  7. Abstract:
  8. Wound healing is a complex and regular process. It makes more challenge when the volume of wound exudate becomes uncontrollable. To solve this problem, hydrofiber wound dressings which contain carboxymethyl cellulose fibers are being used. Fast absorption and keeping the moisture in balance specially in chronic wounds, is one of the major features of hydrofiber wound dressings. In this research, which was conducted with the aim of investigating the synergy effect of active glasses and Hydrofiber commercial wound dressing for the healing of skin wounds, especially chronic wounds, the sol-gel method has been used to synthesize bioactive glasses based on borosilicate, replacing a part of CaO with different percentages of ZNO in the composition of glasses to obtain antibacterial properties and then embedding bioactive glass nanoparticles in the structure of hydrofiber wound dressings (pre-purchased) by soaking method. XRD, FTIR, SEM and EDAX characterization tests have shown successful synthesis of bioactive glass samples and optimal structural properties in them. Antimicrobial test on hydrofiber wound dressings loaded with bioactive glasses containing zinc, has shown excellent behavior against S.aureus bacteria. Furthermore, increasing the inhibition zone due to increasing the amount of zinc has been shown. Calculation of the amount of zinc ion release was done by ICP analysis and the results showed that the total amount of zinc ion released from the sample containing 5% zinc was more than other samples. Since increasing the amount of zinc from 3% to 5%, has not made significant effect on bactericidal properties, and the sample containing 3% zinc showed better controlled release, so the HF-ZBG3 hydrofiber wound dressings has been selected as the optimum sample in this research
