The amount of deposited SiO2 was examined by X-ray energy dispersive analysis. The results showed that for the coating produced at 12.5 g/L of nanoparticles, the amount of co-deposited SiO2 nanoparticles and microhardness reached their maximal...

    Abstract
Nickel-Boron-Titania (Ni-B-TiO2) composite coatings were successfully obtained on mild steel (St-37) by simultaneous electroless deposition. TiO2 particles were dispersed in a suspension by ultrasonic irradiation. The surface morphology, particle size, elemental composition and phase analysis of the coatings were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), inductively coupled plasma (ICP) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The hardness and friction coefficient of as- plated and heat treated Ni-B and Ni-B-TiO2 composite coatings were determined by Vickers diamond indentation and indentation scratch tests and compared with Ni-B coatings. As a result, the hardness (1263 HV) of the as-plated...

    Abstract
The corrosion inhibition effect of zinc acetylacetonate (ZAA) and benzothiazole (BTH) mixture was evaluated for mild steel in 3.5% NaCl solution. To this end, ZAA:BTH mixtures ranged from 6:1 to 1:6 mol ratios were examined by weight loss and open circuit potential to obtain optimal mole ratio. The optimal mixture of ZAA:BTH at 1:5 mol ratio showed a significant corrosion inhibition efficiency proved by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and polarization studies. The addition of the optimal mixture of ZAA:BTH to epoxy coating showed a considerable increase of corrosion protection evaluated by salt spray exposure

The optimum deposition current density of 4 A dm-2 and agitation speed of 450 rpm were obtained. The effect of sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) anionic surfactant on the amount of particles in the coatings was investigated. It was observed that the maximum amount of incorporated particles, with a value of 7.5% by volume, was created in the current...

Effects of the hardened nickel coating on the fatigue behavior of CK45 steel: experimental, finite element method, and artificial neural network modeling

    , Article Iranian Journal of Materials Science and Engineering ; Volume 14, Issue 4 , 2017 , Pages 81-99 ; 17350808 (ISSN) Maleki, E ; Kashyzadeh, K. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Hardened nickel coating is widely used in many industrial applications and manufacturing processes because of its benefits in improving the corrosion fatigue life. It is clear that increasing the coating thickness provides good protection against corrosion. However, it reduces the fatigue life. Thus, applying a thin layer of coated nickel might give an acceptable corrosion protection with minimum loss of the fatigue life. In the present study, the effects of hardened nickel coating with different thicknesses on the fatigue behavior of CK45 mild steel were experimentally investigated. After conducting the experimental tests, we carried out two different modeling approaches of finite element...

    Abstract
Thermal-sprayed MCrAlY coatings have become widespread in various industries such as power plants, aeronautics, and oil and gas firms. High-temperature oxidation behavior of these coatings is therefore of significance. Spraying of two prevalent MCrAlY powders (NiCoCrAlY and CoNiCrAlY) on Hastelloy substrate by high velocity oxygen and fuel method and exposing them to 1000 °C air for resolving of their cyclic oxidation behavior are presented in this paper. The coatings were characterized by x-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy. The obtained oxidation kinetic indicated that at 1000 °C, the thermally sprayed NiCoCrAlY coating has greater...

    Abstract
This work introduces a new gradient fiber coating for microextraction of chlorobenzenes. Nanoclusters of organoclay-Cu(II) on a copper wire were fabricated by wireless electrofunctionalization. The resultant gradient coatings are more robust, and thermally and mechanically stable. Wireless electrofunctionalization was carried out in a bipolar cell under a constant deposition potential and using an ethanolic electrolyte solution containing stearic acid and montmorillonite. Stearic acid acts as an inexpensive and green coating while montmorillonite acts as a modifier to impart thermal stability. The gradient morphology of the nanoclusters was investigated by scanning electron microscopy,...

Results showed a slight increase in tin content and a promising increase in hardness of bronze coating by a decrease in duty cycle at constant average current density. Both tin content of the coating and grain refinement seem to participate in hardness enhancement. By increasing the...

    Abstract
In this study, the LDH containing a kind of green inhibitor (sodium molybdate) was synthesized and utilized in a poly-vinyl alcohol (PVA) base coating applied on the aluminum (5054 series) surface. After evaluating the LDH performance, the inhibitor release from the LDH crystals was examined by changing significant parameters like MII/MIII (the molar ratio of divalent ions into trivalent ions), pH, aging time and temperature. In order to find the kinetic release of intercalated inhibitor a prediction model was introduced in 3.5% NaCl solution. The model expressed that the pH as the processing parameter has special effect on the kinetic releasing of the inhibitor. It can enhance the amount of...

    Abstract
Hollow carbon spheres (HCS) are spherical forms of carbon materials that can be used as nanocontainers due to their empty cores. In this work, zinc cations were doped in HCS (Zn@HCS) from an aquatic solution of zinc nitrate salt. Corrosion inhibition of released zinc cations in saline solution on bare mild steel samples was assessed by EIS, polarization, and electrochemical noise measurements. The sample surfaces were characterized through FTIR spectroscopy and grazing incidence XRD analyses after exposure to the test solutions. The results showed improvement in the corrosion resistance in the presence of Zn@HCS in a long immersion period. Zn@HCS were also incorporated in organosilane...
