, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Moshtaghi, Behnam (Author) ; Ahmadian, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The injection process on cell is a very accurate and sensitive operation. This method is used for several new invented approaches such as tracytoplasmic Cell Injection or drug delivery. Controlling the injection force in micro scale is one of the problems of mentioned operations. Current huge and expensive laboratorial devices are helping the operators to do injection operation with :nore success. In this study a simple and novel microelectromechanical (MEMS) mechanism for doing injection process automatically on the biological cells is proposed. In order to controlling this device properly, we should model and simulate the operation condition from initial position to final condition. This...

Development of a Kinetic Model for Thermal Cracking of Aromatic Hydrocarbon Feeds

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rezaei Babadi, Ebrahim (Author) ; Khorasheh, Farhad (Supervisor) ; Ivakpour, Javad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Most refineries are looking for a process in order to remove heavy compounds and convert them into lighter, more valuable materials. Among the various remaining upgrade processes, non-catalytic heating processes are very attractive and have gotten a wider scope worldwide because the feed used for the upgrade process is high in metal and sulfur, which causes the catalyst surface to become toxic and inactive. Due to that, the thermal cracking process is more suitable for such feeds than the catalytic cracking process. Due to the reduction of sweet crude oil resources and the heavier refinery feeds and increase in amount of global fuel needs, refineries must process a larger share of feed in...

State Plane Analysis and Optimization of CLLC Resonant Converter for Bidirectional EV Charger

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Rezayati, Mohsen (Author) ; Tahami, Farzad (Supervisor) ; Schanen, Jean-Luc (Supervisor)
    Abstract
As more renewables step in, the ongoing change will be drastic for the electrical grid. The energy sector must find new ways to balance energy production and consumption. Electric vehicle (EV) batteries are by far the most cost-efficient form of energy storage since they require no additional investments in hardware. A bidirectional EV charger is a new technology that enables energy to be pushed back to the power grid and auxiliary loads from the battery. The electrical requirements of the EV charger are examined in detail to find an appropriate power electronics converter to meet all the requirements. The CLLC resonant converter is a promising candidate for high efficient, bidirectional...

Inter-Beat and Intra-Beat ECG Interval Analysis Based on State Space and Hidden Markov Models

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Akhbari, Mahsa (Author) ; Shamsollahi, Mohammad Bagher (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Cardiovascular diseases are one of the major causes of mortality in humans. One way to diagnose heart diseases and abnormalities is processing of cardiac signals such as ECG.In many of these processes, inter-beat and intra-beat features of ECG signal must be extracted. These features include peak, onset and offset of ECG waves, meaningful intervals and segments that can be defined for ECG signal. ECG fiducial point (FP) extraction refers to identifying the location of the peak as well as the onset and offset of the P-wave,QRS complex and T-wave which convey clinically useful information. However, the precise segmentation of each ECG beat is a difficult task, even for experienced...

Modeling Electrical Activities of the Brain and Analysis of the EEG in General Anesthesia

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Molaee Ardakani, Behnam (Author) ; Shamsollahi, Mohammad Bagher (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, an enhanced local mean-field (MF) model that is suitable for simulating the electroencephalogram (EEG) in different depths of anesthesia is presented. The main building elements of the model (e.g. excitatory and inhibitory populations) are taken from two pioneer MF models designed by Steyn-Ross et al and Bojak & Liley, and then a new slow ionic mechanism is included in the main model. Generally, in mean-field models, some sigmoid-shape functions determine firing rates of neural populations according to their mean membrane potentials. In the enhanced model, the sigmoid function corresponding to excitatory population is redefined to be also a function of the slow ionic...

Developing an Interactive Simulation Environment for Improving Time and Cost Planning of Building Projects using Combined BIM-VR Technologies

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Amirabadizadeh, Reza (Author) ; Alvanchi, Amin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Despite advancements in Building Information Modeling (BIM) in the construction industry, issues such as the intangibility of building models and a lack of interaction and opinion-sharing still exist. The integration of Virtual Reality with BIM has rectified these problems. Quantity surveying, material estimation, solving design problems during modeling and preparing a building model containing information are some of the advantages of using BIM in this research. Alongside BIM, VR tools were employed as a mean to increase interaction with the user, boost marketing and pre-sales, create alternative options for building components, and estimate cost and time. Following the development of a...

Data-Driven Uncertainty Quantification and Propagation in Structural Dynamics Inverse Problems

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Sedehi, Omid (Author) ; Rahimzadeh Rofooei, Fayaz (Supervisor) ; Katafygiotis, Lambros (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This study opens up new horizons in data-driven structural identification methods offering extensive improvements over the existing time-/frequency-domain probabilistic methods. It pushes forward a holistic Bayesian statistical framework to integrate the existing formulations under a hierarchical setting aiming to quantify both the identification precision and the ensemble variability prompted due to model errors. Since the computation of the posterior distributions in hierarchical models is expensive and cumbersome, novel marginalization strategies, asymptotic approximations, and maximum a posteriori estimations are proposed offering mathematical formulations for the uncertainty...

