    , Article Heliyon ; Volume 8, Issue 11 , 2022 ; 24058440 (ISSN) Aghayari, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2022
    Abstract
Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) has special piezo/pyro/ferroelectric, flexibility, low weight, biocompatibility, economical, good chemical/thermal, and high mechanical properties, such as excellent nontoxic fiber/film formation. It has polar and nonpolar phases of α, β, γ, ε, and δ, in which the nonpolar α phase is the most stable one. However, the β phase is the best because it has good piezo/pyro/ferroelectric properties. Copolymers are attractive due to their low weight, nontoxic, chemical acid resistance, flexibility, and ease of processing. These aspects result in their applications in many fields. They are used for piezoelectric nanogenerators, cooling/heating sensors, electronic...

    Abstract
The employment of tissue engineering scaffolds in the reconstruction of the damaged bone tissues has shown remarkable promise since they significantly facilitate the healing process. Fabrication of highly porous biocompatible scaffolds with sufficient mechanical strength is still challenging. In this regard, polymers have been widely utilized to construct three-dimensional (3D) porous scaffolds due to their excellent processability and biocompatibility. However, insufficient mechanical strength and inappropriate degradation rate of the monophasic polymer scaffolds in the bone regeneration process, as the main challenges, limit their extensive clinical application. The incorporation of...

Designing Z2 and Z2× Z2 topological orders in networks of Majorana bound states

    , Article Physical Review B ; Volume 105, Issue 16 , 2022 ; 24699950 (ISSN) Mohammadi, F ; Kargarian, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Topological orders have been intrinsically identified in a class of systems such as fractional quantum Hall states and spin liquids. Accessing such states often requires extreme conditions such as low temperatures, high magnetic fields, pure samples, etc. Another approach would be to engineer the topological orders in systems with more accessible ingredients. In this work, we present networks of Majorana bound states, which are currently accessible in semiconductor nanowires proximitized to conventional superconductors, and show that the effective low-energy theory is topologically ordered. We first demonstrate the main principles in a lattice made of Kitaev superconducting chains comprising...

    Abstract
Lithium batteries have been widely used to power up implantable medical devices such as pacemakers that are often designed to treat, diagnose, and prevent different diseases. However, due to their limited capacity and lifetime, patients have to undergo a surgical procedure to replace the discharged battery. Recently, nanogenerators have been emerged and are broadly accepted since they can convert tiny biomechanical forces, such as heartbeats, into electrical energy. This study aims to manufacture a biocompatible and high-performance piezoelectric energy harvester (PEH) that is capable to be charged by the energy received from the heartbeat and store the generated voltage. In this research, a...

    Abstract
A straightforward three-stage method was applied to fabricate a super-hydrophobic mixed-matrix nanofiber membrane using the electrospinning method for desalination purpose. First, a hydrothermal technique was applied to synthesize a super-hydrophobic nano-sheet, called octadecylamine-reduced graphene oxide (ODA-rGO) with a water contact angle of 162°, which was then added to PVDF-HFP dope solution. After, 0.005 wt% LiCl was added to the dope solution to decrease the mean pore size by increasing solution conductivity. Moreover, some membranes were hot-pressed to improve liquid entry pressure (LEP). Eventually, a top-quality nanofiber membrane was synthesized using 0.1 wt% ODA-rGO and 0.005...
