, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rastegar, Soroush (Author) ; Bagheri, Habib (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Electrospinning is a simple and versatile technique for producing polymeric and ceramic nanofibers. The conventional procedure for fabrication of ceramic nanofibers is a combination of sol-gel techniques and electrospinning. The main challenge is the spin polymer nanofiber in fabricate of fibers with diameter from 1 to 100 nm, while their standard deviation are as low as possible. Uniform beads free polyamidenanofibers with lower diameter were fabricated.A 18% w/w of polyamide in formic acid was chosen and the effect of magnetic field, adding magnetic ionic liquid surfactant, auxiliary electrode on the main fiber were investigated. They termsfiber 1 to fiber 5. The mean diameters of 489,...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Alemi, Bita (Author) ; Mohammadi Shodja, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays, by adding a small amount of a desired nanomaterial to a matrix having certain properties one may design a multifunctional nanocomposites with a remarkably improved macroscopic properties of interest. The capability of conventional continuum theories in treating the problems of embedded ultra-small inhomogeneity with any of its dimensions comparable to the characteristic lengths of the involved constituent phases is questioned, mainly, on the grounds of the accuracy and the size effect. In this work, effort is firstly directed at the prediction of the macroscopic shear modulus of composites consisting of nano-/micro-size fibers of elliptic cross-sections via couple stress theory, a...

Design & Synthesis of ZnO-based Composite Nanofiber Photocatalysts with Z-Scheme Structure for Degradation of Organic Pollutants

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Naseri, Amene (Author) ; Moshfegh, Alireza (Supervisor) ; Pourjavadi, Ali (Supervisor) ; Mahmoodi, Niaz Mohammad (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
The aim of conducting this research is to study, fabrication and photocatalytic application of electrospun ZnO-based composite nanofibers. One of the most important challenges is to apply photocatalyst under solar irradiation and improve its activity for pollutant degradation. ZnO is a wide band gap semiconductor, hence, it is not active under the visible light. In Iran, we have at least 300 sunny days in a year. Therefore, fabrication and application of photocatalytic material with activity under the sunlight which contains 47% of visible light is so vital in our country. Since CuO is a visible light active photocatalyst and its interface with ZnO forms a type I heterojunction, this...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Fardindoost, Somayeh (Author) ; Iraji Zad, Azam (Supervisor) ; Sarvari, Reza (Supervisor) ; Mohajerzadeh, Shamsoddin (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis we present fabrication, characterization, and experimental results describing electrical actuation and readout of the mechanical vibratory response of PVP, graphene-doped and ZnO fibers by employing electrical actuation. For a fiber resonator with an approximate radius of 850 nm and length of 100 µm, we observed a resonance frequency around 580 kHz with a quality factor (Q) of about 2511 in air at ambient conditions. Through the use of finite element simulations, we show that the reported frequency of resonance is relevant. Also, the measurements were performed in an enclosed chamber with controlled levels of ethanol vapor. The adsorption of ethanol causes a shift in the...

    Abstract
Molybdenum is one of the important elements of the intermediary metal with atomic number 42, which is used in various industries, but among the important uses of this metal in the nuclear industry, we can mention the presence of this element in the production of yellow cake as an impurity and also as a precursor for the production of radiopharmaceuticals. It is one of the impurities that remain in all stages of yellow cake production along with uranium, and the high presence of this element causes the centrifuges to become unbalanced during the injection of "U" "F" _"6" gas, and on the other hand, technetium, the main ingredient in the production of radiopharmaceuticals, It comes from the...

Behavior of Composites Containing Multi-coated Nano-fibers with Interfacial Damage in Couple Stress Theory

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Hashemian, Behdad (Author) ; Mohammadi Shodja, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
It is well-known that classical continuum theory has certain deficiencies in capturing the size effects and predicting the nanoscopic behavior of materials in the vicinity of nano-inhomogeneities and nano-defects with reasonable accuracy. Couple stress theory which is associated with an internal length scale for the medium is one of the higher order continuum theories capable of overcoming such difficulties. Since most reinforcements may not be perfectly bonded to their surrounding matrix, the perfect bonding condition is often inadequate in describing the physical and mechanical behavior of real composite materials. In this work, the problem of a nano-size fiber embedded in an unbounded...

Surface/Interface Effects on The Scattering of In-Plane Elastic Waves by a Multi-Coated Nanofiber

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Taheri Jam, Masoud (Author) ; Mohammadi Shodja, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In the framework of surface elasticity theory, the scattering of in-plane elastic waves by a multicoated nanofiber embedded in an elastic matrix is studied. Atoms near an interface experience a local environment different from it within the bulk. Going from macro to nano dimensions, surface to volume ratio increases significantly. Thus, on this scale it is important to consider the surface/interface properties as well as the bulk properties. In this dissertation, the surface/interface is modeled by a very thin layer in which the traction and displacement are discontinuous. Effects of surface/interface parameters on the dynamic stress concentration factor (DSCF) and scattering cross section...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Zarei, Mohammad Mahdi (Author) ; Moosavi, Ali (Supervisor) ; Nouri Borujerdi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Capturing the atmospheric CO2 and turning it into value added products is a topic that has been extensively studied in recent years. One of the methods through which CO2 is valorized is via converting it into carbon nanofiber, CNFs. CNFs can be an important material in future human activities due to its valuable properties such as wide range of electrical conductivity, their superior flexibility and strength, But it is currently obstructed in use due to the high cost of manufacturing and the complexity of the synthesis. Furthermore, in today's world, human life is heavily influenced by greenhouse gases, and avoiding emitting gases like CO2, is almost infeasible. This thesis provides an...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rezvan, Gelareh (Author) ; Bagheri, Reza (Supervisor) ; Pircheraghi, Gholamreza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Wound is a defect or failure in the skin texture which occurs as a result of physical or heat injuries or physiological conditions. The wound dress as a temporary cover can improve wound healing process and due to the unique properties, hydrogels have become appropriate choice for this application. Hydrogel’s structure allows drug to be loaded in the wound dress. Hydrogel wound dress should have adequate fluidity to cover wound’s bed and make full contact with the skin. Sufficient cohesion and strength is also necessary to allow the wound dress to remove from wound completely. Therefore, the study on the viscoelastic properties of hydrogel is important. In this study, polyvinyl alcohol...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ghasemi, Amir (Author) ; Bagheri, Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Due to the negative effects of conventional plastics on the environment, especially in the packaging sector, extensive efforts have been put to replace these polymers with biodegradable polymers. Starch is one of the biodegradable polymers which has attracted a lot of attentions because of low cost and good process ability. Native starch has the form of granule and can be processed to a continuous phase after gelatinization in the presence of a plasticizer. The resulting material is a biodegradable plastic-like material called thermoplastic starch (TPS) which is processed using conventional technologies, but suffers from low mechanical properties and high hydrophilicity. Addition of...
