    Chemometrics-assisted isotope ratio fingerprinting based on gas chromatography/combustion/isotope ratio mass spectrometry for saffron authentication

    Abstract
    In the present contribution, the capability of isotopic ratio mass spectrometry (IRMS) for saffron authentication and detection of four common plant-derived adulterants (marigold flower, safflower, rubia, and saffron style) was investigated. For this purpose, 62 authentic saffron samples were analyzed by elemental analyzer-IRMS (EA-IRMS) and gas chromatography-combustion-IRMS (GC-C-IRMS). In this regard, EA-IRMS and GC-C-IRMS isotope fingerprints of carbon-13 and nitrogen-15 isotopes of saffron components were provided and then analyzed by chemometric methods.     Lithium has two stable isotopes naturally including 6Li at 7.5% and 7Li at 92.5% relative abundance. In spite of the similarities of lithium isotopes in common chemical reactions, they have some completely distinctive behaviors in nuclear reactions. 6Li has considerable neutron cross section capturing in thermal neutron range about 945 barns while this feature for 7Li is insignificant about 0.037 barns.     To exert the optimum effect, the chemical exchange process to boron isotope separation was investigated. In this enrichment method the distillation of dimethyl ether-boron trifluoride complex, which was one of the most efficient industrial methods for purification of isotope boron-10, was optimized.     A pair of copper vapor lasers in an oscillator-amplifier configuration were used to investigate the temperature dependence of the small-signal gain and saturation intensity and output power of the laser at the 510.6 and 578.2 nm transitions individually.     Abstract
    The analytical evaluation of the capability of Bremsstrahlung highly directional energetic γ-beam to induce photo transmutation of 90Sr (γ,n) 89Sr is presented. Photo transmutation of hazardous nuclear waste of 90Sr, one of the two main sources of heat and radioactivity in spent fuel into valuable nuclear medicine radioisotope of 89Sr is explained. Based on the calculations, a fairly decent fraction of gamma rays in this range are used in transmuting of 90Sr into 89Sr where according to the available experimental data it is shown that by irradiating a 1-cm thick 90Sr sample with lasers of intensity of 1021 W/cm2 and repletion rate of 100Hz for an hour, the reaction activity would be 1.45...

    Lithium has 9 isotopes which two isotopes are stable and remaining isotopes are unstable and have half-life. Lithium stable isotopes include 6Li and 7Li that their abundance is 7.53% and 92.47% respectively.     The performance of a gas centrifuge that is used for isotopes separation is dependent on the gas flow inside it. In this study, for modeling the UF6 gas flow, an Implicit Coupled Density-Based (ICDB) solver, was developed in OpenFOAM. To validate the ICDB solver, the gas flow within the rotor in total reflux state was compared with the analytical solution obtained by Onsager model and the numerical solution obtained by the Fluent software.     Kinetics and mechanism of 4,4-dicyano-5-ethyl-1,5-heptadiene rearrangement reaction, a pericyclic type reaction, were studied with ab initio calculations in gas and solution phases. This reaction is one of the cope rearrangement in which secondary kinetic isotope effect is observed. Theoretical study on these reactions showed that probability of radicalic mechanism is inconsiderable and reaction proceeds through out a concerted mechanism with cyclic transition state.     The α-C-H bond dissociation energy (BDE) of phenylcyclopropane (1) was experimentally determined using Hess' law. An equilibrium acidity determination of 1 afforded ΔH°acid = 389.1 ± 0.8 kcal mol-1, and isotopic labeling established that the α-position of the three-membered ring is the favored deprotonation site.     UF6 gas flow in the total regions of a rotor with the radius of 0.1 m and the length of 1 m in axisymmetric and steady states was simulated using a new hybrid CFD-DSMC method in the OpenFOAM framework. Implicit coupled density-based scheme was performed for CFD method, and Variable Hard Sphere (VHS) and diffuse model were employed in DSMC method. Also, as an initial estimation, the local Knudsen number was applied to determine the interface location between the continuum-rarefied regions (r = 0.0855 m). Here, we have developed a rapid and simple method with high yield and without disturbing their optical properties for radiolabeling of gold rods with iodine-131 in order to track in vivo tissue uptake of GNRs after systemic administration by biodistribution analysis and γ-imaging.
