  7. Abstract:
  8. The reliability of power converters in various applications, including industrial, military, aerospace, and commercial applications, is of great importance. For this reason, the development of fault-tolerant power converters is crucial from the perspective of system availability and the prevention of adverse consequences. Tolerating various types of faults, maintaining full output capacity after a fault, and cost-effectiveness are the primary challenges for many existing solutions. In this thesis, a fault tolerance solution is presented for a five-level active-neutral-point-clamped converter. The proposed approach enhances fault-tolerant control for the older version of this converter by adding a limited number of inexpensive components. These improvements are implemented with the help of a new control scheme. In the proposed scheme, space vector modulation is used, and by measuring the DC-link voltage and the output voltage and current of the three-phase system, additional switching states are achieved. This allows the converter to continue operating after a fault while reducing the number of output voltage levels. Simulation results conducted on a high-power version of the design demonstrate that the proposed method for the converter can achieve fault tolerance and control performance under open-circuit fault conditions. Moreover, it can maintain its nominal voltage and current even after a fault occurs. Simulation results and practical implementation on a low-power prototype confirm the effectiveness, speed, and efficiency of this proposed fault-tolerant solution in managing and controlling faults
