    Abstract
    In this paper, a systematic investigation and modeling of all available technologies (such as NGL, injection in pipelines, LNG, GTL, NGH, and CNG plants, EOR, electricity production by thermal power plants, and water generation by MED technologies) for flare gas recovery has been developed. An optimal combination of the technologies has been proposed for flare gas recovery of five oil wells in the south of Iran with different specifications as case studies.     Abstract
    Considering the stress cycles in joints and members due to wave induced forces on offshore platforms, fatigue analysis is therefore one of the most important analyses in offshore platforms design. Most of steel jacket type platforms located in areas with relatively high ratios of operational sea-states to maximum design environmental events; fall in acceptable safety margin in inplace and seismic analyses. But in fatigue analyses they will face critical condition.     Failure statistics of most utilities indicate that distribution systems make the greatest individual contribution to the unavailability of supply to customers. Optimal capacitor placement in distribution systems has a number of advantages such as reducing losses, improving voltage profile, improving power factor and so on. The conventional objective function of the optimal capacitor placement consists of the total cost of losses and investments. Since capacitors supply reactive loads locally, they improve the load-carrying capability of the lines and therefore play the same role as redundant lines.     Due date assignment for customer orders has been studied in various production environments using different modeling approaches. In this paper the researchers consider a production system in which the orders of several customers are produced in a single batch because of the economy of scale. If a batch is completed before receiving customer orders, inventory carrying cost is incurred but if it is completed after receiving customer orders, shortage cost is incurred and finally if the order is delivered after its due date, tardiness cost is charged.     Multivariate curve resolution-particle swarm optimization (MCR-PSO) algorithm is proposed to exploit pure chromatographic and spectroscopic information from multi-component hyphenated chromatographic signals. This new MCR method is based on rotation of mathematically unique PCA solutions into the chemically meaningful MCR solutions. To obtain a proper rotation matrix, an objective function based on non-fulfillment of constraints is defined and is optimized using particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm.     In the present work, a thermal modeling is conducted for optimal design of compact heat exchangers in order to minimize cost and entropy generation. In this regard, an εNTU method is applied for estimation of the heat exchanger pressure drop, as well as effectiveness. Fin pitch, fin height, fin offset length, cold stream flow length, no-flow length, and hot stream flow length are considered as six decision variables.     Abstract
    The optimal design of a casting feeding system is considered. The problem is formulated as the volume constrained topology optimization and is solved with the finite element analysis, explicit design sensitivity, and numerical optimization. In contrast to the traditional topology optimization where the objective function is defined on the design space, in the presented method, the design space is a subset of the complement of the objective function space. To accelerate optimization procedure, the nonlinear unsteady heat transfer equation is approximated with a Poisson-like equation.     Mean field independent component analysis (MF-ICA) along with other chemometric techniques was proposed for obtaining more information from multi-component gas chromatographic-mass spectrometric (GC-MS) signals of essential oils (mandarin and lemon as examples). Using these techniques, some fundamental problems during the GC-MS analysis of essential oils such as varying baseline, presence of different types of noise and co-elution have been solved.
