    Optical properties and morphology analysis of hexagonal WO3 thin films obtained by electron beam evaporation

    Abstract
    WO3 films with thicknesses between 550 and 853 nm were deposited on glass substrates using the electron beam evaporation method at room temperature. The microstructures and surface roughness of the films were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). It was observed that the crystalline structure of the WO3 thin films significantly changes from the amorphous to crystalline states with a crystalline texture, and the mosaicity and grain size dependent on the film thickness. The transmittance spectra of the obtained WO3 films were measured in the range from 340 to 850 nm, and the Swanepoel method was used to determine the refractive indices and the thicknesses of the...

    Abstract
    Equal channel angular pressing is an effective technique to control the texture and microstructure of metals and alloys. Texture and microstructure of an Al-7075 alloy subjected to repetitive equal channel angular pressing through a 90° die were evaluated by X-ray diffractometer and orientation imaging microscopy. It is observed that processing through different routes leads to different types of textures, in both qualitative and quantitative senses. The texture calculation by Labotex software reveals that texture strengthens after the first pass and weakens by progressing ECAP process up to 4 passes.     Abstract
    Nematic shells of liquid crystals have been provided in microscales. Defect structures in the shells are very essential in the electro-optical applications of such colloidal objects. We have numerically minimized the free energy of symmetric and asymmetric spherical shells of the nematic liquid crystal. Considering degenerate planar anchoring on the surfaces and isotropic nematic elasticity, a variety of defect structures are observed by controlling or varying the thicknesses of the shell and its degree of asymmetry.     The effect of welding current and polarity, i.e. AC and DCEN, on imposed thermal cycles, mechanical properties, microstructural events and residual stresses was investigated in GTA welding of AA5052. A three-dimensional thermo-mechanical model was utilized to evaluate thermal responses and residual stresses distribution in the weldments.     In this work, examinations on the microstructure and mechanical properties of plain carbon steel and AISI 430 ferritic stainless steel dissimilar welds are carried out. Welding is conducted in both autogenous and using ER309L austenitic filler rod conditions through gas tungsten arc welding process. The results indicate that fully-ferritic and duplex ferritic-martensitic microstructures are formed for autogenous and filler-added welds, respectively. Carbide precipitation and formation of martensite at ferrite grain boundaries (intergranular martensite) as well as grain growth occur in the heat affected zone (HAZ) of AISI 430 steel.     The texture, microstructure, and mechanical properties of severely deformed aluminum subjected to friction stir processing (FSP) with SiC nanoparticles under ambient and cryogenic temperatures are comprehensively investigated. Even one pass of FSP in the ambient temperature results in the formation of quite large grain structure with random texture in the heat affected zone (HAZ). It suggests the occurrence of static recrystallization and subsequent grain growth because of the appreciable strain stored within the base metal.     The texture development during friction stir processing (FSP) of 1050 aluminum severely deformed at the strain magnitude of 2.32 was comprehensively discussed. It was observed that the component B¯ of the ideal shear texture along with the cube texture was developed in the severely deformed base metal.     Herein, we present a novel, simple, and ultrasensitive electrochemical DNA (E-DNA) sensor based on hollow carbon spheres (HCS) decorated with polyaniline (PANI). A thiolated 21-mer oligonucleotide, characteristic of HBV DNA, is immobilized via electrodeposited gold nanoparticles on HCS-PANI.     Abstract
    In this paper we propose a method for CBIR based on the combination of texture, edge map and color. As texture of edges yields important information about the images, we utilized an adaptive edge detector that produces a binary edge image. Also, using the statistics of color in two different color spaces provides complementary information to retrieve images. Our method is time efficient since we have applied texture calculations on the binary edge image. Our experimental results showed both the higher accuracy and lower time complexity of our method with similar related works using SIMPLIcity database

    The control of texture and microstructure can be achieved by an appropriate thermomechanical treatment in industrial production. The effects of finish rolling temperature, cold reduction and annealing temperature on texture development and microstructure in Brass sheet were investigated. The role of deformation inhomogeneities on texture evolution has been considered. The formation of transition bands during hot rolling enforced the intensity of cube components.     Abstract
    Optimized conditions of hot and cold rolling followed by annealing can result in a balance between recrystallization and rolling textures in order to reduce the planar anisotropy of brass sheets. In this work, the effect of finish rolling temperature, cold reduction and annealing temperature on texture development has been investigated. It is shown that uniform deformation at higher finishing temperature is responsible of formation of a severe Cube and G texture components. In contrast, mechanical twinnings are widely formed at low finishing temperatures. There is also a direct relation between the intensity of Cube component and the amount of cold reduction

    In this study, we investigate the limitations and influence of various factors on the performance of trolling mode atomic force microscopy (TR-AFM). For this purpose, at first, based on the governing equations of motion and using a conventional control method, a simulation tool capable of correctly simulating the imaging procedure in TR-AFM is developed. Then based on the developed simulation tool, imaging of different surfaces is performed, and the effect of different factors on the image quality is analyzed.     In this paper, Ti-6Al-4V/TiC composite was fabricated by VIM furnace and graphite crucible. X-ray diffraction analysis and EDS techniques were used to identify the phases in the material. Microstructure characteristics of the Ti-6Al-4V/TiC composite were evaluated by means of optical microscopy. The tensile test was performed at room temperature after hot-rolling of the samples in the beta phase field.     Abstract
    In this study Al2O3-SiC micro/nanocomposites have been fabricated by mixing alumina nanopowders and silicon carbide micro/nanopowders, followed by hot pressing at 1550, 1600, 1650 and 1700°C. The density, mechanical properties and fracture mode of Al2O3-SiC composites containing different volume fractions (2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, 10% and 15%) of micro/nanoscale SiC particles were investigated and compared with those of alumina. The relative density of composites could reach values very close to theoretical density, especially after sintering at 1700°C.
