    Abstract
    In this thesis, ionic liquids and polymeric ionic liquids were investigated as solvent and support for immobilization of molybdenum and palladium catalysts. Three newly synthesized room temperature ionic liquids containing molybdate anion, [DMIm][MoO2(NCS)4], [RPy][MoO2(NCS)4] (R = butyl or decyl), and previously reported [BMIm][MoO2(NCS)4] were used as catalysts for the reduction of sulfoxides. For facilitating the recyclability of the catalysts, the ionic liquid solvents, [RMIm][PF6] and [RPy][PF6] (RMIm=1-n-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium, RPy= 1-n-alkylpyridinium), were applied to immobilize molybdenum catalysts.     In this project a new molybdenum (VI) complex with tetradentate Schiff base ligand which was soluble in water was synthesized and characterized. In the first step of ligand synthesis, the reaction was performed between salicylaldehyde and aniline, and then used concentrated sulfuric acid for sulfonation. In the next step 5- sulfosalicylaldehyde sodium salt was formed by removing of aniline with heating and using sodium carbonate. In these catalysts, magnetic nanoparticles were coated with defferent fuctional groups to produce a catalyst with magnetic properties which is easily separated from the reaction medium.     Three Keggin-type heteropolyacids were impregnated upon halloysite to produce heterogeneous acidic catalysts for synthesizing 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF). Comparing the effectiveness of variously prepared catalysts in producing 5-HMF from fructose revealed the important role of halloysite in the final catalyst's acidic properties and performance in the reaction of halloysite-supported silicotungstic acid. Adjusting the reaction parameters for obtaining optimal results for the catalyst of choice was conducted via Response Surface Methodology and it was found that use of catalyst with 11 wt.% active ingredient at 125 °C in DMSO solvent yielded the target compound with 99.5% after 43 min....

    Epoxidation of alkenes by Mn(III)meso-tetra(4-sulfonatophenyl)porphyrin chloride (MnTPPS4Cl) in the various homogeneous and heterogeneous catalytic systems was investigated. In the case of homogeneous catalysis, epoxidation of cyclooctene in CH2Cl2/MeOH mixture using urea hydrogen peroxide (UHP) as an oxidant and imidazole as a co-catalyst results in the formation of cycloocetene oxide in 87% yield. Using this catalytic system various alkenes successfully oxidized to their corresponding epoxide in high conversions and selectivity. Cyclic alkenes oxidized more easily than linear alkenes.     We have reported a new and efficient synthesis of tetrahydrothiopyrano [2,3-b]indole skeletons via unique tandem reaction of indoline-2-thiones to Baylis-Hillman adduct acetates. This protocol is a very mild and simple method for construction heterocycles in a one-step process. This is a convenient and diastereoselective synthesis of methyl 4-aryl-2,3,4,9-tetrahydrothiopyrano[2,3-b]indole-3-carboxylate systems in the presence of K2CO3 in acetonitrile.     Water-gas shift reaction (CO(g) + H2O(g) ↔ CO2(g) + H2(g)) is performed as the key step in the hydrogen and ammonia industrial plant. In this work, Fe/Cr/Cu high temperature water gas shift catalysts were synthesized by coprecipitation method, using sulfate precursors, in order to improve the catalytic performance and particular emphasis is placed on the catalytic activity affected by aging time, precipitating agent and ways of increasing the mechanical strength.
