  7. Abstract:
  8. The alloy steel plant was exploited in1999; and the maintenance department starts its function and its activities according to the written PM software by Austria’s BOHLER Company. The PM program was written for the entire factory. Having worked with the PM for eight years, now it is possible to evaluate its performance. There are two main problems in the maintenance system; firstly, the existing PM System is incomplete, some important feature of the PM program is incomplete. Secondly there are lacks of a good auditing system to evaluate the PM orders. To evaluate the weakness of the current PM system and to study application of TPM, a section of the factory was selected as a pilot. The selected pilot was Ingot Grinding machine. It is the most important equipment of steel making plant unit. This machine plays a key role in steel making production output and always is a bottleneck machine in steel making unit. As mentioned earlier, the time was short to control all the maintenance information. This information are audited and used to calculate the required performances criteria of equipments. Having a team survey, came to conclusion to overhaul the ingot grinding machine. The main difficulty in the overhaul period was the lack of spare parts. Finally, 90 percent of defected parts were replaced. After the overhaul of the ingot grinding machine, the performance of the machine was increased highly. Such as reduction in the fluctuations of downtimes as well as an increase in the Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) value. These changes show that we can reach to a high level of OEE and quality by implementing TPM. The best suggestion for alloy steel plant is to try implementing and upgrading TPM gradually.
