    Abstract
Li2FeSiO4 was synthesized through Sol–Gel method and the effect of calcination temperature, time and chelating agent concentration were investigated. Appropriate calcination temperature above 550 °C was determined by TG/DTA analysis. Afterward, the dried gel powder was calcined at each temperature of 650 °C, 700 °C and 750 °C for 1, 2 and 3 h. XRD studies illustrated the most appropriate calcination temperature of 700 °C for 1 h. To compare the effect of chelating agent concentration, citric acid with molar ratio of 1/3, 2/3 and 1 were used which 1/3 was determined as the best concentration. FE-SEM observation showed that mean grain is size lower than 100 nm. By using this material, a three...

Understanding non-ideal voltage behaviour of cathodes for lithium-ion batteries

    , Article Journal of Materials Chemistry A ; Vol. 2, issue. 45 , Sep , 2014 , p. 19451-19460 Kalantarian, M. M ; Oghbaei, M ; Asgari, S ; Ferrari, S ; Capsoni, D ; Mustarelli, P ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
One of the most relevant negative characteristics of high-capacity cathodes for lithium batteries is indeed non-flat voltage-time (V-t) or voltage-capacity (V-C) behaviour during charge-discharge. A clear rationale for this behaviour has not yet been addressed in the literature. Here, by means of density functional theory (DFT) calculations corroborated by basic experimental electrochemical characterization, we investigated both the thermodynamic and the kinetic aspects relevant to voltage variations during charge-discharge of Li2FeSiO4 intended as a model case. A simple physical model allowed us to take into account all the experimental evidence. We suggested that voltage deviations from...

    Abstract
The one-pot synthesis of several secondary amines and secondary amino esters are reported. Treatment of aldehydes (aliphatic or aromatic) with (trimethylsilyl)alkylamines, in the presence of 5 M lithium perchlorate in diethyl ether gives intermediate imines. Reaction of these intermediate imines with different nucleophiles and functionalized organozinc reagents, BrZnCH2COOR, produce a variety of secondary amines and N-alkyl- or N-arylamino esters in good yields. © 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. Lithium Recovery from Brine Sources of Iran by Precipitation Method

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jandaghi, Mohammad Reaz (Author) ; Askari, Masoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Lithium is one of the most commonly used metals in industry with a wide variety of applications including batteries, lubricating grease and pharmaceutical products. Demand for lithium is expected to rise with the increasing adoption of electric vehicles. Market reports have predicted that world lithium demand will increase by 2.5 times from 2010 to 2020. Therefore, there is a pressing need to develop new sources of lithium to support this anticipated increase in demand. Lithium can be extracted from salt brine and lithium containing minerals as lithium compounds.
Salt brines are the most abundant lithium sources available in the world, comprising about 60% of all known lithium deposits....

    Abstract
A simple and efficient synthesis of diol diesters, protected chlorohydrins, chlorohydrins and β-hydroxy azides with acetyl or benzoyl, TMSN3 and TMSCl groups has been achieved by ring opening of epoxides with acetic anhydride, acetyl chloride or benzoyl chloride and TMSN3 using catalytic amount of lithium perchlorate under solvent-free conditions. All reactions proceeded in short times and afforded the corresponding products in good to excellent yields under mild reaction conditions. LiClO4 shows enhanced reactivity for the ring opening of epoxides under solvent-free conditions, therefore, reducing the reaction times dramatically and improved the yields and amount of catalyst. © 2007...

Corrosion of Aluminum Foil (99% Purity) in Lithium Ion Batteries with Lithium Hexafluorophosphate Electrolyte ()

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hemmati Saznaghi, Maryam (Author) ; Ghorbani, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Riyahifar, Reza (Co-Supervisor) ; Raeesi, Babak (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the problems that affects the lifetime and cycle life of lithium ion batteries is the localized corrosion of aluminum current collector (during the storage and charging cycle). Since applying corrosion-resistant coating has always been one of the ways to reduce corrosion of materials in different environments, in the present project, this method has been used to prevent corrosion of aluminum in lithium-ion batteries. For this purpose, the graphene oxide coating, which has desirable anti-corrosion properties, was coated on aluminum by Electrophoretic deposition and doctor blade methods. linear polarization, cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy were performed to...

A theoretical approach to evaluate the rate capability of Li-ion battery cathode materials

    , Article Journal of Materials Chemistry A ; Vol. 2, issue. 1 , 2014 , pp. 107-115 ; ISSN: 20507488 Kalantarian, M. M ; Asgari, S ; Mustarelli, P ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Charge-discharge rate capability is one of the most important properties of cathode materials for lithium batteries, in particular when envisaging high power density applications such as automotive applications. Efforts to modify rate have been carried out by carbon coating and decreasing particle size in order to modify electronic and ionic conductivity. However, this approach cannot justify all experimental data reported in the literature. Here, we investigated the rate capability of cathode materials by considering their density of states (DOS) calculated by several density functional theory (DFT) methods, in both the lithiated and the delithiated case. We suggested that these structures...

Synthesis of anodized TIO2 nanotube arrays as ion sieve for lithium extraction

    , Article ChemistrySelect ; Volume 5, Issue 33 , 2020 , Pages 10339-10345 Taghvaei, N ; Taghvaei, E ; Askari, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Wiley-Blackwell  2020
    Abstract
Titanium type lithium ion-sieve nanotubes synthesized by the hydrothermal method were extensively explored over recent years due to its promising properties. However, on account of nanotubes′ tangled structure impeding the lithium adsorption in the interior nanotube walls, unalterable dimensions of the synthesized nanotubes, and a long period of annealing, the anodizing technique was proposed. It is shown that lithium uptake and adsorption capacity is improved because of easier mass transfer during the ion exchange process. This work focuses on a novel anodizing method for nanotube ion-sieve synthesis. The optimum anodizing condition was discovered by altering anodizing voltage, time, and...
