  7. Abstract:
  8. In this research polypropylene/carbon nanotube nano composites were prepared via in situ polymerization using Bi-supported Ziegler-Natta catalytic systems. Magnesium etoxide and Multi wall carbon nanotubes(MWCNT) functionalized by hydroxyl groups were used as supports of catalyst. TiCl4 and TiBA were used as catalyst and co catalyst respectively. After defining the polymerization optimum conditions and considering its parameters constant, nano composites with different carbon nanotube contents were produced by changing the polymerization time. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) images certified very good dispersion of MWCNTs throughout polypropylene matrix. The thermal properties behavior of samples was examined using Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Thermo Gravimetric Analysis (TGA) tests. The crystallization temperature of nano composites significantly increased when carbon nanotube existed in polymeric matrix comparing with neat polypropylene, although there wasn’t seen any remarkable effect on melt temperature and crystallinity. Low amount of carbon nanotube in polypropylene matrix postponed the thermal decomposition. In high amount of filler because of carbon nanotube catalytic effect, the thermal stability decreased however still showed more stability rather than neat polypropylene. Rheological investigations on the prepared samples indicated considerable improvements in linear viscoelastic parameters such as storage modulus, loss modulus and complex viscosity along with increasing the carbon nanotube content. Also the effect of carbon nanotube amount on flow curves and power law index were investigated by steady shear flow measurements
