Relations Between Dynamical Systems And Knot Theory

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Madani, Meysam (Author) ; Fanaii, Hamid Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In fact knot theory is working by an elastic string. A knot is A smooth embedding of in . We say that two knots are equivalent if there is an ambient isotopic between them. In knot theory we study equivalent classes of knots. As it seems from its name, a dynamical system is the study of motions, mechanics and dynamics of a system. We will observe some systems and stability of orbits in theme. Then we define templates which contain orbits in themselves. At last, we observe relations between discrete dynamical systems and knot theory. Then for any arbitrary chaotic knot we observe that there exist an universal template that contain a copy of any kind of not. Finally we will study some open...

Non-isothermal Annealing of Severly Deformed Aluminum Alloy 2024

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Khani Moghanaki, Saeed (Author) ; Kazeminezhad, Mohsen (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this study, non-isothermal annealing of multi-directionally forged (MDF) aluminum alloy 2024 has been investigated. Two initial heat treatments have been considered, the solution treated (without S′/S (Al2CuMg)) and the over-aged (with S′/S (Al2CuMg)) conditions. DSC curves have shown that GPB zones/Cu-Mg co-clusters have been dynamically formed during MDF. This dynamic formation of these meta-stable phases has been modeled and in the presented model volume fraction of meta-stable phases has been calculated and its effect on the dislocation density has been considered. Although, hardness of solution treated sample has been increased by two-fold after MDF, hardness of over-aged sample has...

Unsupervised estimation of conceptual classes for semantic image annotation

    , Article 2011 19th Iranian Conference on Electrical Engineering, ICEE 2011, 17 May 2011 through 19 May 2011 ; May , 2011 ; 9789644634284 (ISBN) Teimoori, F ; Esmaili, H ; Shirazi, A. A. B ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
A probabilistic formulation for semantic image annotation and retrieval is proposed. Annotation and retrieval are posed as classification problems where each class is defined as the group of database images labeled with a common semantic label. It is shown that, by establishing this one-to-one correspondence between semantic labels and semantic classes, a minimum probability of error annotation and retrieval are feasible with algorithms that are 1) conceptually simple and 2) computationally efficient. In this article, a content-based image retrieval and annotation architecture is proposed. Its attitude is decreasing the semantic gap by partitioning the image to its semantic regions and using...

    Topological spin-plasma waves

    , Article Physical Review B ; Volume 104, Issue 7 , 2021 ; 24699950 (ISSN) Efimkin, D. K ; Kargarian, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The surface of a topological insulator hosts Dirac electronic states with the spin-momentum locking, which constrains spin orientation perpendicular to electron momentum. As a result, collective plasma excitations in the interacting Dirac liquid manifest themselves as coupled charge- and spin-waves. Here we demonstrate that the presence of the spin component enables effective coupling between plasma waves and spin waves at interfaces between the surface of a topological insulator and insulating magnet. Moreover, the helical nature of spin-momentum locking textures provides the phase winding in the coupling between the spin and plasma waves that makes the spectrum of hybridized spin-plasma...

    Abstract
The thermal field and the grain structure of a cored superalloy turbine blade, which has been directionally solidified with the liquid metal cooling (LMC) process, has been simulated in three dimensions using a cellular automaton (CA) coupled with finite-element (CAFE) model. The cooling induced by the liquid aluminum bath has been replaced by a heat-transfer coefficient, whose temperature- and time-dependence has been adjusted on the basis of natural convection simulations and dimensionless analyses. The simulated grain structure and crystallographic texture have been compared with the microstructure, and the electron back-scattered diffraction (EBSD) results were obtained for a real blade....

    Abstract
The accumulative roll bonding process was carried out on an AA3003 aluminum alloy sheet up to eight cycles. The electron backscattering diffraction (EBSD) method was employed to investigate the microtextural development in the ARB processed sheets. The results indicate that with increasing the number of cycles, the overall texture intensity increases even up to the eighth rolling pass and a strong texture develops. The main textural components are the copper and Dillamore components of which the intensities increase with increasing number of cycles. Measurement of microhardness and lamellar spacing of grains in the processed sheets revealed that the presence of second phase particles in this...

    Abstract
In this work, examinations on the microstructure and mechanical properties of plain carbon steel and AISI 430 ferritic stainless steel dissimilar welds are carried out. Welding is conducted in both autogenous and using ER309L austenitic filler rod conditions through gas tungsten arc welding process. The results indicate that fully-ferritic and duplex ferritic-martensitic microstructures are formed for autogenous and filler-added welds, respectively. Carbide precipitation and formation of martensite at ferrite grain boundaries (intergranular martensite) as well as grain growth occur in the heat affected zone (HAZ) of AISI 430 steel. It is found that weld heat input can strongly affect grain...

