Hardware implementation of an ADRC controller on a gimbal mechanism

, Article IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology ; 2017 ; 10636536 (ISSN) Ahi, B ; Nobakhti, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) is applied to a one-axis gimbal mechanism. The dynamic model of the system is derived and validated from mathematical modeling and practical experiments. Disturbances acting on the complete model of the gimbal mechanism are introduced via base lateral acceleration and angular motion. The ADRC is designed by utilizing an extended state observer for observing and suppressing the effects of external disturbances and internal parameter uncertainties. A PID controller is used to form a basis of comparison for set-point tracking and disturbance rejection performance. The effects of identification errors and observer bandwidth are experimentally...

    Abstract
The modulation transfer function (MTF) is well known as a crucial parameter in quality assurance of computed tomography (CT) scanners, which provides detailed information of both contrast and resolution of CT images. Different methods have been introduced and developed to calculate the MTF of CT scanners. However, a robust methodology which accurately estimates the MTF of CT scanners under the use of every range of object electron density and tube current-time product (mAs) has not been reported so far. To this aim, a new wavelet-based circular edge method for MTF measurement has been presented in this work. Owning to the edge spread function (ESF) susceptibility to noise, the approach was...

    Abstract
A switched capacitor circuit frequently appears in literature in form of sample and hold or master-slave sampling filter. We call this block Sample and Hold Master-Slave Sampling Filter (SH-MSSF). Considering the time varying nature of this circuit it is difficult to predict its behavior, though it looks like a very simple circuit. So there exists no formula describing its function in all of its applications. In this brief, we present a closed-form transfer function, explaining the operation of SH-MSSF, based on state-space analysis. Then by interpolating an infinite number of such transfer functions a continuous-time formula is derived that can exactly model the behavior of this (Linear...

Equivalent Static Analysis of fixed Offshore Platformes Under Fatigue Loads (Analyzing different failure scenarios)

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Akrami, Vahid (Author) ; Golafshani, Ali Akbar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
A structural system will normally fail as a result of a chain of failures of different components. In this thesis, fatigue reliability of fixed offshore platforms is investigated through analyzing different failure scenarios. In order to evaluate the occurrence probability of a special scenario, each failure scenario is divided into a finite number of sub-scenarios. To do this, all combinations of time sequences are generated for a given sequence of failures, using a specially developed program.
In order to calculate the occurrence probability of each scenario, a massive reliability analysis should be done for each of corresponding sub-scenarios. Knowing that there are a large number of...

Dual Porosity Modeling of Oil-Gas Systems under the Effects of Gravity and Capillary Forces

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Taraki, Fateme (Author) ; Taghizadeh Manzari, Mehrdad (Supervisor) ; Shamloo, Amir (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, two types of two-phase flow are studied in one dimension. The first type is oil-gas two-phase flow which is miscible and compressible. The second one is oil-water two-phase flow which is immiscible and incompressible. Oil wet and water wet conditions are studied in the second type of flow. Two approaches, i.e. double porosity and double porosity-double permeability, are used to study naturally fractured reservoirs. In these approaches, the matrix and fracture are modeled as two separate media that exchange mass via a transfer function. Black oil model is applied to simulate the fluid system. The governing equations consist of the conservation of mass equations for each...

Evaluations are performed in two seperate parts. in the first part, geometry, boundary conditions and initial conditions which important models of transfer functions were calculated are provided by using discrete fracture model and results are compared with results of corresponding reference. Following...

Dynamic Model Identification of a Fixed wing UAV with Canard Configuration to Evaluate Handling Qualities

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Panjshanbeh Talemi, Ali (Author) ; Banazadeh, Afshin (Supervisor) ; Nobahari, Hadi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, an identified dynamic model of a fixed wing UAV, known as WAYO, is presented. To do so, frequency domain system identification technique is utilized. Due to physical and environmental constraints, it was impossible to carry out precise flight tests of the aircraft in all flight phases. Instead, a small-sized UAV, called Twin Star-BL was selected to carry out the tests and to validate the simulation model. In both cases (WAYO and Twin Star-BL) transfer functions were obtained using frequency responses and employing extensive identification process. Identified models were then assessed using time domain data for different test records. Finally, handling qualities of both aerial...

