  7. Abstract:
  8. Optimizing and improving the design of wells will have significant impact on any recovery method. As for horizontal wells, despite the fact that horizontal wells improve reservoir access, they suffer from significant pressure loss as well as limited flow control locations and flow control and management. In addition, reservoir quality varies along the length of the well and in the reservoir. This will add further complexity and challenge in well control and production optimization. The design of completions plays a significant role in improving the productivity of a well as well as the life of the reservoir. Intelligent or smart completions can be used to monitor, evaluate and manage the injection and production into and from wells. Implementation of such devices will decrease the down time and increase the ultimate recovery from a reservoir. This study is focused on reviewing different inflow control devices such as ICD, ICV, FCD and etc. In addition, flow dynamics through such devices will be modeled. The model will include the modeling of inflow/outflow fluid flow from the reservoir to the surface through an inflow control device. The results of this study not only will improve our knowledge of the intelligent completion but also can be used to better design the inflow/outflow devices in a horizontal well
