    , Article 2008 International Symposium on Telecommunications, IST 2008, Tehran, 27 August 2008 through 28 August 2008 ; 2008 , Pages 671-676 ; 9781424427512 (ISBN) Hassanzadeh, M. M ; Parker, M. G ; Helleseth, T ; Esmaeili Salehani, Y ; Sohizadeh Abyaneh, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
In reference [1], some weak points in the design of the Shannon stream cipher and a differential distinguisher with complexity of O(214.92) keystream bits (i.e. O(29.92) keystream words) were presented. Another distinguishing attack based on a multidimensional linear transformation was presented in [2] which require 2106.996 keystream words. Both of these attacks need to have access to the initial state that is unlikely. In this paper, a likely attack using fault analysis method is exploited to solve the mentioned problem. Additionally, a new distinguisher is proposed which improves the attack complexity to four times the complexity of running the Shannon stream cipher. Only are two...

A comprehensive mathematical simulation of the composite size-dependent rotary 3D microsystem via two-dimensional generalized differential quadrature method

    Abstract
In this study, frequency simulation and critical angular velocity of a size-dependent laminated rotary microsystem using modified couple stress theory (MCST) as the higher-order elasticity model is undertaken. The centrifugal and Coriolis impacts due to the spinning are taken into account. The size-dependent thick annular microsystem's computational formulation, non-classical governing equations, and corresponding boundary conditions are obtained by using the higher-order stress tensors and symmetric rotation gradient to the strain energy. By using a single material length scale factor, the most recent non-classical approach captures the size-dependency in the annular laminated microsystem....

    Abstract
In this study, a periodic beam-like structure consisting of the horizontal and inclined beam elements is proposed. Three models with three different angles of inclination are considered. The generalized differential quadrature (GDQ) and generalized differential quadrature rule (GDQR) methods are used to solve the differential equations of longitudinal and transverse vibrations, respectively. The effects of two geometrical parameters on the first three band gaps of each model are investigated, comprehensively. Results show that this periodic structure has wide band gaps at low frequency ranges. Furthermore, the band gaps can get close to each other by changing the geometrical parameters....

Third Order differential Equations Describing Pseudospherical Surfaces

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shabani, Shahaboddin (Author) ; Hesaraki, Mahmoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Third order differential equations which describe pseudospherical surfaces are considered. The complete classification of a class of such equations is given. A linear problem with one or more parameters, also known as zero curvature representation, for which the equation is the integrability condition, is explicitly given. The classification provides five large families of differential equations. Third order nonlinear dispersive wave equations, such as the Camassa–Holm equation and Degasperis–Procesi equation are examples contained in the classification. Many other explicit examples are included

Analysis and Differential Equations on Fractals

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Aslani, Shahriar (Author) ; Ranjbar Motlagh, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis we consider dynamical aspects of fractals. More precisely, answering questions like how heat diffuses on fractals and how does a material with fractal structure vibrates? To give an answer to these questions we need a PDE theory on fractals. Since fractals do not have smooth structures, defining differential operators like Laplacian is not possible from a classical viewpoint of analysis, to overcome such a difficulty we also need a theory of analysis on fractals. So as a good instance of analysis on fractals we first define Laplacian on Sierpinsky gasket and we try to extend the concept on other finitely ramified self-similar fractals. We also construct Dirichlet forms,...

Observer-free control of satellite attitude using a single vector measurement

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems ; Vol. 50, issue. 3 , 2014 , pp. 2070-2081 ; ISSN: 00189251 Safaei, F ; Namvar, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The existing methods in attitude control of satellites are based on using the estimate of satellite attitude, which is usually generated by using multiple vector measurements. In this paper we propose an output feedback controller that directly uses a single vector measurement and does not use an attitude estimator. The output feedback gain is computed by solving a generalized Riccati differential equation (GRDE). The existence of a solution to the GRDE depends on a uniform controllability condition

Free chattering synchronization of two Lur'e differential inclusions with sector input nonlinearity

    , Article 2014 IEEE Conference on Control Applications ; 2014 , PP. 1035-1040 ; ISBN: 9781479974092 Abooee, A ; Haeri, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
This paper deals with the synchronization of two Lur'e differential inclusions containing sector nonlinearity. Lyapunov stability theorem is employed to design the control inputs. The controllers are designed considering three important practical features in physical systems. First, differential equation part of the Lur'e differential inclusion is assumed to be convex. Second, it is presumed that parameters of the Lur'e differential inclusion are not completely known. Third, sector nonlinearities are considered on control inputs applied to the Lur'e differential inclusions. To assess performance and effectiveness of the proposed controllers, synchronization of two rotor dynamic systems is...

