, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bank, Mohammad Mahdi (Author) ; Frounchi, Masuod (Supervisor) ; Dadbin, Susan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
A series of poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) (EVA)-based hot melt adhesives containing either a raw rosin or a hydrogenated rosin ester have been prepared to investigate variation of viscosity, softening point and peel adhesion with composition. Adhesion of the prepared hot melt adhesive to the substrate was characterized by T-peel strength test. Increasing rosin had a prominent effect on the adhesion. Viscosity decreased and softening point increased as the wax content increased. Addition of zinc borate as a flame retardant decreased T-peel energy and increased the viscosity and softening point of the samples. Higher peeling strength accompanied with a good softening point and viscosity...

    Abstract
Blends of the thermoset poly(allyl diglycol carbonate) (PADC) with thermoplastic polymethacrylates have been prepared by dissolving polymethacrylates in allyl diglycol carbonate (ADC) monomer and subsequent polymerization of ADC. The polymethacrylates formed separate phases in the blends as shown by scanning electron micrographs. The dynamic mechanical data showed two distinct high-temperature peaks corresponding to the glass transition temperatures of the PADC and polymethacrylates. Fracture toughness tests showed a significant increase in the critical intensity factor kc of PADC by addition of only 10% (w/w) a ductile thermoplastic poly(ethyl methacrylate). Young's modulus at room...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Frounchi, Milad (Author) ; Medi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Power amplifiers are used as the last block of transmitters. This block can be categorized as the one of most important part in communication systems. However, in transmitter systems which require high power to create stable link with the receivers, fabrication process like CMOS are unable to provide such level of power. Thus, designers employ another group of integrated circuits which names MMIC that offers this capability to designers.
MMIC is the abbreviation of Microwave Integrated Circuit which is implemented in compound substrates like GaAs. Monolithic microwave integrated circuits enable the implementation of amplifiers in small size, large number, with high precision and...

    Abstract
Nanocomposites of poly(ethylene terephthalate) and two different montmorillonite-based organoclays were prepared by a co-rotating twin screw extruder. Dispersion of nanoclays in the polymer matrix was examined by TEM and XRD. Nanocomposites with lower content of organoclay showed exfoliated morphology while by increasing the amount of organoclay the intercalated morphology was more prevalent. Both organoclays had a good intercalation with PET and were uniformly dispersed within the polymer. Oxygen permeability of thin films of nanocomposites showed that the nanocompo-sites had better oxygen barrier properties than the neat PET. Tensile and impact properties of the nanocomposites also were...

    Abstract
Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) is remarkable since its mechanical properties, chemical stability and significant ferroelectricity. This Polymer has a simple chemical structure and can be found in five different crystal phases (α,β ,ɣ,δ and ε). Between these phases, beta shows a substantial pyro and piezoelectric activity since its great dipole moment. In this study PVDF/Poly(vinyl acetate)/Nanodiamond (ND) nanocomposite films were synthetized by solving in dimethylformamide adding ND particles to PVDF/PVAc blend in order to improve mechanical and piezoelectric properties. Scanning electron microscopy results showed that PVDF/PVAc are miscible and lead to a single crystal phase and dispersion...

    Abstract
Poly (vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) nanocomposites were prepared via melt, solution, and co-precipitation mixing methods using Cloisite 30B as organoclay. The results from X-ray diffraction patterns display intercalation or exfoliation of nanoclay depending on the nanocomposite preparation method. The solvent cast and co-precipitated samples showed exfoliation, while intercalation was observed in the nanocomposites prepared by melt mixing. Introducing organoclay induced formation of β-crystals in the PVDF nanocomposites as evidenced by XRD and FT-IR. FT-IR analysis indicated that the samples prepared by the co-precipitation method had a higher tendency for β phase formation, while the sample...

    Abstract
A drug delivery system based on poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) hydrogels containing ibuprofen-loaded poly (lactic acid) (PLA) microspheres was developed to improve the release kinetics of this model drug. Gamma-irradiation and freeze-thawing were applied to prepare poly (vinyl alcohol) hydrogels. Properties and morphology of these composite hydrogels were investigated using FTIR, DSC, and SEM. In vitro release indicated that entrapment of the microspheres into the PVA hydrogels causes a reduction in both the release rate and the initial burst effect. PLA microspheres entrapped into the PVA hydrogels showed more suitable controlled release kinetics for drug delivery
