    Deformation mode dependency of stable orientations: From plane strain compression to equibiaxial tension

    Abstract
    Prediction of stable orientations is a key subject in the crystal plasticity literature. This work deals with the effects of deformation mode on the resulted stable orientations and texture evolution of FCC materials. The simulations are based on the numerical procedure developed by the authors in previous works in which, a rate-sensitive crystal plasticity model with Secant hardening law was employed. The resulting non-linear system of equations is solved by the modified Newton-Raphson method.     Abstract
    Equal channel angular pressing is an effective technique to control the texture and microstructure of metals and alloys. Texture and microstructure of an Al-7075 alloy subjected to repetitive equal channel angular pressing through a 90° die were evaluated by X-ray diffractometer and orientation imaging microscopy. It is observed that processing through different routes leads to different types of textures, in both qualitative and quantitative senses. The texture calculation by Labotex software reveals that texture strengthens after the first pass and weakens by progressing ECAP process up to 4 passes.     This research aims to investigate the effect of pulsed Nd:YAG laser micro-welding on the microstructure, texture and magnetic properties of ultra-thin Fe-Co-7.15 wt% V magnetic alloy. Optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and electron backscattered diffraction techniques were used to study the microstructural evolutions. Also, vibrating sample magnetometry was used to characterize the magnetic properties. The results showed that the fractions of low Σ coincidence site lattice boundaries in the fusion zone are higher than those of the base metal.     Inpainting refers to the task of filling in the missing or damaged regions of an image in an undetectable manner. We have an image to be reconstructed in a user-defined region. We use a fast decomposition method to obtain two components of the image, namely structure and texture. Reconstruction of each component is performed separately. The missing information in the structure component is reconstructed using a structure inpainting algorithm, while the texture component is repaired by a texture synthesis technique.     In order to safe design and optimize performance of industrial systems which work under two phase flow conditions, it's often needed to categorize flow into different regimes. In present work the experiments of two phase flow were done in a large scale test facility with length of 6m and 5cm diameter. Four main flow regimes were observed in vertical air-water two phase flows at moderate superficial velocities of gas and water: Bubbly, Slug, Churn and Annular.     Owing to the advantages of nanocomposites for structural applications, we present microstructural evolutions and texture development during dissimilar friction stir welding (DFSW) of an Al-matrix hybrid nanocomposite (Al-2 vol.-% Al2O3-2 vol.-% SiC) with AA1050. It is shown that DFSW can successfully be performed at a rotating speed of 1200 rev min−1 and a transverse speed of 50 mm min−1 while locating the nanocomposite at retreating side.     A combined texture- and color-based skin detection is proposed in this paper. Nonsubsampled contourlet transform is used to represent texture of the whole image. Local neighbor contourlet coefficients of a pixel are used as feature vectors to classify each pixel. Dimensionality reduction is addressed through principal component analysis (PCA) to remedy the curse of dimensionality in the training phase. Before texture classification, the pixel is tested to determine whether it is skin-colored. Therefore, the classifier is learned to discriminate skin and non-skin texture for skin colored regions. In the soft segmentation process, a cellular learning automata analyzes the input image and closes together the pixels that are enclosed in each region to generate a soft segmented image.     Hot isotherm compression tests were performed in temperature range of 350-500 °C and at strain rates of 0.0005 to 0.5 s-1 for Al6061 alloy reinforced with alumina nanoparticles. Effect of deformation parameters and optimal conditions for hot working this nanocomposite were comprehended thoroughly via hot working data analyses, electron microscopy images, and X-ray diffractograms.