Limit analysis of FGM circular plates subjected to arbitrary rotational symmetric loads using von-Mises yield criterion

    , Article Acta Mechanica ; Volume 224, Issue 8 , 2013 , Pages 1601-1608 ; 00015970 (ISSN) Baghani, M ; Fereidoonnezhad, B ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
In this paper, employing the limit analysis theorem, critical loading on functionally graded (FG) circular plate with simply supported boundary conditions and subjected to an arbitrary rotationally symmetric loading is determined. The material behavior follows a rigid-perfectly plastic model and yielding obeys the von-Mises criterion. In the homogeneous case, the highly nonlinear ordinary differential equation governing the problem is analytically solved using a variational iteration method. In other cases, numerical results are reported. Finally, the results are compared with those of the FG plate with Tresca yield criterion and also in the homogeneous case with those of employing the...

Recursive linear and differential cryptanalysis of ultralightweight authentication protocols

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics and Security ; Volume 8, Issue 7 , 2013 , Pages 1140-1151 ; 15566013 (ISSN) Ahmadian, Z ; Salmasizadeh, M ; Aref, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
Privacy is faced with serious challenges in the ubiquitous computing world. In order to handle this problem, some researchers in recent years have focused on design and analysis of privacy-friendly ultralightweight authentication protocols. Although the majority of these schemes have been broken to a greater or lesser extent, most of these attacks are based on ad-hoc methods that are not extensible to a large class of ultralightweight protocols. So this research area still suffers from the lack of structured cryptanalysis and evaluation methods. In this paper, we introduce new frameworks for full disclosure attacks on ultralightweight authentication protocols based on new concepts of...

Output feedback control of satellite attitude using a single vector measurement

, Article Proceedings of the IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 10 December 2012 through 13 December 2012, Maui, HI ; 2012 , Pages 490-495 ; 01912216 (ISSN) Safaei, F ; Namvar, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
The existing methods in attitude control of satellites are based on employing the estimate of satellite attitude which is usually generated by using multiple vector measurements. In this paper we propose an output feedback control law that directly uses a single vector measurement and gyro, and without any need for estimating the satellite attitude. The output feedback gain is computed by solving a generalized Riccati time varying differential equation. We assume the moment-of-inertia matrix of satellite is unknown. The controller guarantees asymptotic convergence of the attitude to its desired value. A realistic simulation is presented where a magnetometer is used to provide the single...

    , Article Proceedings of the ASME Design Engineering Technical Conference, 12 August 2012 through 12 August 2012 ; Volume 4, Issue PARTS A AND B , August , 2012 , Pages 363-371 ; 9780791845035 (ISBN) Moeenfard, H ; Awtar, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
The objective of this work is to create an analytical framework to study the non-linear dynamics of beam flexures with a tip mass undergoing large deflections. Hamilton's principal is utilized to derive the equations governing the nonlinear vibrations of the cantilever beam and the associated boundary conditions. Then, using a single mode approximation, these non-linear partial differential equations are reduced to two coupled non-linear ordinary differential equations. These equations are solved analytically using combination of the method of multiple time scales and homotopy perturbation analysis. Closed-form, parametric analytical expressions are presented for the time domain response of...

On dynamic stiffness of spacecraft flexible appendages in deployment phase

    , Article Aerospace Science and Technology ; Volume 47 , 2015 , Pages 1-9 ; 12709638 (ISSN) Bagheri Ghaleh, P ; Malaek, S. M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Deployment inertial effects of a spacecraft appendage on its flexible dynamics are investigated. The Euler-Bernoulli beam theory and the actual deployment profile, in which appendage axial motion accelerates from static state and then decelerates to end at zero velocity and acceleration, are employed. The study is concentrated on the arm dynamic stiffness introduced by inertial effects of the arm deployment, and the resultant effects on the arm flexible motions. Lagrange's equations and some appropriate shape functions in the series approximation method are employed to study the arm lateral elastic displacements. Finally a system of ordinary differential equations with time varying...

Bending analysis of thin skew plates using extended Kantorovich method

    , Article ASME 2010 10th Biennial Conference on Engineering Systems Design and Analysis, ESDA2010, 12 July 2010 through 14 July 2010, Istanbul ; Volume 2 , 2010 , Pages 39-44 ; 9780791849163 (ISBN) Kargarnovin, M. H ; Joodaky, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
An accurate approximate closed-form solution is presented for bending of thin skew plates with clamped edges subjected to uniform loading using the extended Kantorovich method (EKM). Successive application of EKM together with the idea of weighted residual technique (Galerkin method) converts the governing forth-order partial differential equation (PDE) to two separate ordinary differential equations (ODE) in terms of oblique coordinates system. The obtained ODE systems are then solved iteratively with very fast convergence. In every iteration step, exact closed-form solutions are obtained for two ODE systems. It is shown that some parameters such as angle of skew plate have an important...

