  7. Abstract:
  8. In this project, cellulose acetate butyrate (CAB) nanofibrous membranes in order to separate the contaminants of an industrial wastewater were prepared. Electrospinning process that is an effective method to fabricate nanofibers was used to prepare the membranes. Since various parameters affect this process and fibers morphology, optimization of these parameters is necessary for preparation of improved membranes. So the effect of parameters of solvent system, polymer concentration, applied voltage, distance between the tip of needle and collector, and rotational speed of collector on morphology and diameter of the nanofibers was investigated. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and image analysis were used in order to study morphology and average diameter of the nanofibers. The membranes permeability was evaluated by measuring their pure water flux. In order to investigate performance of the prepared membranes in industrial wastewater treatment, the values of flux and rejection of COD, TDS and turbidity were determined.
The results were shown that average diameter of the fibers and mean pore size of the membranes were decreased by decreasing the polymer concentration, and increasing the applied voltage, distance between the tip of needle and collector, and rotational speed of collector. Therefore, under these conditions the membranes permeability decreased and rejection of the pollution indices increased. The noticeable point with respect to the results is achievement of separation in range of ultrafiltration membrane separation while the membrane permeability is in range of microfiltration membrane permeability
