    Abstract
This study presents a method to determine an equivalent mechanical model (EMM) for multi-baffled containers with arbitrary geometries. The method is implemented for 2D and axisymmetric containers. The Laplace equation and Green's theorem are used to develop the fluid model and the boundary element method (BEM) is used to solve the fluid field governing equation. Moreover, a zoning method is utilized to model arbitrary arrangements of baffles in multi-baffled containers and a reduced order model is developed to model the free-surface sloshing. The exerted hydrodynamic pressure distribution, forces and moments on the walls of the container are determined based on the Bernoulli equation and a...

    Abstract
In this study, the aeroelastic stability and response of an aircraft swept composite wing in subsonic compressible flow are investigated. The composite wing was modeled as an anisotropic thin-walled composite beam with the circumferentially asymmetric stiffness structural configuration to establish proper coupling between bending and torsion. Also, the structural model consists of a number of nonclassical effects, such as transverse shear, material anisotropy, warping inhibition, nonuniform torsional model, and rotary inertia. The finite state form of the unsteady aerodynamic loads have been modeled based on the indicial aerodynamic theory and strip theory in the subsonic compressible flow....

    Abstract
The problem of nonlinear aeroelasticity of a general laminated composite plate in supersonic air flow is examined. The classical plate theory along with the von-Karman nonlinear strains is used for structural modeling, and linear piston theory is used for aerodynamic modeling. The coupled partial differential equations of motion are derived by use of Hamilton's principle and Galerkin's method is used to reduce the governing equations to a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations in time, which are then solved by a direct numerical integration method. Effects of in-plane force, static pressure differential, fiber orientation and aerodynamic damping on the nonlinear aeroelastic...

    Abstract
The free vibrations analysis of liquid sloshing is carried out for arbitrary axisymmetric containers under low-gravity condition using boundary element method. A potential flow theory is used to model the flow field and the free-surface Laplace-Young equation is used to model the surface tension effect. The obtained governing equations are solved using eigenanalysis techniques to determine the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the sloshing liquid. The results for a circular cylindrical container are compared to the analytical values and very good agreement is achieved for the slipping and anchored contact line assumptions. Furthermore, some baffled containers are also analysed and the...

    Abstract
The stability of a viscoelastic plate strip, subjected to an axial load with the Kelvin–Voigt fractional order constitutive relationship is studied. Based on the classical plate theory, the structural formulation of the plate is obtained by using the Newton’s second law and the aerodynamic force due to the fluid flow is evaluated by piston theory. The Galerkin method is employed to discretize the equation of motion into a set of ordinary differential equations. To determine the stability margin of plate the obtained set of ordinary differential equations are solved using the Laplace transform method. The effects of variation of the governing parameters such as axial force, retardation time,...

    Abstract
An existing hydroelastic model is extended for a flat plate subjected to a compression force with spiral spring boundary conditions during water entry. Both vertical and oblique impacts of the plate into calm water are investigated. A longitudinal strip of the plate is analyzed by fully coupling hydrodynamic pressure with elastic responses. Hydrodynamic pressure is determined by potential flow theory and plate deflections are expressed in terms of dry normal modes. The plate deflections are validated through comparison with available asymptotic models, semi-analytical and experimental results. The effect of compression force on the plate deflection is investigated at the midpoint considering...

    Abstract
A two-dimensional semi-analytical model is applied for the analysis of hydroelastic effect during vertical and oblique impacts of flexible inclined plates with different boundary conditions (BCs). Hydrodynamic pressure is calculated using Wagner's theory and the structural deformation is presented as a linear combination of dry normal modes. A longitudinal strip is used as an approximation of the longitudinal bending of a plate. Model predictions are validated by comparing with the available experimental data, semi-analytical model, and asymptotic approaches for vertical and oblique impacts of the plate with different BCs. The water impact is analyzed with two viewpoints of rigid and...

