  7. Abstract:
  8. Solar distillation is a comparatively easy treatment of brackish (i.e. contain dissolved salts) water supplies. Distillation is a well-known process, which may be used for water filtration utilizing heating sources. In this research, the solar distillation set with heat-pipes was made and tested in 18 months. At the first step, during four days, the pipes were filled with some water to certain height every day while temperature and produced water were estimated. At the second step, the vacuum pipes were filled with some oil and tested for 4 different heights within 4 days; and in final steps, aluminum chips, washing wire and metal foam were shaded into the tank then tested by an optimum water volume.Generally, performance of solar distillation with vacuum pipes depends on water depth directly. According to experimental results, the best depth for solar distillation is when the pipes are full of water. Although in all depth of water, the ratio of reached heat energy to water mass is constant but in condition that ¼ and ½ of pipe is empty, some of produced water is condensed before reaching to the aluminum pipes. So, production rate decreases. According to the results, higher production rate happens when the pipe is filled with water. Effect of pipe angle on the production rate of distillation is investigated. As experimental results show for angles 25, 35, 45, by increasing angle from 25 to 35, the increase in the production rate is considerable but in angles more than 45, it will decrease. So pipe angle has an optimum value. In this study, angle 35 is the optimum value. Pipe angle has two effects on performance of distillation. 1- Increasing pipe angle in regard to horizontal, the vapor reaches to tank easily. 2- To obtain the most absorption of heat energy, the sun must be vertical to the surface. The best condition in this experiment was 35