Design and Development of a 5DoF Table Top Platform for Aircraft Dynamic Identification

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Abdollahi, Mohammad Reza (Author) ; Pourtakdoust, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Experimental identification (EI) of aircraft static and dynamic characteristics is usually performed for design process verification, its compliance against the existing regulations as well as to extraction of its exact stability and performance characteristics. EI is mostly performed via flight and/or wind tunnel testing of a scaled model of the aircraft under scrutiny. In this regard, the purpose of this thesis is design and development of a 5DoF Table Top Platform (TTP) for Aircraft transfer function identifications as well as some of its key derivatives. The proposed TTP can also function as the motion part of a miniature simulator. The PPT is designed in two parts that is comprised of...

Dynamic Simulation of Divided Wall Columns and Investigating Their Control Strategies

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ghoreishi Mohammadi, Aref (Author) ; Shahrokhi, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Vafa, Ehsan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Because of lower energy consumption and lower capital cost, divided wall columns attracted wide attention. The main challenge of these units is their controllability. In this thesis dynamic simulation and control of a divided wall column is investigated and an adaptive model predictive controller has been used for control purpose. For dynamic simulation the Aspen Dynamics software and for applying control strategy the MATLAB software have been utilized. The model used for model predictive controller has been obtained by using open loop responses of the system. The main advantage of presented work over the existing ones is using the input-output transfer function of the system model instead...

A Novel Discrete Model Proposal for Analysis of Soil-Structure Systems in Time Domain

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khodabakhshi, Parisa (Author) ; Ghannaad, Mohammad Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Soil-structure interaction may have a considerable effect on the response of the superstructure. One of the main steps in analyzing the soil-structure system is determining the soil impedances which vary with frequency. Although it is possible to analyze a dynamic system with complex frequency-dependent property matrices, this cannot be taken into account in most standard general-purpose softwares. In addition, the nonlinear behaviour of the structure can only be studied in time domain. Therefore, in the past two decades efforts have been made to replace the soil media with discrete models having a small number of degrees of freedom (DOFs) and a few springs, dashpots and masses with...

Comparison of Transfer Functions in Dual Porosity-Dual Permeability Models in Simulation of 3D Black-Oil Naturally Fractured Reservoirs Using Structured Grids

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohammadnejad, Hamed (Author) ; Taghizadeh Manzari, Mehrdad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this work, simulation of 3D three-phase naturally fractured reservoirs is studied. Both Dual Porosity and Dual Porosity-Dual Permeability models which are commonly used in commercial softwares such as ECLIPSE and CMG, are utilized. The governing equations include the mass (in Black-oil model) and linear momentum (in Darcy law form) equations, which are converted into pressure equations and a set of transport equations for the saturations and mole fractions of phases. These equations are solved once for the matrix domain and subsequently for the fracture domain. These two set of equations are coupled through transfer functions. The accuracy of computations significantly depends on how...

    Abstract
The primary purpose of the present thesis is to understand the dynamic behavior of partially premixed flames of counterflow burners. In this project, work has been done on the previously designed and built counterflow burner. By setting up partially premixed flames in this burner, acoustic excitation of these flames has been done, and finally data acquisition by taking video of the flame and then using image processing to extract the dynamic response of these flames. The flames that we have examined in this project are all in a laminar regime and the fuel used in these flames is also natural gas. The frequencies that we have examined in these flames are 25 and 40 Hz, and these tests were...

    Abstract
In this paper, we propose a hybrid algorithm including Genetic Algorithm (GA), Ant Colony Optimisation (ACO), and Simulated Annealing (SA) metaheuristics for increasing the contrast of images. In this way, contrast enhancement is obtained by global transformation of the input intensities. Ant colony optimisation is used to generate the transfer functions which map the input intensities to the output intensities. Simulated annealing as a local search method is utilised to modify the transfer functions generated by ant colony optimisation. And genetic algorithm has the responsibility of evolutionary process of antsE characteristics. The employed fitness function operates automatically and...

