    Abstract
Pulsating heat pipe (PHP) is a type of wickless heat pipe that has a simple structure and an outstanding thermal performance. Nanofluid is a type of fluid in which nanoparticles are dispersed in a base fluid and have generally a better thermal conductivity in comparison with its base fluid. In this article, the performance of a nanofluid PHP is investigated. Graphene/water nanofluid with a concentration of 1 mg mL−1 and TiO2 (titania)/water nanofluid with a concentration of 10 mg mL−1 are used as the working fluids. To simultaneously investigate the thermal performance and flow regimes in the PHP, a one-turn copper PHP with a Pyrex glass attached to its adiabatic section is used. A one-turn...

    Abstract
This paper simulates Al2O3-water nanofluid flow and forced convection around a rotating circular cylinder. The governing parameters are Reynolds number (1 ≤ Re ≤ 100), solid volume fraction of nanoparticles (0 ≤ φ ≤ 0.05) and non-dimensional rotation rate (0 ≤ α ≤ 3). The simulations are performed to study the effects of mentioned parameters on the heat transfer rate and fluid flow characteristics. The governing equations including the continuity, momentum, and energy equations are solved with a finite volume method. It is observed that the reduction of heat transfer with increase in rotation rate is in the vicinity of 6.9% and 32% for Re = 5 and 100, respectively at φ = 0.05. Furthermore,...

    Abstract
In this paper, an experimental evaluation on the viscosity of water-based manganese ferrite nanofluid with and without magnetic field with 100, 200, 300, and 400 G intensities has been conducted. The Brookfield DV-I PRIME viscometer is implemented to measure the MnFe2O4/water nanofluid viscosity and to evaluate the influence of different volume concentrations (from 0.25% to 3%) and various temperatures (from 20 to 60 °C) on the viscosity. According to the measurements, viscosity incrementally increases with the augmentation of nanoparticles concentration while it remarkably decreases at higher temperatures under absence and attendance of magnetic field. The maximum viscosity ratio of 1.14 is...

    Abstract
Natural convection heat transfer in a concentric horizontal annulus with annular fins is numerically studied. Due to the low thermal conductivity of water, CuO-water and Al2O3-water nanofluids were used as heat transfer fluids. The effect of three different parameters, including fin spacing, fin eccentricity, and fin thickness at different fin diameters and Rayleigh number range of 104 to 9 (Formula presented.) 105, were studied. The obtained results revealed that Al2O3-water nanofluid has the highest heat transfer rate. The calculated heat transfer rates for Al2O3-water nanofluid for Rayleigh numbers of 9 (Formula presented.) 105, 105, and 104 were respectively up to 12.1%, 26.2%, and 31.6%...

Simultaneous energy storage enhancement and pressure drop reduction in flat plate solar collectors using rotary pipes with nanofluid

    , Article Energy and Buildings ; Volume 239 , 2021 ; 03787788 (ISSN) Bezaatpour, M ; Rostamzadeh, H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Flat plate solar collectors waste a massive part of the heat accumulated near the contact region, mainly due to poor thermal characteristics of working fluid. The demanding power for pumping the flow through the pipes seems a permanent concern in solar collectors. Also, active methods seem not to be applicable in such systems due to the external energy requirement and cost associated with it. An innovative and simple technique is considered here to eliminate such deficiencies all at once by equipping the flat plate collector with rotary absorber pipes and Fe3O4/water nanofluid. Results indicate that the applied method improves the convection mechanism in each pipe by mixing the accumulated...

    Abstract
Various methods are devised to capture renewable energy or waste heat from different sectors, where among all, waste heat capturing from the generator of a wind turbine through the cooling process for freshwater and cooling production is paid less attention in Iran, in spite of the fact that many wind farms in Iran are in hot and humid regions and the residents nearby the farms desperately need freshwater and cooling load. To surmount this problem, waste heat extraction from a wind turbine (Enercon 70 Model) for freshwater and cooling production is proposed in this study. Instead of dissipating this thermal energy of the wind turbine into the environment, it can be used for freshwater and...

    Abstract
The problem of cooling two hot blocks in a novel geometry using magnetohydrodynamic flow of Al2O3–water nanofluid has been studied utilizing a D2Q9 Lattice Boltzmann Model. While the Hartmann number (Ha) takes 0, 50, or 100 values, the Richardson number (Ri) varies between 0.02 and 20. Four variations of the geometry are selected. The gravity angle is set to be either (Formula presented.), (Formula presented.), or (Formula presented.). Results reveal that the Nusselt number (Nu) increases as Ri increases for all cases. Furthermore, the Hartmann number has a deteriorating effect on the Nusselt number except for low Ri numbers. In addition, the results indicate that while the geometrical...

Analysis of entropy generation and convective heat transfer of Al 2O 3 nanofluid flow in a tangential micro heat sink

    Abstract
Effect of using Al 2O 3-water nanofluids with different volume fractions and particle diameters on generated entropy, hydrodynamic performance and heat transfer characteristics of a tangential micro-heat sink (TMHS) was numerically investigated in this research. Results indicated that considerable heat transfer enhancement is possible when using Al 2O 3-water nanofluids as coolant and clearly the enhancement improves with increasing particles concentration and decreasing particles size. However, using nanofluid has also induced drastic effects on the pumping power that increases with particles volume fraction and Reynolds number. Finally, it was found that generated total entropy decreases...

    Abstract
This work focuses on numerical validation of natural convection heat transfer of TiO2-water nanofluids in a cylindrical container using COMSOL. The main aim of this study is to examine different available approaches to calculate effective thermal conductivity and compare them with experimental data available in the literature. Simulation results show that for considered mixture, average Nusselt number decreases by increasing Rayleigh number and particle volume fraction. It has been found that only one model was able to represent similar trends for given particle volume fractions, compared to experimental results

    Abstract
Numerical analysis of the nanofluid flow characteristics of perforated conical rings in a heat exchanger tube has been investigated under constant wall temperature condition. The pitch ratio of the perforated conical rings is 4 and the number of holes is varied from 0 (typical conical ring) to 10. The flow regime is fully turbulent with the Reynolds number is varied from 5000 to 14,000 and Cu-water nanofluid 0<ϕ<1.5% is selected as the working fluid. The main novelty of this paper is to perform a 3D simulation of this problem because some previous studies using similar geometry were restricted to experimental analysis. The Reynolds averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) equations are solved with the...