Credit Risk and Credit Derivatives :Mathematical Modeling and Numerical Simulation

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Zargari, Behnaz (Author) ; Zohuri Zangeneh, Bijan (Supervisor) ; Jeanblanc, Monique (Supervisor) ; Zamani, Shiva (Co-Advisor) ; Crépey, Stéphane (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
This thesis deals with credit derivatives modeling and consists of two parts:The first part concerns the density model, recently proposed by El Karoui et al. [46], where the standing assumption is that the conditional law of default time given the reference filtration is equivalent to its (non-conditional) law. Under this assumption, we provide alternative (and simpler) proofs for some existing results in the theory of initial and progressive enlargement of filtrations. Also, we present some new results such as the predictable representation theorem for progressively enlarged filtration in the multidimensional case. We then propose several methods to construct density models, in both...

An Integrated Formal Method for Specification and Verification of Component-Based Systems

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Izadi, Mohammad (Author) ; Movaghar Rahimabadi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This thesis presents an integrated formal method for modeling and model checking of component based computing systems. Both components and coordination subsystems are modeled by a variant of standard labeled transition systems called record transition systems. A record transition system is a labeled transition system whose transition labels are records. We use records to model the concurrency of input – output operations in the ports of the system. The concurrency of the executions with respect to common transition labels are modeled by standard parallel composition operator and also a new defined operator called join which is analogous to the join operator defined to compose constraint...

Growth kinetic Analysis of Biosurfactant Producing Bacteria for Oil Reservoir Enhance Oil Recovery

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Maghsoudi, Ehsan (Author) ; Roosta Azad, Reza (Supervisor) ; Yaghmaei, Soheyla (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Evidently, environment contamination by water insoluble chemicals present at the industrial wastes could bring about catastrophic consequences to the biosphere. Biological based cleaning technologies are commonly considered as a practical remedy to remove these contaminations. In fact, these techniques are founded on the ability of certain microorganisms to degrade the contaminants. It is crystal clear that the availability of contaminants to the microorganisms is an essential parameter determining the final efficiency of the biodegradation process. In practice, the limited solubility of the contaminants in the aqueous phase leads to mass transfer constraints which consequently, decrease the...

    Modeling Employee’s Preference for Telecommuting

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nowrouzian, Roosbeh (Author) ; Kermanshah, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This study examines four models of the individual’s preference for home- and center-based telecommuting. Issues concerning the estimation of discrete models when the alternatives are non-exclusive are discussed. Two binary logit models are presented, one on the preference to telecommute from a center versus not telecommuting from a center, and the other on the preference to telecommute from a center over telecommuting from home. A model is also estimated on the following four alternatives: preferring not to telecommute, preferring either form of telecommuting, preferring to telecommute from home, and preferring to telecommute from a center. A comprehensive model of two distinct dimensions of...

Design of a Model Airplane with Fluidic Thrust Vectoring Control

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hedayatzadeh Razavi, Alireza (Author) ; Saghafi, Fariborz (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Thrust vector control as a method toward increasing of the aircrafts’ maneuverability and expanding the flight envelope into poor aerodynamic conditions, is considered a major field of academic and industrial appeal. Older methods based upon an approach of utilizing a mechanical instrument, impose quite a large amount of cost onto the design, prototyping and operation of the aircraft, even though they lead to improve in maneuverability. Having taken these setbacks into account, to simplify the manufacturing process and to reduce the thrust losses due to mechanical control of the thrust vector, the direction of research was set toward realizing and employing the flow control procedures. In...

Metaphysics of Bohm-Bub's Modal Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Yaghmaie, Aboutorab (Author) ; Shafiee, Afshin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
According to modal interpretations of quantum mechanics, a state possesses definite values even if it is not an eigenstate. On the other hand, Kochen-Specker theorem holds that all possible possessed values by a system can not be definite. Consequently, modal interpretations to block this theorem, take new metaphysics of properties. In this dissertation, I will show that dispositionalism is that metaphysics. According to dispositionalism, causal powers of a property are constituents of the property. As regards this outline, the thesis would be divided into 5 chapters. In chapter one, presuppositions of later arguments are clarified. Chapter two is related to algebra of properties and finally...

    Abstract
Facility location decisions play a prominent role in strategic planning of many firms, companies and governmental organizations. Since in many real-world facility location problems, the data are subject to uncertainty, in this thesis, we consider the P-center problem under uncertainty of demand nodes. Using Bertsimas and Sim approach, we modeled the problem as a linear optimization model. Furthermore, we develop a tabu search algorithm to solve the problem. Finally we designed some experiments to adjust the parameters of tabu search algorithm. We presented the numerical result accordingly

Evaluation of Energy-Based Modal Pushover Analysis in Reinforced Concrete Structures, with Elevation Irregularity

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hashemi, Mohammad Javad (Author) ; Mofid, Masoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The method of nonlinear time history analysis is well known as one of the most accurate techniques in seismic analysis of structures. However, this method needs much effort in terms of required data and computational cost. Within the time constrains of design consulting firms, more simple analysis tools are also desirable. One of the simple methods which have been gaining ground, as an alternative to time history analysis, is nonlinear static pushover analysis. In this method, the capacity curve of the structure with respect to the roof displacement is established. In nonlinear static pushover analysis, disproportionate increases in the roof displacement and even outright reversals the...
