  7. Abstract:
  8. Additional to Temperature, Pressure and Compositional changes of crude oils, Electro-kinetics and Electrical potential effects are also known as the most influencing parameters on Asphaltene deposition during oil production and processing.Mechanisms of electro-kinetics and asphaltene charge generation are very complex and unclear. In the previous studies on asphaltene precipitation and deposition, mostly electro-kinetics effects are ignored. While, recent studies show the great effects of electrical filed on asphaltene deposition during production and processing phase of crude oils.At reservoir porous medium and crude flow line, an electrical field can be developed along the length of the flow conduit as a natural phenomenon and in the form of streaming potential caused by the motion of charged colloidal particles contained in crude. In this study, laboratory investigation of asphaltene electro-deposition is done. Also, the effects of different parameters on asphaltene particles electro- deposition are investigated. At the first part of the study, macroscopic investigation of the effects of ultrasonic waves, temperature, electric field strength and n-alkane concentration on electro-deposition is done. Moreover, using DC conductivity measurements, asphaltene charge generation mechanism was studied. In the microscopic part of the study, effects of some parameters such as asphaltene molecular structure and properties, electric filed strength, voltage time and asphaltene concentration on the electro-kinetic aggregation behaviour of asphaltene is studied. Intentional and purposeful asphaltene deposition using electrical filed at the defined point of the flow line, well path and even refinery feeding line is very useful in prevention ofadverse consequences of asphaltene deposition at other undesired points of the flow line. In this study, regarding to experiments done on the asphaltene electro-kinetics, additional to asphaltene electrical behavior, feasibility of purposeful asphaltene electro-deposition at the field scale is also surveyed