    Abstract
Aims. With the aim of characterizing the flux and color variations of the multiple components of the gravitationally lensed quasar UM673 as a function of time, we have performed multiepoch and multiband photometric observations with the Danish telescope at the La Silla Observatory. Methods. The observations were carried out in the VRi spectral bands during four seasons (2008-2011). We reduced the data using the point spread function photometric technique as well as aperture photometry. Results. Our results show for the brightest lensed component some significant decrease in flux between the first two seasons (+ 0.09/+ 0.11/+ 0.05 mag) and a subsequent increase during the following ones (-...

    Elsevier Ltd  2015
    Abstract
Analysis of thermal-hydraulics fluctuations in pressurized water reactors (e.g., local and global temperature or density fluctuations, as well as primary and charging pumps fluctuations) has various applications in calculation or measurement of the core dynamical parameters (temperature or density reactivity coefficients) in addition to thermal-hydraulics surveillance and diagnostics. In this paper, the thermal-hydraulics fluctuations in PWRs are investigated. At first, the single-phase thermal-hydraulics noise equations (in the frequency domain) are originally derived, without any simplifying assumptions. The fluctuations of all the coolant parameters, as well as the radial distribution of...

Improved unity-STF sturdy MASH ΣΔ modulator for low-power wideband applications

    , Article Electronics Letters ; Volume 51, Issue 23 , November , 2015 , Pages 1941-1942 ; 00135194 (ISSN) Taghizadeh, M ; Sadughi, S ; Sharif University of Technology
Institution of Engineering and Technology  2015
    Abstract
A novel sturdy multi-stage noise-shaping sigma-delta modulator that cancels the first-stage quantisation error at the output of the modulator is presented. Since any stage of the modulator has unity signal transfer function, the modulator would be very robust to circuit non-idealities such as finite op-amp gain. Furthermore, the signal processing timing issue in the critical paths of the proposed topology has been relaxed due to shifting the delay of the last integrator to the feedback path of the modulator. Moreover, this topology can be implemented in the circuit level by a fewer active blocks. Therefore, it practically would be suitable for low-voltage and low-oversampling applications....

Effect of direct coupling of microrings on the gain bandwidth of cascade microring Raman amplifier

    , Article Optics Communications ; Volume 283, Issue 14 , Jan , 2010 , Pages 2939-2946 ; 00304018 (ISSN) Bahrampour, A. R ; Bazouband, F ; Nickfarjam, V ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
A combination of coupled microrings that are coupled to a bus waveguide is proposed as a wide-band microring Raman amplifier. This structure is called one channel coupled microrings (OCCM) Raman amplifier. It is shown analytically that the number of poles in the OCCM transfer function is greater than the square of microrings number (N). The gain bandwidth and gain ripple of the proposed amplifier are increased and decreased, respectively due to increasing the number of poles and zeros in the transfer function. An iterative matrix method is introduced to solve Raman equations in the amplifier with arbitrary number of microrings and Genetic algorithm is employed to maximize the gain flatness

A universal formula for generalized cardinal B-splines

    , Article Applied and Computational Harmonic Analysis ; 2016 ; 10635203 (ISSN) Amini, A ; Madani, R ; Unser, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Academic Press Inc
    Abstract
We introduce a universal and systematic way of defining a generalized B-spline based on a linear shift-invariant (LSI) operator L (a.k.a. Fourier multiplier). The generic form of the B-spline is . βL=LdL-1δ where . L-1δ is the Green's function of L and where . Ld is the discretized version of the operator that has the smallest-possible null space. The cornerstone of our approach is a main construction of . Ld in the form of an infinite product that is motivated by Weierstrass' factorization of entire functions. We show that the resulting Fourier-domain expression is compatible with the construction of all known B-splines. In the special case where L is the derivative operator (linked with...