    Abstract
This paper presents a dynamic analytical model for tank train vibrations. The train is considered as a system of 27 degrees of freedom consisting of lateral, roll, yaw, vertical, and pitch motions for the vehicle body and its two bogies and lateral, roll and vertical motions for the four wheel-sets. Liquid sloshing in the tank is modeled using an equivalent mechanical mass-spring model. Coupling between the vehicle system and the railway track is realized through the interaction forces between the train and the rail, where the vertical and lateral irregularity profiles of the track are regarded as stationary ergodic Gaussian random processes and simulated by polynomial functions. Abstract
Free vibration analysis of simply supported FG cylindrical shells for four sets of in-plane boundary conditions is performed. The material properties are assumed to be temperature-dependant and gradually changed in the thickness direction of the shell. The effects of temperature rise are investigated by specifying arbitrary high temperature on the outer surface and the ambient temperature on the inner surface of the cylinder. Distribution of temperature across the shell thickness is found from steady state heat conduction only in the thickness direction. The equations of motion are based on Love's shell theory and the von Karman-Donnell-type of kinematic nonlinearity. The static analysis is...

    Abstract
In this paper, the nonlinear aeroelastic behavior of functionally graded plates is studied in supersonic flow. For this purpose, the von Karman strains and piston theory have been employed to model structural nonlinearity and quasi-steady aerodynamic panel loading, respectively. The material properties of the plate are assumed to be graded continuously in the direction of thickness. The variation of the properties follows a simple power-law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of constituents. The Hamilton's principle is used to construct the coupled nonlinear partial differential equations of motion. The derived equations are transformed into a set of coupled ordinary differential...

    Abstract
The free linear vibration of an adaptive sandwich beam consisting of a frequency and field-dependent magnetorheological fluid core and an axially functionally graded constraining layer is investigated. The Euler-Bernoulli and Timoshenko beam theories are utilized for defining the longitudinal and lateral deformation of the sandwich beam. The Rayleigh-Ritz method is used to derive the frequency-dependent eigenvalue problem through the kinetic and strain energy expressions of the sandwich beam. In order to deal with the frequency dependency of the core, the approached complex eigenmodes method is implemented. The validity of the formulation and solution method is confirmed through comparison...

    Abstract
This paper presents a new reduced-order modeling approach based on boundary element method. In this approach the eigenvalue problem of the unsteady flows is defined based on the unknown wake singularities. By constructing this reduced-order model, the body quasi-static eigenmodes are removed from the eigensystem and it is possible to obtain satisfactory results without static correction technique when enough eigenmodes are used. In addition to the conventional method, Eigenanalysis and reduced-order modeling of unsteady flows over a NACA 0012 airfoil and a wing with NACA 0012 section are performed using this new ROM method. Numerical examples are presented that demonstrate the accuracy and...

    Abstract
This paper aims at developing a modal approach for the non-linear analysis of sloshing in an arbitrary-shape tank under both horizontal and vertical excitations. For this purpose, the perturbation technique is employed and the potential flow is adopted as the liquid sloshing model. The first- and second-order kinematic and dynamic boundary conditions of the liquid-free surface are used along with a boundary element model which is formulated in terms of the velocity potential of the liquid-free surface. The boundary element model is used to determine the natural mode shapes of sloshing and their corresponding frequencies. Using the modal analysis technique, a non-linear model is presented for...

    Abstract
Rubber modification of hoop filament wound epoxy composites was investigated using amine-terminated butadiene acrylonitrile (ATBN) and carboxyl-terminated butadiene acrylonitrile (CTBN) oligomers. Both mechanical and physical properties of modified composites were investigated and the morphology of the samples was studied via scanning electron microscopy. Results indicated that, when added to the epoxy matrix, ATBN effected a superior increase in toughness, yet a more severe decline in compressive and flexural strength, compared to CTBN. In contrast, in the case of composite samples, incorporation of ATBN led to more favorable mechanical properties, from the viewpoint of both toughness and...