    9-Round attack on AES-256 by a 6-round property

    , Article Proceedings - 2010 18th Iranian Conference on Electrical Engineering, ICEE 2010, 11 May 2010 through 13 May 2010 ; 2010 , Pages 226-230 ; 9781424467600 (ISBN) Sharifi, A ; Soleimany, H ; Aref, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this paper, we propose a new 6-round Related-Key Impossible Differential property of AES-256 and two related-key impossible differential attacks on 7 and 9 round AES-256, based on the proposed property. The overall complexity of the proposed 7 round attack is decreased by the factor 217. This is for the first time that a Related-Key Impossible Differential attack on 9-round AES-256 is successful. Also this is the first related-key attack on 9-round AES-256 that needs only 2 keys. Although the data and time complexities of the attack are approximately code book and exhaustive search, but we think the proposed property will be useful in future research like boomerang and rectangle attacks

Size-dependent vibrational behavior of a Jeffcott model for micro-rotor systems

    , Article Journal of Mechanical Science and Technology ; Volume 30, Issue 1 , 2016 , Pages 35-41 ; 1738494X (ISSN) Hashemi, M ; Asghari, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this study, several analytical expressions are obtained for the vibrational characteristics of a Jeffcott model for micro-rotor systems based on the strain gradient theory to investigate the small-scale effects on the model. The Jeffcott model consists of a massless microrotating shaft and a disk as a rotor with eccentricity. The disk is mounted on the middle of the shaft. Two second-order differential equations associated with the oscillating motion of the rotor in the plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis are presented and transformed into a complex form. The stiffness of the system is determined by obtaining the deflection of a strain-gradient-based nonrotating microbeam...

    Abstract
Leveraging subwavelength resonant nanostructures, plasmonic metasurfaces have recently attracted much attention as a breakthrough concept for engineering optical waves both spatially and spectrally. However, inherent ohmic losses concomitant with low coupling efficiencies pose fundamental impediments over their practical applications. Not only can all-dielectric metasurfaces tackle such substantial drawbacks, but also their CMOS-compatible configurations support both Mie resonances that are invariant to the incident angle. Here, we report on a transmittive metasurface comprising arrayed silicon nanodisks embedded in a homogeneous dielectric medium to manipulate phase and amplitude of...

Analog optical computing by half-wavelength slabs

    , Article Optics Communications ; Volume 407 , 2018 , Pages 338-343 ; 00304018 (ISSN) Zangeneh Nejad, F ; Khavasi, A ; Rejaei, B ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2018
    Abstract
A new approach to perform analog optical differentiation is presented using half-wavelength slabs. First, a half-wavelength dielectric slab is used to design a first order differentiator. The latter works properly for both major polarizations, in contrast to our previously design based on Brewster effect (Youssefi et al., 2016). Inspired by the proposed dielectric differentiator, and by exploiting the unique features of graphene, we further design and demonstrate a reconfigurable and highly miniaturized differentiator using a half-wavelength plasmonic graphene film. To the best of our knowledge, our proposed graphene-based differentiator is even smaller than the most compact differentiator...

    Abstract
A hybrid controller is proposed for Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) processes. Since the process is described by a set of Partial Differential Algebraic Equations (PDAE's), first a Local Reduced Order Model (LROM) for the process is developed and then it is formalized as a hybrid system. A controller is designed for purity control of the process in the presence of external disturbances, by determining the maximal safe set of the LROM. Hybrid backward reachability analysis is performed for this purpose. The controller is designed and applied to a two-bed, six-step PSA process whose dynamical behavior is simulated by a full-order principle-based model of the process. Excellent performance of...

On-chip second-order spatial derivative of an optical beam by a periodic ridge

    Abstract
In this paper, a very simple periodic ridge on a symmetric slab waveguide is used for implementing an on-chip CMOS-compatible second-order spatial differentiator. The reflection and transmission coefficients of this structure show that the second derivative is performed in the transmission when the optical beam normally incidents on the periodic ridge. Simulations confirm that the reason behind the second-order spatial differentiation of the incoming beam is the excitation of the guided mode of the periodic ridge. A Maxwell’s equation solver that utilizes the finite element method (FEM) is used to simulate this structure, and an eigenmode solver is utilized for the validation. The results of...
