    Background: Patients who have shoulder pain usually have compensatory or contributory deviation of shoulder motion during arm elevation.     Abstract
    In this study, the nonlinear partial differential equations governing two phase flow through porous media are solved using two different methods, namely, finite difference and finite element. The capillary pressure term is considered in the mathematical model. The numerical results on a 2-D test case are then compared with the experimental drainage process and water flooding performed on a glass type micromodel. Based on the obtained results, finite difference technique needs less computational time for solving governing equations of two phase flow, but findings of this method show less agreement with the experimental data.     In the present work, the multiscale finite volume (MsFV) method is implemented on a new coarse grids arrangement. Like grids used in the MsFV methods, the new grid arrangement consists of both coarse and dual coarse grids but here each coarse block in the MsFV method is a dual coarse block and vice versa. Due to using the altered coarse grids, implementation, computational cost, and the reconstruction step differ from the original version of MsFV method.     Five different approaches are presented to assign characteristic ratios for commensurate fractional order systems having order in (0,0.5]. Through the indirect methods, a closed-loop or plant transfer function is converted to a commensurate order one with an order greater than 0.5 so that the previously designed CRA method by the authors is applicable. The first method among the proposed direct ones is based on increasing the order of the desired closed-loop transfer function that allows the employment of positive characteristic ratios.     In this paper, a two-link flexible manipulator is considered. For a prescribed motion, Timoshenko and Euler-Bernoulli beam models are considered. Using the Galerkin method, nonlinear equations of motion are solved. The Runge-Kutta method is employed for the time response integration method. A comparative study is made between the Euler-Bernoulli and Timoshenko beam models, with and without foreshortening effects.     This study aims at quantitatively assessing the availability indices of various substation automation systems. In order to illustrate the proposed technique, first, nine types of substation automation architectures are reviewed.     Abstract
    This paper studies a number of well-known noise estimation techniques and provides a comparative performance analysis of them in speech enhancement platform. Two types of evaluation data that simulate consistent and inconsistent noisy conditions are prepared in the presence of six noise types at different SNR levels. The performance of speech enhancement systems and the spectrum distance of the estimated and original noise spectrums are used as evaluation criteria. The evaluations indicate that a simple VAD method outperforms noise estimation methods in most of the consistent noisy conditions

    In this work, a series of solvent- and water-injection scenarios were conducted on horizontal five-spot glass micromodels that were saturated initially with heavy oil. Sandstone and limestone rock look-alike and network patterns with different pore structures were used in the experiments. The results show that the ultimate oil recovery of a water-alternating-solvent (WAS) scheme was greater than that of a simultaneously water-alternating-solvent (SWAS) scheme, and the efficiency of a solvent-soak scheme also offers a greater recovery. Likewise, the WAS scheme resulted in greater oil recovery when compared with continuous solvent injection (CSI), with the same amount of solvent consumption....

    Electrodes made of group VIII and IB metals were examined for their redox process and electrocatalytic activities towards the oxidation of ethylene glycol in alkaline solutions. The method of cyclic voltammetery (CV) and Open circuit potentials measurement (OCP) was employed. It is found that considerable electrooxidation current are observed for silver and copper but lower anodic overpotential for oxidation is obtained for gold and platinum.     In speech production systems, the vocal tract is modeled by a filter and glottal pulse by an excitation signal. In most traditional systems impulse train or noise is used as the excitation. In this paper the effects of different excitation signals on Mel-generalized cepstral filters (LPC, warped LPC, mel cepstral and ML cepstral) are studied.     Network tools have been extensively applied to study the properties of brain functional and anatomical networks. In this paper, resiliency of Caenorhabditis elegans cortical networks against cascaded failures is studied. To this end, directed network formed by chemical connections and undirected network formed by electrical couplings through gap junctions are considered. Furthermore, two types of C. elegans networks are studied: the whole cortical network of the hermaphrodite type and the network of the posterior cortex in male C. elegans.     For a power transfer path, total transfer capability (TTC) represents maximum power that can be transferred over the transmission system.     In this paper, we present a new adaptive contourlet-based steganography method that hides secret data in a specific or automatically selected cover image. Our proposed steganography method primarily decomposes the cover image by contourlet transform.
