    Abstract
    Mixing processes are widely used in industries and are being studied by a number of scientists; even though, a fundamental insight of the subject is still lacking. In this paper, some basic thoughts are set on the analogy between fluid mixing phenomena and fractal geometry/ properties/ processes. To this end, an unstable horseshoe pattern, which leads to a continuous extending boundary with maximum stretching and folding, is created and repeated. As a result, self-similarity property along with instability is imposed throughout the region, enhancing the fluid mixing.     In this work, a metaheuristic optimization algorithm is developed based on the idea of interaction between the demanders and the suppliers in the real estate market. After reviewing the basic theory behind the idea, the working principles of the algorithm are developed and explained in details. The proposed framework yields the exploration and exploitation ability of the algorithm and also leads the algorithm to converge to the global maxima.     Taking advantage of the attractive features of Hestenes-Stiefel and Dai-Yuan conjugate gradient methods, we suggest two globally convergent hybridizations of these methods following Andrei's approach of hybridizing the conjugate gradient parameters convexly and Powell's approach of nonnegative restriction of the conjugate gradient parameters. In our methods, the hybridization parameter is obtained based on a recently proposed hybrid secant equation. Numerical results demonstrating the efficiency of the proposed methods are reported

    This paper presents a novel method fortuning the parameters of an sliding mode (SM) controller to obtain near-optimal performance. In order to do so the Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) was implemented on a linearized system. The input history of the LQR was used as a reference to obtain an optimal space for sliding mode controller parameters.     We present a new optimal construction of a semi-separated pair decomposition (i.e., SSPD) for a set of n points in Rd. In the new construction each point participates in a few pairs, and it extends easily to spaces with low doubling dimension. This is the first optimal construction with these properties.     Abstract
    A solution to the imbalance of vehicles in one-way carsharing systems is vehicle relocation which involves staff members to redistribute the vehicles between stations. Vehicle relocation, however, can lead to an imbalance of staff members between stations. Thus, staff members, themselves, need to be relocated between stations to perform the vehicle relocations. This study addresses the joint optimization of vehicle relocation and staff rebalancing using two integrated multi-traveling salesman formulations. Results show that fleet size is more sensitive to demand than staff size, staff size is inversely related to vehicle cost, and that vehicle relocation time increases with vehicle cost

    In this paper we introduce a novel population-based binary optimization technique, which works based on consensus of interacting multi-agent systems. The agents, each associated with an opinion vector, are connected through a network. They can influence each other, and thus their opinions can be updated.     In this paper we consider the issue of energy efficiency in random access networks and show that optimizing transmission probabilities of nodes can enhance network performance in terms of energy consumption and fairness. First, we propose a heuristic power control method that improves throughput, and then we model the Utility Constrained Energy Minimization (UCEM) problem in which the utility constraint takes into account single and multi node performance.     In this paper, an algorithm based on Ant Colony Optimization metaheuristic is proposed for finding solutions to the well-known graceful labeling problem of graphs. Despite the large number of papers published on the theory of this problem, there are few particular techniques introduced by researchers for gracefully labeling graphs.
