    , Article International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology ; Volume 55, Issue 5-8 , 2011 , Pages 649-656 ; 02683768 (ISSN) Ranjbarnodeh, E ; Serajzadeh, S ; Hosein Kokabi, A ; Hanke, S ; Fischer, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
In the present study, a thermo-elastic-plastic model was developed in order to evaluate the residual stresses in dissimilar automatic tungsten inert gas (TIG) welds between plain carbon steel CK4 and a ferritic stainless steel AISI409. The effect of welding heat input on the magnitude and the distribution of residual stresses was investigated and the results of simulation were validated by X-ray diffraction measurements. It is shown that the calculated residual stresses are in good agreement with the residual stresses determined experimentally. It was found that the magnitudes of stresses at the weld center line increases with increasing the welding speed

Zinc-stearate-layered hydroxide nanohybrid material as a precursor to produce carbon nanoparticles

    , Article Journal of Alloys and Compounds ; Volume 509, Issue 5 , February , 2011 , Pages 2441-2444 ; 09258388 (ISSN) Ghotbi, M. Y ; Bagheri, N ; Sadrnezhaad, S.K ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
Zinc-stearate-layered hydroxide nanohybrid was prepared using stearate anion as an organic guest, and zinc layered hydroxide nitrate, as a layered inorganic host by the ion-exchange method. Powder X-ray diffraction patterns and Fourier transform infrared results indicated that the stearate anion was actually intercalated into the interlayer of zinc layered hydroxide nitrate and confirmed the formation of the host-guest nanohybrid material. Also, surface properties data showed that the intercalation process has changed the porosity for the as-prepared nanohybrid material in comparison with that of the parent material, zinc hydroxide nitrate. The nanohybrid material was heat-treated at 600 °C...

    Abstract
A simple sonochemical method was developed to synthesis uniform sphere-like Co3O4 and Mn3O4 nanocrystals. Epoxidation of styrene and cyclooctene by anhydrous tert-butyl hydroperoxide over the prepared Co3O4 and Mn3O4 nanocatalysts was investigated. The results of conversion activity were compared with bulk Co3O4 and Mn3O4. Under optimized reaction conditions, the nanocatalysts showed a superior catalytic performance as compared to the bulk catalysts. Powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and BET surface area, were used to characterize and investigate the nanocatalysts

    Abstract
A manganese(II) complex of 2,4,6-tris(2-pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine (tptz) has been synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analyses, IR, and UV-Vis spectroscopic techniques. Oxidation of alcohols to their corresponding aldehydes and ketones was conducted by this catalyst using oxone (2KHSO5KH-SO4K2SO4) as an oxidant under biphasic reaction conditions (CH2Cl2/H 2O) and tetra-n-butylammonium bromide as phase transfer agent under air at room temperature. Easy preparation, mild reaction conditions, high yields of the products, short reaction times, no further oxidation to the corresponding carboxylic acids, high selectivity and inexpensive reagents make this...

    Abstract
Herein, we describe for the first time synthesis, characterization, chemosenor behavior, and mechanism of metal ion-ligand interaction of two novel side-armed naphthodiaza-crown macrocycles (L1 and L2) by employing of IR, 1H and 13C NMR, UV–vis, fluorescence spectroscopy, CHN microanalysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Preliminary fluorescence studies in ethanol as solvent revealed that the metal ion recognition by L1 was strongly different from L2 suggesting the importance of the number of benzylic side-arms on the extent of the interaction with Mn+. For instance employing fluorescence titration in ethanol showed binding constant values 105 M−1 and 2.6×106 M−1 for L1/Al3+ and...

Experimental investigation and crystal plasticity-based prediction of AA1050 sheet formability

    , Article Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part B: Journal of Engineering Manufacture ; Volume 231, Issue 8 , 2017 , Pages 1341-1349 ; 09544054 (ISSN) Hajian, M ; Assempour, A ; Akbarzadeh, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    SAGE Publications Ltd  2017
    Abstract
This article presents a crystal plasticity methodology to evaluate the AA1050 sheet formability. In order to determine the orientation distribution of the crystals, initial texture of the material is measured through X-ray diffraction technique. Also, the stress-strain behavior of the material is determined by performing tensile test. In order to simulate the path-dependent crystal plasticity behavior of body-centered cubic crystal structures, a UMAT subroutine that employs the rate-dependent crystal plasticity model along with the power law hardening was developed previously by the authors and linked to the finite element software ABAQUS. This subroutine was further developed to simulate...

    Abstract
A new and effective hot milling system was designed and applied to the synthesis of PbZr0.95Ti0.05O3 (PZT) powder. PbO, ZrO2 and TiO2 powders were used as starting materials and hot milled at various temperatures ranging from 10 ̊°C to 800 ̊°C. The obtained powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Results indicated that pure, crystalline, and fine PZT powders with the average particle size of 170 nm can be successfully synthesized directly after a relatively short synthesis time of 12 h at lower temperature of 800 ̊°C by the hot milling technique. In contrast to this method, this study demonstrates that conventional solid-state...

    Abstract
Abstract: The effect of annealing temperature on the properties of silver thin films has been investigated. Ag thin films have been deposited on glass substrates by electron beam coating, afterward subjected to annealing in a mixed ambient of air and oxygen at 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500°C for 3 h and then cooled slowly. The crystallographic structures of the Ag thin films were studied as a function of the annealing temperature. X‑ray diffraction (XRD) was used to estimate the crystallographic texture and grain size. All the films were found to have crystalline structure. The film microstructures were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The XRD and SEM results confirmed the...

Gas barrier properties of PP/EPDM blend nanocomposites

    , Article Journal of Membrane Science ; Volume 282, Issue 1-2 , 2006 , Pages 142-148 ; 03767388 (ISSN) Frounchi, M ; Dadbin, S ; Salehpour, Z ; Noferesti, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2006
    Abstract
Nanocomposites of polypropylene (PP)/ethylene-propylene-diene rubber (EPDM) blend with montmorillonite-based organoclay were prepared in a solvent blending method. Solvent blending of PP and EPDM in a composition of 50:50 formed a two phase morphology in which EPDM appeared as dispersed phase with irregular shape. The size of dispersed phase reduced significantly to almost spherical domains by addition of the nanoclay. For better dispersion of nanoclay in the PP/EPDM blend, an antioxidant was used as compatibilizer. State of nanoclay dispersion was evaluated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), and also, by a novel method using permeability measurements data in a permeability model. The measured...

The standard mechanical tests, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis were performed on the specimens. The results indicated that including the MWCNTs and GP increases the compressive strength by 10 % and 20 % and similarly improves the tensile...
