    Abstract
Feature vector extraction, based on local image texture, is a primitive algorithm for many other applications, like segmentation, clustering and identification. If these feature vectors are a good match to the human visual system (HVS), we can expect to get the appropriate results by using them. Gabor filters has been used for this purpose successfully. In this paper we introduce a novel refinement, with the use of Matching Pursuit (MP) to improve the Gabor based texture feature extractor. With this improvement, we show that the separability of different textures will increase. Another consideration in this work is computation complexity. Therefore, we limit the basis function set to reduce...

    Abstract
Optimized conditions of hot and cold rolling followed by annealing can result in a balance between recrystallization and rolling textures in order to reduce the planar anisotropy of brass sheets. In this work, the effect of finish rolling temperature, cold reduction and annealing temperature on texture development has been investigated. It is shown that uniform deformation at higher finishing temperature is responsible of formation of a severe Cube and G texture components. In contrast, mechanical twinnings are widely formed at low finishing temperatures. There is also a direct relation between the intensity of Cube component and the amount of cold reduction

Development of cold rolling and intercritical annealing texture in two TRIP-aided steels

    , Article 14th International Conference on Textures of Materials, ICOTOM 14, Leuven, 11 July 2005 through 15 July 2005 ; Volume 495-497, Issue PART 1 , 2005 , Pages 513-518 ; 02555476 (ISSN); 087849975X (ISBN); 9780878499755 (ISBN) Emadodin, E ; Akbarzadeh, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
High strength TRIP-aided steel sheets with high formability and better ductility are of industrial interest. Texture control and retained austenite characterization are considered as the main factors with respect to the formability and ductility. In this work, the effect of cold rolling and intercritical annealing on texture development has been investigated for two TRTP-aided steel sheets, which are different in Si and Al content. Experiments show that the cold rolling extends the a and γ-fibers on these grades of steel. Intercretically annealing decreases the intensity of α-fiber and leads to sharpness of γ-fiber, especially for Al steel

    Abstract
The thermal field and the grain structure of a cored superalloy turbine blade, which has been directionally solidified with the liquid metal cooling (LMC) process, has been simulated in three dimensions using a cellular automaton (CA) coupled with finite-element (CAFE) model. The cooling induced by the liquid aluminum bath has been replaced by a heat-transfer coefficient, whose temperature- and time-dependence has been adjusted on the basis of natural convection simulations and dimensionless analyses. The simulated grain structure and crystallographic texture have been compared with the microstructure, and the electron back-scattered diffraction (EBSD) results were obtained for a real blade....

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Dabbaghian, Mohammad Ali (Author) ; Karimi Taheri, Ali (Supervisor) ; Serajzadeh, Siamak (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The precipitation hardenable 7075 Aluminum Alloy is one of the most important heat-treated aluminum alloys. The high strength of this alloy has led to its widespread use in the manufacture of various components in the automotive, aerospace, marine, defense and military industries. Although the production costs of this alloy sheet are high, but since the 7075 aluminum alloy has the capacity to be as strong as steels, by reducing the production process and thus reducing production costs, this alloy can be used more widely in various industries. Therefore, in this study, the mechanical properties of the 7075 aluminum sheet are improved by a new quenching method in the die (HFDQ), which is a...

    Abstract
The effects of zinc content (2 and 4 wt%), heat treatment (solution-Treated and T6), as well as hot deformation (extrusion and multi-directional forging (MDF)) on the microstructure, mechanical and degradation behavior of Mg-Zn alloys were studied. As the result of microstructure refinement, solid solution and precipitate strengthening (formation of MgZn second phases), the strength of pure Mg was increased after Zn addition. Solution treatment of the Mg-4Zn alloy resulted in 16% softening due to the dissolution of the MgZn second phases and also grain growth, while aging treatment increased the strength value by 8% in comparison to the as-cast material because of the formation of the fine...

    Abstract
Understanding the effect of crystallographic orientation on the twinnin/detwinning mechanisms in NiTi shape memory alloys at an atomistic scale can help to control and tune the mechanical properties and failure behavior of such materials. In this work, we employed classical molecular dynamics (MD) and density functional theory (DFT) computational methods to better understand how twinning and detwinning occurs through a combination of slip, twin, and shuffle on 〈0 1 0〉, 〈1 1 0〉, and 〈1 1 1〉 crystallographic orientations under uniaxial tensile test. Elastic constants including Young's Modulus (E), Bulk modulus (B), Poisson's ratio (ν), and Shear Modulus (G) are obtained and computed for...

Investigating the solid-state diffusion at the interface of Ni/Ti laminated composite

    , Article Journal of Manufacturing Processes ; Volume 75 , 2022 , Pages 670-681 ; 15266125 (ISSN) Luo, J ; Yarigarravesh, M ; Assari, A. H ; Amin, N. H ; Tayyebi, M ; Paidar, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The fabrication of Ni/Ti laminated composite via cross accumulative roll bonding (CARB) and subsequent annealing treatment has been studied. The relationships between annealing conditions and microstructure at interfaces of Ni/Ti have been investigated by SEM, XRD, and EDS analyses. The results show that the layers were well-bonded by the CARB process, and by increasing the temperature and time of annealing treatment, the interfacial layers grew as a result of the interdiffusion of Ni and Ti atoms. The main intermetallic phases were NiTi and NiTi2, both of which obeyed linear kinetics of growth. However, the calculated activation energy of NiTi was lower than that of NiTi2, indicating the...

    Abstract
Magnesium and its alloys have gained significant popularity due to their light weight and their potential for use as bioresorbable materials. However, their application is limited in practice due to their relatively poor corrosion resistance. Several methods are available for improving the corrosion resistance of Mg alloys for bio-applications such as using different coatings, alloying, and modifying the microstructural parameters such as the grain size and the crystallographic texture. This review provides a comprehensive summary of the effects of crystallographic texture and twinning, as one of the most important deformation mechanisms of Mg and Mg alloys, on the corrosion behavior....

    Abstract
The microstructure evaluation and phase transformation of multi-pass friction stir-processed (FSP) commercially pure titanium were investigated using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy equipped with a backscatter detector, and electron backscatter diffractometer. The microstructure characterization shows that the grain refinement mechanism changed with the increasing number of passes. The equiaxed α grains in the untreated sample changed to lath-shaped grains surrounded by serrated grain boundaries, and produced Widmanstätten morphology during the cooling cycle of FSP. The higher micro-hardness values and bio-corrosion resistances of the FSP-treated samples are due to their...
