Evaluation of Seismic Performance of Adobe Dome-roof Structures Retrofitted by Steel Rods and Mesh Using Shaking Table Facility

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Yekrang, Mohammad (Author) ; Bakhshi, Ali (Supervisor) ; Ghannad, Mohammad Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Adobe buildings on one hand are very heavy and hence generate great amounts of inertia loads during earthquakes. Their response is also amplified in the high-frequency earthquake waves due to great stiffness. On the other hand, these structures proved vulnerable during past earthquakes because of low strength and ductility. Considering the fact that there are too many structures of this kind throughout the country and a majority of their residents are the poor, seismic retrofitting of these building should be taken as a priority rather than reconstruction. It is obvious that the proposed retrofitting technique should be simple, feasible and economical, as well. Among possible retrofitting...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Yarmohammadi, Ali (Author) ; Shadrokh, Shahram (Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the methods that we used today to manage project are calculating project progress. By which we can calculate the actual progress of project by comparison the actual plan with the schedule plan. If the actual progress, measured with less error, then the control of project done with high accuracy.Project progress are calculated in control account. For this reason, if the number of control account increased, the accuracy of the calculation increased and on the other hand whatever this control account increase the amount of time used to collect information also increases. In this study, we are looking to create mathematical model that in addition increases the accuracy of measurement,also...

Investigation on Seismic Performance of Eccentrically Braced Frames with Vertical Post-tensioned Cables

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Goodarzi Soroush, Adel (Author) ; Kazemi, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Although the moment frame can show deformable behavior against seismic loads, but its flexibility and low stiffness, especially in tall structures, cause the governance criterion to be designed. The use of eccentrically braced frames was able to solve the displacement problem to some extent, because it has the characteristics of both flexural frame systems and conccentric bracing. Different methods have been proposed to eliminate residual displacements in this type of system, one of which is the use of post tensioned cables. The aim of this study was to investigate the seismic behavior of a steel structure with a eccentrically braced frame system with post tension cable. The cables are anchor...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Goodarzi, Bahareh (Author) ; Sarbazi Azad, Hamid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
With the advance of the semiconductor technology, it has been feasible now to fabricate high performance multiprocessor systems-on-chips, containing tens and in the near future hundreds of processing cores. Meanwhile, the diminished technology feature size and high power consumption limit in using previous communication structures such as shared buses. Networks-on-Chip (NoC) have been introduced to obviate these constraints by providing high modularity, scalability and inherent parallelism. Design of these interconnect structures includes multiple tradeoffs between delays, throughput, energy consumption and silicon area requirements. So far, many mechanisms have been proposed to improve the...

An Extension on EVM for Estimating Final Cost of Construction Projects in IRAN

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ganjou haghighi, Negar (Author) ; Bahramgiri, Mohsen (Supervisor)
    Abstract
High rate of failures in construction projects in IRAN and other developing countries shows that current methods for evaluating projects are not reliable and unfailing. The most important criteria for assessing the success of projects is their cost and time performance. Estimate at Completion (EAC) is an important matter, which takes into consideration project performance and future risks in estimating final cost of project. EAC helps project managers to be aware of the final cost of the projects sooner and adopt response strategies. This study constructed an extension on EVM and risk management to develop an evolutionary EAC model to estimate final cost of project. In this model by...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Golchin, Pouya (Author) ; Rahimzadeh Rofouei, Fayyaz (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this study, the changes in the mean vector and the covariance matrix of engineering demand parameter (EDP) distributions for different intensity measures and ground motion selections is evaluated. Although, the changes in the mean distribution of EDPs have been extensively studied in the literature, but the changes in the covariance matrix of EDPs distributions caused by ground motion selections has not been paid the due attention. In other words, no study has specifically looked into the effect of intensity measure changes on the covariance matrix; therefore, for the purpose of this study, several steel frame models were considered with perimeter special moment resisting frames (SMRF)....

Improving the Accuracy of Data Prefetching via Depth Estimation

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Golshan, Fatemeh (Author) ; Sarbazi Azad, Hamid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Data Prefetcher is a central component in most processors. Different methods have been proposed with varying degrees of complexity and effectiveness. Recent research revisits pairwise-correlating data prefetching due to its extremely low overhead. Pairwise-correlating data prefetching, however, cannot accurately detect where data streams end. As a result, pairwise-correlating data prefetchers either expose low accuracy or they lose timeliness when they are performing multi degree prefetching. In this work, we propose a novel technique to detect where data streams end and hence, control the multi-degree prefetching in the context of pairwise-correlated prefetchers. The key idea is to have a...

To achieve this purpose, ownership structure is examined using four measures; cash flow right of the largest shareholder, the wedge between control right and cash flow right of the largest shareholder, difference in cash flow rights of the largest two...

Evaluation of Porous Asphalt Pavements in Urban Areas

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Koohmishi, Mehdi (Author) ; Tabatabaee, Nader (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Open graded asphalt mixturesareasphaltic mixes used in flexible pavements and the mainadvantages of them are increased permeability and noise reduction. Conventional application of these mixtures in flexible pavement is like that fluids infiltrate into porous asphalt layer that places over a dense graded asphalt layer and then draintoward ditches along the two sides of the road. Another usage of these mixtures, considered in recent years, is in porous pavements that the structure permits water on the surface topass freely through it and to infiltrateinto thesubsoil. In this research, second application of open graded asphalt mixtures is considered, i.e., porous asphalt pavement. In this type...

Control of Nonlinear Systems With Predefined Output Transient Performance

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Kamal Amiri, Ali (Author) ; Shahrokhi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This project is aimed to design a controller for nonlinear systems that satisfy a prescribed performance while guaranteeing close-loop stability. To do this, the controller must be designed in such a way that the transient response of the system has had these performance indices and does not exceed them. These performance indices predefine some constraints for systems’ output.A comprehensive form for the model system, the unknown dynamics of the system, consideration of a variety of constraints on the system input, usage of the time-finite method for the residence time and consideration of just one tuning parameter to reduce the computation load, are among the other benefits for the proposed...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Kereshyar, Ali (Author) ; Haji, Alireza (Supervisor) ; Mostafavi, Mostafa (Co-Supervisor) ; Hosseini, Hossein (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the main goals in large projects with multiple contractors is to reduce costs in various processes. The complexity of a large project, which is mainly due to the complexity of activities and the existence of interference between different phases and the lack of transparency of activities, can be added to the multiplicity of contractors and the difficulty of proper interface management. As regards that large projects with a large scope of work, have to use several contractors and this issue has a direct impact on increasing project costs, large project management becomes a major challenge that the application of appropriate knowledge, improving processes and skills and tools can play a...

Study of the Effect of Strip Opening on the Sides of the Steel Plate Shear Wall

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Kavei, Sina (Author) ; Khaloo, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the lateral-load bearing systems that has been recommended since almost 40 years ago is the steel plate shear wall (SPSW) system, which consists of a steel plate surrounded by beams and columns in each story. As for the performance of SPSWs, it is assumed that the boundary members of the wall’s plate, i.e. beams and columns, have sufficient stiffness and strength, so that they would not yield by the tensile stresses exerted due to the post-buckling behavior of the plate (tension field); and the global stability of the structure is still maintained. This assumption leads to significantly increased dimensions of the sections applied in the wall’s boundary members, particularly its...
