells to be unable to flow naturally and either closed or produce periodically consequently. To increase production and extend the lifetime of Alvand field, it is decided to start an artificial lift project. Because of conditions and desired rates, gas lifting and Electrical Submersible Pumps (ESPs) has been evaluated to be the only two alternatives. The operator is looking at either a full field (11 wells) gas lift campaign or ESPs. For this study, prosper, subPump and pipesim soft wares have been adopted together. DPG-1 and DPH-1 wells have been chosen as pilot wells because of their production potential. For each of them, well construction model and rigorous gas lifting and ESP lifting design have been done separately. Moreover a comprehensive economical analysis is being performed for each option and the conclusion is made accordingly. Through consideration of the production profile, desired rate and advantages / disadvantages, gas lift and ESP considered to be the most suitable artificial lift methods on Alvand oil field. Both options give a large increase in production compared to the base case, but ESP is superior to gas lift in both DPG-1 and DPH-1. It is the reason to believe that the same difference would be seen in a full field artificial lift campaign. So from a production point of view the ESPs is by far the best choice. This study shows a significant result. Implementing ESP lifting on ALVAND oil field causes about 90 mmbbls oil recovery more during 19 years which is almost 4 billion dollars income for field owner with consideration of average 60 $ for each barrel oil
