    Abstract
Titanium is a highly reactive metal with an inclination to compose with oxygen. In order to increase its corrosion resistance and application, therefore, a thin layer of titanium oxide is produced on the surface by chemical and electrochemical methods. In the present research, titanium has been anodized in 20 M of NaOH solution under potentiostatic conditions at constant voltages of 25 and 35 V. The microstructure of the anodic layers has been studied by the use of a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). The results indicated that the structure of the anodic layers is amorphous with low porosity and that thickness increases with an increase in anodizing voltage. The...

    Abstract
Tolyltriazole (TTA) is a well-defined corrosion inhibitor for copper and copper alloys. However, there is little literature about its corrosion inhibition performance for mild steels in corrosive environments. This paper studied the electrochemical behavior of TTA in 0.5 M HCl solutions. Also, the morphology and nature of TTA layers on the steel surface were investigated. Electrochemical results showed that TTA is an excellent corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in acidic media with an efficiency of 91% for 0.07 M concentration. The results also indicated that TTA is a mixed-type inhibitor. XRD analysis revealed that the inhibition mechanism of TTA is based on the formation of an organic film...

    Abstract
Electrochemical potential noise analysis was used to investigate corrosion behavior of copper electrodes in presence of 0.001, 0.005, 0.01 and 0.02 M benzotriazole (BTA) inhibitor. Energy distribution of the potential noise was obtained from wavelet transformation using the 4th order Daubechies pattern. Two lowest frequencies were added-up and fitted to the impulse response of the first order circuit to achieve the time-constant vs. concentration (T-C) diagram. T-C diagram can be used either as a conventional diagram of inhibition efficiency or a tool for evaluation of the surface film dielectric constant. The assumptions made in this treatment were confirmed by EIS method. © 2009 Elsevier...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Kashefi, Saeed (Author) ; Soltanieh, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Shaygan Salek, Jalaloddin (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Regarding decreasing resources of fossil fuels and their increasing costs in addition to their environmental pollutions, today, producing bio fuels from wastes such as lignocellulosic materials is of great interest. A fundamental stage in conversion of lignocellulosic materials into bio fuels, such as bio ethanol, is the enzymatic hydrolysis of these materials to produce reducing sugars. Researches have shown high costs of this stage. Optimization of enzymatic hydrolysisconditions is a major step in economization of this process. In this work corn hull is used to produce glucose. Corn hull is a kind of lignocellulosic material that due to high carbohydrate content is used as substrate. Our...

Investigation of Novel Bioorthogonal Chemical Reactions on Proteins and Amyloid Formation

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rezaei, Mohsen (Author) ; Kalhor, Hamid Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Bioorthogonal chemistry defines any reaction, inside or outside the living systems, without interfering with native chemical processes and 3dimensional structure of proteins. In these types of reactions water is the sole solvent; a neutral pH is required; the temperature must be up to 40 oC. The kinetics of reactions must be on the hour scale and the nontoxic reagents with low concentration must be used. One of the simplest methods of visualizing protein molecule is covalent attachment of fluorescein to protein. In this work several fluorescent compounds were synthesized. These novel compounds include acylchloride fluorescein, N-hydroxysuccinimide fluorescein, thiophenol fluorescein, and...

    Abstract
Conformational diseases have been investigated extensively in recent years; as a result, a number of drug candidates have been introduced as amyloid inhibitors; however, no effective therapies have been put forward. RS-0406 with pyridazine as its core chemical structure has so far shown promising results in inhibiting amyloid formation. In the present work, using molecular dynamics, we undertook the investigation of RS-0406 interactions with U-shaped Aβ1−42 and Aβ1−40 pentamers, Aβ1−42 monomers, and double-horseshoe-like Aβ1−42. To set better parameters for the small molecule, experimental and computational log P values were obtained. In addition, an analogue of RS-0406 was also simulated...

    Abstract
Ab initio quantum chemical calculations at the density functional theory (DFT) level were performed on eight pyridine derivative molecules as corrosion inhibitors for iron in an acidic solution. In this regard, the geometry of the molecules were optimized using the B3LYP/6-31G method first, and then interactions of these optimized structures with the iron atom were explored using the B3LYP/LANL1MB method. Two modes of adsorption were considered, i.e., planar adsorption (P) via the pyridine ring and vertical adsorption (V) through a nitrogen atom. The interaction energy was minimized through the variation of the inhibitor molecule-iron atom distance. These minimum energy values, along with...

    Abstract
This paper presents a new method for spectrophotometirc detection of sulfide applying fungal peroxidase immobilized on sodium alginate. The sensing scheme was based on decrease of the absorbance of the orange compound, purpurogallin produced from pyrogallol and H2O2 as substrates, due to the inhibition of peroxidase by sulfide. Absorbance of purpurogallin was detected at 420nm by using a spectrophotometer. The proposed method could successfully detect the sulfide in the concentration range of 0.6-7.0μM with a detection limit of 0.4μM. The kinetic parameters of Michaelis-Menten with and without sulfide were also calculated. Possible inhibition mechanism of peroxidase by sulfide was deduced...
