  7. Abstract:
  8. This thesis presents a resonant time-periodic structure based on the Fabry-Perot resonator for frequency comb generation. Time-periodic structures cannot generate a frequency comb by themselves because side-harmonic amplitudes are really weak. However, due to resonant structure, it is expected that the side-harmonics, which are generated because of the time-periodic part of the structure, are increased if they are close to the main modes of the structure. But the results show that, generally, the amplitude of side harmonics, which are close to the main mode, is increased and far side-harmonics don't have remarkable amplitudes. However, we will show that if the modulation frequency of the structure and the free spectral range (FSR) of static modes are matched, even the far side-harmonic amplitudes are increased and the proposed structure can be used as a frequency comb in this case. Especially, in the extreme case, all of the harmonics have equal amplitudes. For analysis of this structure, wave equation is used and the null space of the problem is defined. But there will be critical numerical errors if the null space dimension is more than one. So, we analyze the structure using Temporal Coupled-Mode theory (TCMT). In the TCMT method, there is no need to define the null space consequently, there won't be a problem for finding the null space. It will be shown that the results of wave equation and TCMT are matched, properly. So, TCMT results verify the results of wave equation. Finally, generated frequency comb will be investigated in different aspects.
