  5. Eight new chitin derivatives have been synthesized via SN2 reaction of primary and secondary amines with tosylchitin. The products were characterized using FTIR and 1H NMR spectroscopy. A degree of substitution ∼ 1 was achieved through this process. These materials are soluble in water at room temperature, which enable their further applications in the future. © 2007 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA
