    In this study, the authors study a fibre-optic local area network deploying optical code division multiple access technique with differential M-ary pulse position modulation (DPPM). The authors present the performance analysis of DPPM signalling using a double optical hardlimiter receiver structure considering the impairment caused by interference of other users. The analysis assumes a set of bit asynchronous transmitters employing generalised optical orthogonal codes for their DPPM signalling (GOOC-DPPM).     Abstract
    Parameter extraction of the five-parameter single-diode model of solar cells and modules from experimental data is a challenging problem. These parameters are evaluated from a set of nonlinear equations that cannot be solved analytically. On the other hand, a numerical solution of such equations needs a suitable initial guess to converge to a solution. This paper presents a new set of approximate analytical solutions for the parameters of a five-parameter single-diode model of photovoltaic (PV) cells and modules.     Multi-site photoplethysmography is an optoelectronic technique that measures changes in blood volume associated with cardiac contraction. Photoplethysmogram (PPG) recording enables researchers to study the vascular and hemodynamic properties of human subjects.     Abstract
    In this paper, we present an analytical model to analyze the influence of deep level traps on the static and dynamic responses of transistor laser (TL). Our analyze is based on analytically solving the continuity equation and rate equations including the effect of the deep level trap (DLT), which incorporate the virtual states as a conversion mechanism. The results of simulation show that the main characteristics of laser such as threshold current, quantum efficiency, output power, and modulation bandwidth are affected by total density of traps in the active region

    Abstract
    Based on Bloch-Floquet's theorem and ordinary matrix calculations, a rigorous method for extraction of the eigenmodes of fiber gratings is developed. This method is also applicable to fiber gratings which are either physically multilayer or mathematically divided into layers along the radial coordinate. Although the well-known coupled mode theory (CMT) is accounted a method for extraction of the coefficients of reflection and transmission of finite-length FBGs, its inadequacy for extraction of the Bloch eigenmodes of FBGs is illustrated, even if the modulation depth of refractive index is small and the Bragg condition is satisfied

    Abstract
    Large signal behavior of the Laser Diode is analyzed with the aim of finding a qualitative relationship between modulation amplitude and the change in the shape of its transfer function. It is found that, at quasi-static conditions, increasing the amplitude of the modulating signal smoothes out the original piecewise-linear transfer function of the diode. It further shifts the now smoothed knee point to lower DC currents. As the frequency increases, however, these effects become less and less pronounced.     We introduce the capture effect concept in microwave photonic links (MWPLs) for the first time to our knowledge. The capture effect or the small-signal suppression is the change in the amplitude ratio of the two signals between input and output of the intensity-modulation direct-detection (IMDD) MWPLs.     In this paper, we present a quality-of-transmission (QoT) aware dynamic routing, modulation level, and spectrum assignment scheme referred to as QoT-aware RSA. The proposed QoT-aware RSA has three stages: path computation with QoT-aware modulation level assignment, path selection, and spectrum assignment. Two schemes are presented in the path computation stage namely, modified Dijkstra and K-shortest-path algorithms.     Abstract
    In this paper, we present a mathematical model for the idea of using more than one optical phase conjugate (OPC) module for coherent optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (CO-OFDM) systems in long-haul fiber optic channels. The four-wave mixing (FWM) formulation is derived for three different scenarios in which different numbers of OPC modules are used. The simulation results reveal that using more than one OPC modules leads to a much better BER performance operating on a typical OFDM system

    This paper presents a new architecture for VCO-based Continuous Time Delta Sigma Modulators. This approach is based on the differential configuration for the quantizer while maintains its inherent dynamic element matching property. Consuming no additional power and area compared to the conventional scheme, this architecture can eliminate the even orders of harmonic distortion and achieve higher linearity.     We analyze the interaction of a propagating guided electromagnetic wave with a quantum well embedded in a dielectric slab waveguide. First, we design a quantum well based on InAlGaAs compounds with the transition energy of 0.8 eV corresponding to a wavelength of 1.55 μm. By exploiting the envelope function approximation, we derive the eigenstates of electrons and holes and the transition dipole moments.     The focus of this study is the performance of the relaying network with incremental selective decode-and-forward (ISDF) protocol in non-selective slow Nakagami-m fading channels. To enhance bandwidth efficiency, when the direct transmission is not successful the relay is used to retransmit a clean copy of the source signal.     Abstract
    Here, an in-depth study of a novel electro-optic phenomenon suggested earlier in optical waveguides, referred to as the conducting interfaces, is carried out. It is shown that it would be possible to achieve a very strong optical modulation effect in slab waveguides fabricated on the standard III-V InAlGaAs compound platform. The electro-optic effect is obtained by controlling the density and population of the electron and hole states in the well layer.     Abstract
    In this letter, a new molecular modulation scheme for nanonetworks is proposed. To evaluate the scheme, a system model based on the Poisson distribution is introduced. The error probability of the proposed scheme as well as that of two previously known schemes, the concentration and molecular shift keying modulations, are derived for the Poisson model by taking into account the error propagation effect of previously decoded symbols.     Gas porosities and Fe-rich phases and entrapped double oxide films (hereafter: oxides) are known to be the most detrimental defects in cast Al-Si-Mg alloys. The effects of H (gas porosities) and Fe (Β-Al5FeSi phase) on reproducibility of tensile properties in Al-7Si-0.35Mg alloy have been investigated in this study.     Abstract
    The effects of laser field and laser pulse width on the dissociation probability of C-H bond of CH4 have been investigated. Calculation of time dependent Schrödinger equation by grid spectral method is carried out and it is produced optimistic results in comparison to the earlier Quasi-classical calculations. The results show that there is an excellent match with experimental data. In this work, a number of results in the emerging field of laser with intensity of I = 8 × 1013 W cm-2 and pulse duration of 100 fs are presented.