    Structure and texture image inpainting

    , Article Proceedings of the 2010 International Conference on Signal and Image Processing, ICSIP 2010, 15 December 2010 through 17 December 2010 ; 2010 , Pages 119-124 ; 9781424485949 (ISBN) Hesabi, S ; Jamzad, M ; Mahdavi Amiri, N ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Inpainting refers to the task of filling in the missing or damaged regions of an image in an undetectable manner. We have an image to be reconstructed in a user-defined region. We use a fast decomposition method to obtain two components of the image, namely structure and texture. Reconstruction of each component is performed separately. The missing information in the structure component is reconstructed using a structure inpainting algorithm, while the texture component is repaired by a texture synthesis technique. To obtain the inpainted image, the two reconstructed components are composed together. Taking advantage of both the structure inpainting methods and texture synthesis techniques,...

    Abstract
Gas flooding is a practical secondary scenario for enhanced oil recovery. Channeling and fingering of the injected gas are the major problems facing this technique. These challenges can be mitigated by the injection of gas as foam. However, foam stability influences the overall efficiency of the process, which could be improved by nanoparticles (NPs). This work provides a theoretical and experimental analysis of the NPs wettability effects on foam behavior, in both static and dynamic states. The treated calcite (CaCO3) NPs along with a cationic surfactant (HTAB) were used for this purpose. By comparison of theoretical and experimental data, it was shown that the foam stability in the...

Skin segmentation based on cellular learning automata

    , Article 6th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing and Multimedia, MoMM2008, Linz, 24 November 2008 through 26 November 2008 ; November , 2008 , Pages 254-259 ; 9781605582696 (ISBN) Abin, Ahmad Ali ; Fotouhi, M ; Kasaei, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm that combines color and texture information of skin with cellular learning automata to segment skin-like regions in color images. First, the presence of skin colors in an image is detected, using a committee structure, to make decision from several explicit boundary skin models. Detected skin-color regions are then fed to a color texture extractor that extracts the texture features of skin regions via their color statistical properties and maps them to a skin probability map. Cellular learning automatons use this map to make decision on skin-like regions. The proposed algorithm has demonstrated true positive rate of about 83.4% and false positive...

Skin detection using contourlet texture analysis

    , Article 2009 14th International CSI Computer Conference, CSICC 2009, 20 October 2009 through 21 October 2009, Tehran ; 2009 , Pages 367-372 ; 9781424442621 (ISBN) Fotouhi, M ; Rohban, M. H ; Kasaei, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
A combined texture- and color-based skin detection is proposed in this paper. Nonsubsampled contourlet transform is used to represent texture of the whole image. Local neighbor contourlet coefficients of a pixel are used as feature vectors to classify each pixel. Dimensionality reduction is addressed through principal component analysis (PCA) to remedy the curse of dimensionality in the training phase. Before texture classification, the pixel is tested to determine whether it is skin-colored. Therefore, the classifier is learned to discriminate skin and non-skin texture for skin colored regions. A multi-layer perceptron is then trained using the feature vectors in the PCA reduced space. The...

    Abstract
Detection of skin pixels in arbitrary images is addressed in this paper. We have combined texture and color information to segment skin regions. First, a pixel-based boosted skin detection method is used to locate skin pixels. To further improve the detect performance, skin region texture features are employed using the nonsubsampled contourlet coefficients. For the candidate skin pixels, the set of 8×8 patches around that pixel in all subimages are selected and the feature vector of each patch is extracted. Multilayer perceptron is then utilized to learn features and classify any given input sample. The proposed algorithm has achieved true positive rate of about 82.8% and false positive...

    Abstract
In this work, we have studied single-texture formation of CoSi2 layer in heat-treated Co/Ta0.7W0.3/Si(100) structure. Moreover, self-encapsulation process of the CoSi2 layer and surface roughness of the encapsulated layer, as a contact layer, has been examined. A direct current magnetron co-sputtering technique was employed to deposit a 10 nm Ta0.7W0.3 alloy intermediate layer. After growth of the layer on the Si substrate, a 25 nm Co layer was deposited using thermal evaporation method. Post-annealing process of the films was treated in an N2(80%) + H2(20%) ambient in a temperature range from 400 to 1000 °C for 60 min. X-ray diffraction analysis showed that a single-texture CoSi2 layer with...
