  7. Abstract:
  8. During the production of crude oil from reservoirs, the production of quantities of formation water along with this oil, causes the crude oil does not have the necessary indicators for transportation, refining and ultimately export. The presence of water and salt along with crude oil causes corrosion of refinery and transmission equipment and makes oil unfavorable in terms of economic efficiency (both for domestic use and for export). water and salt produce stable emulsion with oil that can be stable for a long time and can not be easily separated from crude oil. Therefore, separation of water and salt from crude oil is one of the most important issues in the oil industry. Breaking this emulsion is inevitable to separate these components from the crude oil. Various methods are used for this purpose, including mechanical, thermal, electrical and chemical methods. Among these, the chemical method is one of the most widely used and cost-effective methods. In this method, a demulsifier is used to separate the excess water-oil emulsion. These materials cause water droplets to stick together and scatter, eventually separating the water phase from the oil. Different parameters affect the separation of water-oil emulsion, such as the characteristics of crude oil, type and concentration of demulsifier, temperature, settling time, amount of salt in water, percentage of asphaltene in crude oil and etc. The composition of the oil influences the choice of demulsifier, it is important to consider asphaltene as a complex part of crude oil. This component causes major problems in the extraction and refining of crude oil. The formation of asphaltene deposits during production and natural and synthetic hydrocarbon processes is recognized as a fundamental problem worldwide. Asphaltene deposition has been observed from oil reservoirs to process systems. Due to the tendency of the oil industry to drill deeper reservoirs with higher asphaltene content, as well as the increasing use of oil extraction methods to produce more, the role of asphaltene and it’s deopsition problems has become very important and significant. In this study, the general purpose of investigating the effect of asphaltene on the stability of water-oil emulsion, the effect of chemical demulsifiers and different conditions and parameters to optimize the separation of water-oil emulsion. The final purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of temperature, pH, percentage of water in the emulsion, demulsifier concentration and type of demulsifier used to separate water-oil-asphaltene emulsions and optimize the concentration of demulsifiers in different operating conditions to achieve maximum separation. To achieve these goals, a stable emulsion with different percentages of water formation is formed in the laboratory and bottle test used as a standard method to determine the optimal concentration of the demulsifier and the maximum separation. To determine the optimal amount and maximum separation, design of experiments has been used and modeling in Design Expert software using CCD method, the final model for emulsion separation according to each of the parameters is presented. For example, West Karun oil at 75 ppm concentration with C Demulsifier, 75% separation occurred. In the sample of Jafir oil at a concentration of 50 ppm from the demolsifier C, 86% separation was observed and for the sample of Bangestan oil at a concentration of 75 ppm from the demulsifier C, 100% separation was observed. Overall, among the 4 demolsifier models, the C demulsifier showed the best performance
