Compressive Sensing PAPR Mitigation in OFDM Systems

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Salami Kavaki, Hassan (Author) ; Mashhadi, Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is a digital transmission method developed to meet the increasing demand for higher data rates in communications which can be used in both wired and wireless environments. This thesis describes the issue of the Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) in OFDM system, based on compressed sensing at the receiver of a peak-reducing sparse clipper applied to an OFDM signal at the transmitter. By choosing proper clipping threshold, clipping signal will be sparse so locations, magnitudes, and phases of the clipping signal can be recovered by compressed sensing method. We demonstrate that in the absence of optimization algorithms at the transmitter,...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Salami, Mohsen (Author) ; Manzuri Shalmani, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Localization of electrical activity in the brain is one of the major problems in cognitive science and neuroscience. Indeed, Source localization is the inverse processing procedure on brain signals to estimate the location and position of resources in the human brain. Current technics for neurological imaging is included fMRI، PET، MEG and ERP. These methods is not appropriated to answer the question that when does each of different components of the brain begin their activity. The EEG signals could be useful to eliminate some of limitations of above methods. The problem with EEG signals collected from the skull is that they don’t refer directly to the location of active neurons. The...

    Abstract
A magnetic vanadium oxide nanoparticles supported on spinel copper ferrite (CuFe2O4–VOx) are prepared, characterized, and examined for the peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation to degrade Rhodamine B (RhB) in water solution. Interestingly, the results show that despite the inability of mixture of copper ferrite and vanadium oxides nanoparticles to the effective RhB decomposition, the prepared catalyst exhibits an excellent catalytic ability toward RhB oxidation. The influence of vital parameters, such as temperature, PMS concentration, catalyst loading, and initial pH are discussed comprehensively. The kinetic studies demonstrate that the pseudo-first-order model is well fitted for RhB...

Exploiting Transfer Learning in Deep Neural Networks for Time Series

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Salami, Mohammad Sadegh (Author) ; Manzuri Shalmani, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The importance of transfer learning in image-related problems comes from its many advantages that are sometimes undeniable. Previous researches have well shown the success of transfer learning in this area using deep neural networks. However, transfer learning for time series data has not yet been done in a conventional and automated manner. The main reason for avoiding transfer learning in this domain relates to the dynamic and stochastic nature of the time series, where they show a time-varying behavior. Previous experiments have shown that transfer learning between two heterogeneous time series could harm the forecasting accuracy of a model. Therefore, in this thesis, we aim to explore...

    Abstract
The great attention to cognitive radio networks (CRNs) in recent years, as a revolutionary communication paradigm that aims to solve the problem of spectrum scarcity, prompts serious investigation on security issues of these networks. One important security concern in CRNs is the preservation of users location privacy, which is under the shadow of threat, especially in database-driven CRNs. To this end, in this paper, we propose a Location Privacy Preserving Database-Driven Spectrum-Sharing (L-PDS 2) protocol for sharing the spectrum between PUs and SUs in a database-driven CRN, while protecting location privacy of both primary and secondary users, simultaneously. We also present two...

    Abstract
Since their introduction, Cognitive Radio Networks (CRN), as a new solution to the problem of spectrum scarcity, have received great attention from the research society. An important field in database-driven CRN studies is pivoted on their security issues. A critical issue in this context is user’s location privacy, which is potentially under serious threat. The query process by secondary users (SU) from the database is one of the points where the problem rises. In this paper, we propose a Privacy-Preserving Query Process (PPQP), accordingly. This method lets SUs deal in the process of spectrum query without sacrificing their location information. Analytical assessment of PPQP’s privacy...

    Abstract
This paper studies a two-echelon reverse supply chain (RSC) involving a remanufacturer and a collector, in which the collector receives the used products by paying a reward to consumers. The reward amount given to customers is crucial for encouraging them to exchange used products. An exchanged item is accepted if it meets the minimum acceptable quality level (AQL). Both the remanufacturing capacity and the quality of exchanged products present uncertainties. Under the buyback contract, the remanufacturer purchases used products at a higher price than in the decentralized and centralized cases from the collector. In return, the collector undertakes to repurchase a certain number of used...

    Abstract
The flying agility demonstrated by dragonflies is accomplished by means of complex aerodynamic forces produced by flapping their four wings arranged in a tandem configuration. The current study presents a novel tandem flapping wing mechanism for a biomimetic air vehicle that was designed and manufactured to experimentally investigate the aerodynamic forces. By optimizing the configuration and using spatial network analysis, it is shown that the designed structure can flap the wings in a linear up–down stroke motion and is capable of maintaining good consistency and aerodynamic performance. Such a mechanism could be used in a future biomimetic micro air vehicle (BMAV) design. The mechanism...

Calculation of the Energy Release Rate of Nano-Cracks in FCC Materials Via the Many Body Atomic Scale FEM

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ostad Hossein, Alireza (Author) ; Mohammadi Shodja, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Since the classical continuum theory fails to deal with the problems associated with defects, stress concentrators, and relevant deformation phenomena in solids, alternative approaches that can detect the atomistic nature of materials' fracture are required. The deficiency of the capture the size effect which yields delusively high values for some components of the stress field right on the edge of the stress concentrators, and its weakness in describing the complex interaction between small inhomogeneities, cracks and the like when they are only a few nanometers apart, are among some of the disadvantages of the classical approach. In recent years, however, atomistic methods are emerging to...
