  7. Abstract:
  8. External radiotherapy is a major method of treating cancer. In this method, penetrating rays such as X-rays, alpha, beta and gamma emitted from the device are used to treat cancer. In order to emitting rays only to the cancer cells, masks are used to stabilize the patient's body in the right position during the radiotherapy, so that the rays are not emitted to the healthy tissues of the patient's body. In this dissertation, first, different methods of making radiotherapy masks are examined. Next, polycaprolactone is proposed as the main material for making the mask. Due to its low tensile strength, this material alone is not suitable for the intended use. Therefore, the material was cured with different percentages of benzoyl peroxide to increase tensile strength by crosslinking of the polymer. By performing various tests such as gel content and tensile strength tests on the samples cured by this method and comparing them with a sample of radiotherapy mask made by the Radon Turkish company, which is a common mask in the radiotherapy process and has a high quality, it was observed that the amount of tensile strength at the breaking point was 10 MPa for both the cured polycaprolactone sample with 0.3% by weight of benzoyl peroxide and radon mask sample, also the gel content of both samples was about 80%. In the following studies, curing polycaprolactone with 0.3% by weight of benzoyl peroxide has been proposed as the method for making radiation therapy masks
