C-MAN: a Novel Manufacturing Platform Based on Cloud Manufacturing Paradigm

  8. The synergy of fundamental factors like changes in governmental policies, global expansions of the manufacturing industries and improvements in technology related to reliability of manufacturing information flow have created the global manufacturing revolution in the first years of the twenty-first century. The concept of global manufacturing enterprise potentially brings up benefits and opportunities for today’s manufacturing enterprises like reduction of manufacturing costs by utilizing low labor-cost countries, reduction of business risks and introduction of new markets as a new source for enterprise growth. However, it enforces enterprise to endure costs to adopt the global manufacturing solutions. In this thesis, the essential aspects and requirements of a global manufacturing approach is studied and defined. These essential requirements are: integration of manufacturing operations over the globe, support of manufacturing networks in distributed manufacturing enterprises, collaboration support in global manufacturing networks and enabling the adopt ion of optimal solutions in global manufacturing enterprises, the thesis reviewed the dominant researches in the global manufacturing approaches. Considering the new paradigm for global manufacturing called cloud manufacturing which enables a major transformation in manufacturing industry, the author proposed a new manufacturing platform called C-MAN for today’s global manufacturing. The architecture of C-MAN is designed to fulfil the essential requirements of today’s global manufacturing paradigm using a service-oriented structure. Considering the huge amount of different manufacturing requests which should be fulfilled by the C-MAN a structured solution for definition, execution and management of the services is essential. This solution is proposed in C-MAN based on the axiomatic design theory. This solution insures a feasible structure of service execution to fulfill the manufacturing agents’ request. The capabilities of the developed C-MAN platform are discussed in different case study scenarios. For further researches, the thesis proposes different manufacturing services in the C-MAN for different manufacturing operations. Also, optimization of C-MAN platform using the second axiom of axiomatic design theory is recommended. Finally, the thesis encourages the researches to expand the area of ISO based integration for manufacturing data coverage and also to use the C-MAN platform to propose solutions for new manufacturing strategies like Mass Customization
