Phase I monitoring of simple linear profiles in multistage processes with cascade property

    , Article International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology ; 2016 , Pages 1-13 ; 02683768 (ISSN) Kalaei, M ; Atashgar, K ; Akhavan Niaki, S. T ; Soleimani, P ; Sharif University of Technology
    Springer London  2016
    Abstract
When a multistage manufacturing process is monitored statistically, the cascade property results in a more complicated condition compared to the case when a single-stage process is controlled. The cascade property usually exists in different stages of a multistage process, where the quality of a stage influences the performance of the next stage. Moreover, sometimes the quality of a product/process is best characterized by a functional relationship. This relationship is referred to as a profile. In this paper, phase I monitoring of simple linear profile is addressed for a multistage process involving the cascade property. To aim this, the capabilities of the methods that may be used to...

Configuration design in scalable reconfigurable manufacturing systems (RMS); a case of single-product flow line (SPFL)

    , Article International Journal of Production Research ; 2017 , Pages 1-23 ; 00207543 (ISSN) Moghaddam, S. K ; Houshmand, M ; Fatahi Valilai, O ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The dynamic nature of today’s manufacturing industry, which is caused by the intense global competition and constant technological advancements, requires systems that are highly adaptive and responsive to demand fluctuations. Reconfigurable manufacturing systems (RMS) enable such responsiveness through their main characteristics. This paper addresses the problem of RMS configuration design, where the demand of a single product varies throughout its production life cycle, and the system configuration must change accordingly to satisfy the required demand with minimum cost. A two-phased method is developed to handle the primary system configuration design and the necessary system...

Multi-Product constrained economic production quantity models for imperfect quality items with rework

    , Article International Journal of Industrial Engineering and Production Research ; Volume 32, Issue 3 , 2021 ; 20084889 (ISSN) Mokhtari, H ; Hasani, A ; Fallahi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
Iran University of Science and Technology  2021
    Abstract
One of the basic assumptions of classical production-inventory models is that all products are of perfect quality. However, in real manufacturing situations, the production of defective items is inevitable, and a fraction of the items produced may be naturally imperfect. In fact, items may be damaged due to production and/or transportation conditions in the manufacturing process. On the other hand, some reworkable items exist among imperfect items that can be made perfect by additional processing. In addition, the classical production-inventory models assume that there is only one product in the system and that there is an unlimited amount of resources. However, in many practical situations,...

Influence of formulation parameters on the release of diclofenac sodium from matrices with manufacturing formulation ingredients

    , Article Iranian Journal of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering ; Volume 21, Issue 2 , 2002 , Pages 135-140 ; 10219986 (ISSN) Abdekhodaie, M. J ; Hemmati, A. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2002
    Abstract
Effects of formulation parameters on the fractional release profile of diclofenac sodium from matrices having the manufacturing formulation ingredients are studied. As a content of cetyl alcohol (rate controlling agent) in the matrix increases, the fractional release decreases. The fractional release increases either by increasing sucrose content outside the granule or by decreasing sucrose content inside the granule. Results presented here indicate that as PVP content outside the granule or aerosil fraction inside or outside the granule in the matrix increases, the fractional release increases. The fractional release profiles of diclofenac sodium from matrices, when each ingredient is...

Service level based capacity rationing procedure for make-to-order manufacturing systems

    , Article International Journal of Engineering, Transactions A: Basics ; Volume 20, Issue 1 , 2007 , Pages 1-16 ; 17281431 (ISSN) Sharifyazdi, M ; Modarres, M ; Sharif University of Technology
Materials and Energy Research Center  2007
    Abstract
We extend a heuristic method within the framework of "dynamic capacity apportionment procedure" (DCAP) to allocate an existing capacity among the classes with different profit contributions. In general, DCAP is applied when some capacity shortage exists and can not be enhanced in short - run. Our proposed approach is constructed for a make - to - order manufacturing system that produces a variety of products while experiences a burst of demand in excess of capacity. Although, a higher level of profit can be gained by accepting more orders from higher priority classes at the expense of rejecting some or all of orders of lower priority classes, it may result in elimination of an existing...

Cellular layout design using Tabu search, a case study

    , Article RAIRO - Operations Research ; Volume 53, Issue 5 , 2019 , Pages 1475-1488 ; 03990559 (ISSN) Ghassemi Tari, F ; Ahadi, K ; Sharif University of Technology
    EDP Sciences  2019
    Abstract
This paper presents a facility layout design for a cellular manufacturing system (CMS), with the automated guided vehicles (AGVs) as the transportation device, to minimize the total material handling costs. A new concept of assigning the workstations to the non-overlapping closed zones, by which independent AGVs are allocated for internal transfer of materials/parts in each zone, is proposed. To handle this problem, a mathematical programming model is developed. The problem has been shown to be NP-hard. This computational difficulty has led us to consider suboptimal solutions generated by a Tabu search with three algorithmic variants. To evaluate the efficiencies of these algorithms, an...

Introducing a roadmap to implement the universal manufacturing platform using axiomatic design theory

    , Article International Journal of Manufacturing Research ; Volume 5, Issue 2 , 2010 , Pages 252-269 ; 17500591 (ISSN) Mokhtar, A ; Houshmand, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
In competitive environment of quick market changes, developing an interoperable manufacturing system is a necessity. To realise interoperability, the exchange of part and product data must be independent of their platforms. There are two basic approaches for this purpose: i utilising interfaces ii utilising neutral formats. Standard for the Exchange of Product data (STEP) plays a significant role as a neutral data model to integrate design, manufacturing and other activities in product life cycle. To implement a Universal Manufacturing Platform (UMP), a systematic roadmap is required. The current paper proposes such a roadmap using the methodology of Axiomatic Design (AD)
